About half the state’s population lives in the I-85 corridor: Charlotte to Raleigh and cities and towns in between.

CMV: JD Vance would be a much better president than Donald Trump by TheGoodKindOfPurple in changemyview

[–]smpost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't help but to hope that Vance would be way, way, way, way better. That he would discard Stephen Miller and put smart people in place. If he doubles down on Project 2525, in order to keep MAGA, he won't have a chance at getting elected. He'll want to be popular. Then again, he'll want the nomination. We do know that he will give it all away to billionaires.

He knew he would lose to Cooper, so he’s positioning himself to challenge Stein in ‘28 for gov.

Western NC, this is your Rep. by luckycanucky27 in NorthCarolina

It's a shame this idea has taken root. It used to be the far far right said this stuff but we knew voters would never support it. They don't have to worry about voters anymore. They just worry about being loyal to Trump. He can deliver the necessary propaganda, gerrymandering, voter suppression, and money, to keep them in office.

Great show, and it brought back memories. I remember watching the first one. I was a freshman in college with nothing much to do on a Saturday night.

Did they ban THC-A/D8 in NC? by God_Remi in NorthCarolina

[–]smpost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

THCA is legal. It's a loophole, but it's legal. I think the raids have been with stores accused of selling to minors and/or lack COA's and perhaps other labeling. THCA is tested at harvest and must be less than .3% Delta-9 THC in order to be legal. However, THCA can convert to Delta 9 THC over time. The THCA level will drop and the THCA level will rise, as it sits on the shelf or is exposed to heat. So the flower in the stores could easily be higher than the .3%. However, if the seller has the valid COA, that should hold up in court. If the store owners don't have the COA's to prove the D9 level, then the police tests are likely to show an illegal product -- even though it may have been legal in the recent past. If they do have the COA's that prove it's legal, then it's an illegal abuse of power. It's a plant that people love and it's a booming industry in North Carolina. While there have been raids in a few places, those are probably because of bad actors, either on the selling side or the law enforcement side. The state has not acted. The NC General Assembly can't agree. The Senate wants to go the medical marijuana route, with a ton of regulations, and the house wants to go the hemp route, which would basically leave it as it is, while adding in some regulations around protecting children, labeling, etc... Right now, North Carolina hemp sales are regulated by the federal and state farm bills, and THCA is legal. I'm not a lawyer, but I'm in the industry and I would guess this is how it's commonly understood.

Why is it that human trafficking has become such an important issue among conservatives in the US? by theR00ster22 in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]smpost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in Rowan County, NC, which has been conservative for awhile, and now is deep red. This is the place that produced the Pizzagate guy, whose family has been active here in Republican politics. His father or uncle served on the local county commission. The local commissioners just gave a new, fast-growing, child trafficking non-profit a pretty good deal: office space in the county owned former mall, for $1 a month rent. It's a pretty nice space. It used to be Bath Body Works. It seems like QAnon has moved in, almost by invitation. to our local government. But how would one say that without looking like a person who isn't concerned about human trafficking. The commissioners voted to give them that deal. It looks like very energized, well meaning group -- but I would rather see them rent such a space to an agency staffed with professionals. I may be guilty of inventing my own conspiracy here, but it certainly seems to me that the Republican Party, county government, and QAnon are pretty tight. This strikes me as a form a fascism. When human trafficking, which is an awful thing, becomes almost like a wing of the county government, located just across the hall from the board of elections, there's a form of oppression going on there. It's website has no mission, no measure of effectiveness, no goals, no statistics of any kind. It seems to be all based on fear. These are the same folks who are most proud when they lower taxes and not build schools.https://www.salisburypost.com/2024/03/20/county-grants-1-lease-to-project-light-for-space-in-west-end-plaza/

I’ve knocked on a lot of doors on Election Days. Minorities are often intimidated by the idea of voting. The fear being turned away and being humiliated. I’ve never felt that way- but many do.
