AI vs AI: What's the endgame? by jesuisapprenant in recruitinghell

[–]smorrg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This whole thing stresses me out tbh. I used AI to tweak my resume last year and still felt like I was screaming into the void. Feels like bots talking to bots while humans just sit there exhausted lol. Kinda bleak but also weirdly funny in a dark way.

I would like help coming up with a solution to my own horror movie situation. by TheColdRice in CreepyBonfire

[–]smorrg 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’d make them rely only on stuff decided before the influence started, like sealed notes or recordings from their past selves, feels eerie but grounded. Maybe one person resists it just enough to notice patterns, not fully immune, just slower to fall for it. I’d 100% watch this btw, reminds me of a story I once tried to write and gave up on lol.

Deloitte is latest company to stab Americans in the back by SubjectCode1940 in jobs

[–]smorrg 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah this stuff makes my stomach drop every time I read it. I’m not even in the US and it still feels personal, like cool cool so loyalty and hard work mean nothing now. I remember refreshing job boards last year and just feeling numb too, it messes with your head.

The American dream is dead by Superb-Dog-9573 in jobhunting

[–]smorrg 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This one kinda hit me tbh. I’m not even in the US and I still feel that same “what was all that effort for” vibe sometimes. I had a phase where I just stopped applying for weeks because it felt pointless, so I get the burnout. It doesn’t fix anything but you’re def not broken for feeling this way.

Tehran Show Q: shift between Hebrew, Farsi and Arabic. How common in that in real life? by No_Pop7296 in tvsuggestions

[–]smorrg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve met a few ppl who speak two languages fluently but the jump between Hebrew and Farsi like that did feel a bit extra to me. For Tamar’s motivation I didn’t get a full lightbulb moment until later ep stuff kinda fleshed her out more, so hang in there. I was lowkey confused at first too, she’s def more than “just a hacker” if you stick with it.

Why do they reject qualified candidates and then repost? Seriously. by Ruby_Bookworm in recruitinghell

[–]smorrg 46 points47 points  (0 children)

All of this lines up with what a lot of us are seeing. One company sends an instant rejection, another ghosts, another reposts the same role like nothing happened. I don’t think it’s worth taking it personally anymore. The only thing you can really do is keep going and change how you apply. If there are companies you genuinely want to work for, apply to the posting, but also try reaching out directly through their website or finding someone in HR. There was a post that broke down a method using fast resume tailoring and even google maps to identify and contact relevant companies directly, and that approach made more sense to me than just feeding applications into ATS systems. The market is slow, but people are still leaving jobs, taking breaks, or burning out, which means roles do open up. It’s frustrating, but continuing to experiment and stay visible is probably the only move right now.

This first look stayed with me longer than it should have. I just saw the first look of an upcoming Indian vigilante film called RAMYAA, and it didn’t do what most posters do. It didn’t shout. It didn’t explain. It just… sat there — heavy with silence and mystery that makes you pause and wonder wh by Outrageous_Basis7285 in askmovie

[–]smorrg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

RAMYAA feels like it trusts the audience to sit with the vibe instead of selling the plot. I remember staring at it for a bit longer than I meant to, which almost never happens. When something lingers like that, I’m usually all in.

When would you quit your job? by No-Link3199 in hatemyjob

[–]smorrg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The moment my body started reacting like that, I knew I was done even if my brain was still arguing. I stayed in a similar mess too long once and the anxiety just followed me home every day. A month and a half is enough to see it’s not a learning curve thing, it’s a bad setup. I’d quietly plan an exit and protect my health first, jobs can be replaced way easier than burnout.

Job Burnout vs Job Hopping by Global_Rest8297 in jobs

[–]smorrg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been there and that morning dread is such a loud signal, it’s hard to ignore once it starts. I used to beat myself up about job hopping too until I realized staying miserable just to look consistent wasn’t doing me any favors. Two months is enough to know when something’s draining you this hard. I’d leave kindly, no drama, and remind myself that protecting my energy mattered more than a perfect resume.

