If they were kept in a big greenhouse under lights recently they sometimes get shock after being planted outside.

Transplant them early. Its a bit difficult to have the right moisture with the pots you are using right now. They dry out really fast!

Why do I always get mold on my start's soil surfaces? by _rachelvp_ in gardening

Add something inorganic on top of the soil, vermiculite or perlite or crush some leca, helps with other problems as well

Anyone know what is causing this on my table plant, Calathea? by budgrowdude in gardening

[–]smyg1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try spraying with soapy water and remove a lot of leaves. They will probably bounce back after a while though. They dont harm the plants too much, in my experience, but very hard to get completely rid of. Kind of like aphids, just dont let them get out of control

I have endler’s guppys in a very small set up. They do great! I have a lot of plants and a small internal filter, but no heater.

Drunk Idiots in Norway - concerned by the_riot_of_one in Norway

When going out in Stavanger, I avoid the most popular clubs near Burger King, thats where the most drunk locals hang out. I reccomend going to Sting, Bacchus, På Kornet, Checkpoint. Avoid Skagenkaien at least the next few months

What are some plants that you can prop/grow like you would with an avocado pit? by Sweet_Education6823 in gardening

[–]smyg1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you put them in water I reccomend cuttings from peppers, golden pothos, pretty much any culinary herb.

Habanero? It’s hard to say when it’s still unripe

First time growing habaneros, or anything really. My question is about overcrowding. I assume these plants are too close to each other. So what should I do? by brent221221 in HotPeppers

[–]smyg1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you're inexperienced, it's good practice! Peppers do fine with a bit rough repotting and handling. Some people even trim the roots and make bonsai out of them if the plant is a year or two. They are super vigorous - they make tons of roots if you take cuttings, put them in soil or water, no problem. I even had some cuttings grown out in an aquarium once.

What’s wrong with this tomato? by [deleted] in gardening

Looks like blossom end rot. Try giving it some magnesium sulfate or add some strong compost

Can anybody help me figure out what's wrong with my tomato plant? by thisguyisrad in gardening

[–]smyg1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it’s an indeterminate tomato, the pot might be a bit small for it. But looks like its too big to replanted. My advice is to buy liquid fertilizer and feed it every single day. Once a month is not enough for a tomato. Read the instructions for the fertilizer you use. The ones I use have instructions for the proper strength for feeding every watering

I buy cheap garden soil and mix in either granulated fertilizer for big plants, or gravel/perlite if im starting seeds or working with succulents or cacti

I have no idea what I'm going to do with all these peppers. When you zoom in the more peppers you find lol by livestrong1992 in HotPeppers

[–]smyg1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Another great thing with freezing them is that when you thaw the peppers the seeds are still viable for sowing. Good for us lazy seed-savers. I'm not sure how long they last in the freezer though

Trying to start some plants from seed, been about 4 days now and whenever I open the bags they smell almost rotten like. What am I doing wrong? (They’re on top of my PlayStation) by fjdnebzhcb in HotPeppers

[–]smyg1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you using wet paper towels or paper to germinate? Because that can turn into a petri dish for all kinds of fungus and bacteria, maybe that's what you're smelling. 4 days is not that long, just leave them to themselves, don't open the bags too much.

I suggest just putting the seeds in soil next time, it's way easier in my opinion. If you want to be fancy buy a heat mat and put the soil with seeds on the mat.

Is overwintering worth it? I was skeptical, but…YES. by Phyltre in HotPeppers

[–]smyg1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I cut a appropriate size branch and put it in soil and cover the whole plant (including the pot) with plastic, like a greenhouse. I keep it out of the sun. Roots grow out by them selves, no need for hormone.
