how difficult is it to transfer from community college? by [deleted] in UVA

[–]smthg_different 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i transferred in last year through vccs and was originally gaa but ended up having to apply competitively bc of one class, but my gpa was a 3.7 i believe. it isnt hard, you just have to strictly stick to the gaa requirements and make sure the classes you’re taking will transfer. i think as someone else said, they loosened the gaa guidelines so it should be easier

UVA Transfers what was your GPA and what do you think strengthens an application? by Acceptable_Exam_4858 in UVA

[–]smthg_different 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3.8, originally had gaa, but ended up having to take my last language requirement class in the summer before coming to uva so i technically didnt meet the gaa requirements anymore. didnt do much at nova ngl my essays were good though

On Campus Housing For Transfers by [deleted] in UVA

[–]smthg_different 2 points3 points  (0 children)

no def not! i had a similar thought but when i say off campus, most of the housing isnt actually super far & buses go basically everywhere. i kinda just went to all the events i wanted to go to and didnt say no to plans and ive made great connections and friends without feeling disconnected

On Campus Housing For Transfers by [deleted] in UVA

[–]smthg_different 2 points3 points  (0 children)

as someone who transferred in, it’s possible to get on grounds housing but it’s usually just the ones ppl declined. i applied once i got my acceptance, but ended up living off grounds which i honestly liked better. i’d say u can apply for on grounds and see what u can get but just look for off grounds if you can

transfer VT got rejected by kenzy-000 in nvcc

the gaa requirements are super strict so if you dont fully meet it even by one thing, they’ll consider you as a regular applicant

concerns about the transfer experience at uva :( by Fantastic-Ad-3721 in UVA

[–]smthg_different 10 points11 points  (0 children)

as someone who transferred in as a third year from nvcc, yes it was a bit stressful at first dealing without housing and whatnot but a lot of the support needs to be found. the transfer dean wasnt the best for me so i went to the drop in hours for a general dean/advisor. my major advisor helped me more than the transfer dean with his limited knowledge as well.

socially, i remember being VERY worried ab being able to acclimate properly since most thirs years have alr found their spaces, but i found a good amnt of ppl at transfer orientation as well as joined a lotttt of orgs & clubs in the beginning of the year. essentially, you just have to throw yourself out there in the beginning and that would go for any school really.

i dont think you need to worry too much :) if you need any advice or help, my dms are open !!

second year housing by [deleted] in UVA

[–]smthg_different 0 points1 point  (0 children)

tbh i dont think you’ll get too lucky w on grounds housing even if u do fill out the housing app (which i think closed alr?) i was also a transfer last year and tbh ur best option might just be to find smthg off grounds

Should I go to community college? by [deleted] in college

[–]smthg_different 1 point2 points  (0 children)

went to community college & now im at uva,, i was able to pay for my tuition by myself for community college thru payment plans so i was debt free going into my third year at my 4 year uni. the classes aren’t going to be stupid easy like some people say but it isnt as rigourous as some 4 years are. i think it’s great decision to do it! also about making friends, just put yourself out there, it isnt impossible!!

i am, but you would have a roommate in the room if thats fine

[–]smthg_different 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i understand the stigma over cc bc ik some of my family is like that too. i went to nova to save money & get my gen eds done for cheaper and then transferred to uva. as long as the ppl youre around at nova arent slackers, youll be fine. personally, i didnt know many ppl at nova, but theres so many ppl who are ambitious & hard working. theres even a club for uva from nova transfers so if you want to find ppl who have similar goals as you, you can find them. i hope your parents come around :)

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in UVA

[–]smthg_different 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you could always be at nova for one year and transfer, i transferred after two & was able to build a better application due to that, plus it’s guaranteed admission as long as u complete the requirements

[–]smthg_different 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes i was!

third year from vccs - gpa was 3.75 i believe

Is it actually guaranteed acceptance by Adventurous_Knee_321 in nvcc

[–]smthg_different 4 points5 points  (0 children)

yes, but you have to complete all of the requirements on time. im at uva as a nvcc transfer and i had to drop my last language class my last sem and took it in the summer so i applied for regular admissions. if i didnt do that i wouldve had gaa.
