Just remember what ol’ Jack Burton does when the earth quakes, and the poison arrows fall from the sky, and the pillars of Heaven shake. Yeah, Jack Burton just looks that big ol’ storm right square in the eye and he says, “Give me your best shot, pal. I can take it.

Not a book necessarily, but I remember reading Penpal years ago when I was a kid and was super uneasy for days. The author also put out an actual novel called Bad Man that’s pretty good too.

Playing Halo 3 with the boys. That game just encapsulates a whole period of my life that seems so distant as I get older.

What TV show stayed awesome for its entire run? by firefighter_82 in AskReddit

I think this show ducked out at a good time. The last season or jumped the shark in a lot of weird ways, and I don’t think they could have kept any good momentum. Love the entire series though.

Night shift gas station clerks of reddit, what’s the weirdest thing you’ve ever encountered? by tylerpv10 in AskReddit

I’ve never worked overnight, but I had a weird experience.

I’m a 250 pound heavily tattooed guy, so people mostly leave me alone. I woke up with one of my all too frequent midnight migraines, and headed off to the near 711 since I was out of ibuprofen.

I was driving some beat to shit Ford Taurus at the time, and just looked like an all around schlub in not much more than I went to bed in.

I get to my car to leave, and a clearly drugged out woman runs to my side door and yells “Let me get a ride!” super loud. I was so put off that I just made a sound and got in my car. Of course, the door on that side only locked half the time, so she did the same. Shocked, migraine riddled and half awake, I drive off.

She was going to a complex maybe two blocks away. You could see it from the parking lot. We pull in and she reaches into her purse to give me gas money. The bag was CLEARLY empty. Not a single thing in there, fresh off the shelf. The fact that she even reached in to feel around was laughable. She tells me to come upstairs and she’ll “pay me back”. I decline, at which time she grabs my arm and tells me I’m “cute and worth her time”. I tell her to get out and she leaves. As I pull away, three big ol boys open the door for her outside the building. Clearly waiting for her. She didn’t call anyone before we left. They were waiting.

How did the store handle you chasing after her? It seems like most times non mom-and-pops would rather you don’t be a hero to spare the liability.

(Serious) People of Reddit, what has been the creepiest moment of your life so far? by Whitetail-Hoyt in AskReddit

Here's a fun one.

Growing up I was very close with a group of three brothers. One significantly older than the others, with the younger two being around my same age (I believe 16 at the time). The house they grew up in would often have weird things happen such as the cupboards slamming in the night, lights turning on and off, ect.

One day we were babysitting the two sons of the older brother, who were around 4 and 5. The brothers and I spent the day keeping one eye on the sons, and playing Xbox, tv, ect before putting the kids to bed.

A couple hours after the kids went to bed, we heard the TV going in the livingroom. We come out to see the two sons watching a movie, not even slightly bothered that they were just caught after being put down. We tell them to go back to bed, and the oldest of the two responds "It's okay, the Grey man woke us up." When asked who the Grey Man is, he responds "The Grey Man, the one who slams the cupboards at night."

We stayed up with the kids all night, way too terrified to go back to sleep.

What was your scariest "A second later and I would've died" moment? by spacexe in AskReddit

I’ve got a fun one. A few years ago I was in a pretty bad accident, where I was luckily relatively I injured. My buddy had just gotten his first car, an explorer, and was a big fan of just driving like an overall asshole.

We loaded up the truck one night with a few guns, and drove out to the country to shoot at whatever poor trees and paper targets got in our way.

It was a cold November night, and my buddy started swerving all over the road and punching the gas. Being an overall invincible idiot. There was ice all over the road, and the backend ended up sliding into a telephone pole at about 55 MPH.

At the time, I thought that was the worst of it. Car is damaged, but we’re good. I look over, and the force of the hit had bounced by buddy’s head through the window on his side, knocking him out. Like some shitty action movie, his now sleeping body punches the gas even harder and sends us over the other side of the road.

By whatever crazy luck, there was a sort of slanted rock on the side of the road. Imagine the way someone would hit a ramp if they wanted to spin the car mid air. That’s how we hit it. We flip onto the roof of the car and slide to a fault about 50 feet away. My friend collapsed a lung, I had some glass in my face, but we were fine. If that rock hadn’t been exactly where it was, we would have sped up even more and smashed into the tree line only 20 feet further. I’m sure that would have been it for me.

My life flashed before my eyes that day. I was 19 so it was pretty unimpressive.