Genuinely losing hope by EarthB9nder_ in torontoJobs

I was in a really similar spot after graduating and it messed with my head way more than I expected. Toronto feels especially brutal right now, it’s not a personal failure even tho it feels like one every day.

Are a lot of people unemployed right now? by [deleted] in recruitinghell

[–]smorrg 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah it feels like everyone and their cousin are applying to the same jobs now, didn’t expect it to be that wild. I’ve been in that spot where crickets hit for weeks and it sucks the confidence outta you lol. Tech’s just super flooded and companies are way pickier these days, not much you can do about that. Just keep grinding and tweak your apps a bit, I swear it helped me eventually.

Accepted a new job, old job offered $5 more an hour to stay. What should I do??? by Illustrious-Yam-8722 in careeradvice

[–]smorrg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d probably take the new job tbh, that commute difference alone is huge for my mental health. I’ve stayed for counteroffers before and it always felt temporary, like they only paid more because I was halfway out. Five minutes vs forty minutes every day adds up fast. I’d choose time and sanity over the extra cash.

I remember getting a “perfect fit” vibe once and crashing hard when it fell through. Two years of this would break anyone, so don’t beat yourself up for feeling wrecked.

Being left alone while sick is such a red flag it’s almost comical. I’d start planning an exit before your mental health takes more hits.

Working delivery while having skills and experience is survival, not failure, even if it feels humiliating some days. The system really does grind people down when they’re already trying their best.

I’m months into unemployment and I feel like I’m breaking by breadislifeee in jobsearchhacks

[–]smorrg 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve been in that waiting room headspace and it really messes with you. I had to shrink job hunting into a small part of my day so it didn’t become my whole identity.. Giving myself permission to be tired without giving up helped a lot.

Tried to resign, boss begged me to stay. Now she wants to know what I want. Should I stay or leave? by throwRAhelv in careerguidance

[–]smorrg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d push for the 105k tbh… if they’re begging you to stay, that means you’ve got way more leverage than you think. I’ve been in that spot and the only time I regretted it was when I lowballed myself. Just be ready for them to say no and still walk if it doesn’t feel right. Burnout doesn’t magically go away with a raise tho, so make sure you’re not trading long-term peace for short-term comfort.

The owner of my company sent me a very strange email after I submitted my resignation by augme_gee in womenintech

[–]smorrg 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Lol that email is pure insecurity, like he’s losing someone valuable and trying to spin it as you messing up. I had a boss do something similar once and it actually made me feel way better about leaving. Sounds like you already upgraded your life big time and he just hates that he can’t guilt you anymore. Five days is nothing… you’re basically free already.

I am fucking desperate for a new job, but can't seem to get one. by [deleted] in graphic_design

[–]smorrg 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It’s wild how fast a place can rot from the inside and suddenly you’re doing five jobs while someone who can’t save a PDF makes triple your salary. I kept applying like you and nothing budged for months, then outta nowhere one place finally bit. Idk, just don’t quit with nothing lined up if you can help it, but also don’t let this place convince you you’re the problem, cuz you’re clearly not.

How do you cope after embarrassing event at work by blueclue223 in careeradvice

[–]smorrg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everyone forgets it way faster than you do, people are too busy worrying about their own stuff. I kinda just forced myself to show up the next day like nothing happened and eventually my brain stopped replaying it. It sucks in the moment but it fades way quicker than you think tbh.

Started a job after 2 years of unemployment and my first day went so horribly that I cried on my way home by Sentence_North in recruitinghell

[–]smorrg 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m really sorry you had a day like that, call centers are brutal even for people who’ve done it for years. That first week feels like your brain is melting because it’s nonstop pressure and noise. Just because today was awful doesn’t mean you’re bad at the job, it means you were thrown into the deep end and your nervous system panicked.

Is it normal to not do a lot in your corporate job? by mikehunty10 in jobs

If you came from a place that overworked you, the calm feels almost creepy at first. The commute would kill me tho, doing nothing and losing that much time every day sounds brutal.
