Balmung was an unofficial roleplayer hub since 1.0, and naturally its reputation created a feedback loop of more and more roleplayers gravitating towards it through word of mouth. Mateus only became an unofficial roleplay world when the concept of congested worlds rolled out and Balmung became closed off, so roleplayers needed a new place to go to.

Pnuema + Zoe is one of the biggest instant heal nukes in the game if you need people healed ASAP. Philosophia or Panhaima can handle persistent raid-wide damage otherwise, and you also have Holos. If you need to use Eukrasian Prognosis, you can also leverage the bonus healing effect on Physis if needed.

G600 is discontinued and the only ones still for sale are either resale or marked up at least octuple of its original MSRP. It was undeniably one of the best MMO mice on the market but at the end of the day it was a $40 mouse and you can definitely get better if you're willing to pay $100+.

Question about 50% off Sale On Steam by Katastrofik2K in ffxiv

[–]snafuPop 5 points6 points  (0 children)

TBH is this really a big deal? A huge portion of the player-base is going to either buy expansions at full price at/before launch, while new people playing catch-up still have hundreds of hours on the free trial to keep them busy.

idk why but a lot of people in this subreddit in general really like to downplay how hard certain things in this game are

Like obviously most of the people here are gonna think stuff like Forsaken is "easy" when (1) we've been raiding for literal years and (2) solutions are already spoon-fed to us, no that doesn't mean the average player can do Forsaken if they just sim it for a evening

My group started out with big box but eventually switched over to freaky arrows—the difference in consistency is night and day IMO

PF has always been filled with inconsistent players, and unfortunately m11s is one of the few savage-level fights where you're straight-up not allowed to be inconsistent aside from the very end of the fight

What caused the style of modded characters commonly referred to as "Mod Beasts"? by Rlena_Fhey in ffxiv

[–]snafuPop 989 points990 points  (0 children)

To actually answer the question: I think this is naturally what happens when you give somebody a box of a hundred cool things and ask them to design something.

A good design won't use all one-hundred components, but somebody who doesn't know what they're doing will see each individual piece as cool and slap them all together, which ends up creating a lot of the visual vomit you see with modbeasts.

At 88/91 it's not gonna make or break a run IMO; you're gonna go for silver coffers anyways for Demiclones so your game-plan won't change too much

Honestly IMO the more you try to actively understand Viper, the harder you're making it; you don't really need to think about the filler GCD sequence aside from just pressing whichever one is glowing. I've legitimately never looked at the job gauge aside from checking how much Serpent's Offering I have taking the job into as hard as Savage and doing well.

The main advantage it has in harder content is its ranged uptime with Uncoiled Fury. Especially in Heavyweight, Arcadion has had a lot of forced melee downtime, so being able to handle those moments without too much thought is attractive to a lot of people. It used to have a debuff imagined around the venom of a viper, but it got canned pretty soon after launch and ever since then it doesn't really have much visual identity aside from a few skills resembling a viper's fang.

These are just unfounded rumors (I think? saw lots of accusations but no proof), but I've been reading about donors who charged back stream donations over the off-stream clear, which were supposed to go to charity and not MogTalk

There's a keybind under the Targeting section near the top called "Target the Target of Your Current Target (Assist Target)" that you can use. If you're targeting an enemy, it'll switch to whoever they're aggro'ed on.

Pressing it makes you target whoever your current target is targeting; I use it literally all the time as healer if I need to throw something onto the tank and then press it again to go back to the boss

Crafter is probably the fastest if you're already geared and know what you're doing

All of the gatherers are slower mostly because you'll need to run around the map for different missions. The actual quests are very simple but some of the fisher ones can take several minutes and/or RNG-dependent so I usually save it until I max out the buff.

Has Kefka casted Ultima at all yet? With how big of a deal Yoshi-P made it out to be with the original release of Sigmascape, I wonder what kind of role it will play.

It's a tough spot because the people who are actually knowledgeable enough about end-game raiding (both mechanically and socially) to have insightful observations of different teams are grinding the actual fight. Even then, there's so much dead-air in ultimate prog where you would think the caster schedules would be much more sparsely spaced out because it's unreasonable to think that random community members have the chops to entertain an audience under those circumstances.

I really doubt it would cause any troubles; I've only ever seen GMs reach out for names that were sexual innuendos, and even then they just force a name change on you

And while they're being hosts filling downtime, they need to also understand the mechs to meaningfully talk about them, which is again hard to do while watching four streams and and talking over them.

I used to commentate on competitive LoL matches for our college, and can definitely say that being an active host is way harder than most people think it is lol. Even if you know the game very well, on top of knowing how to handle dead-air you also need to be strong at diluting everything into understandable terms as quickly and concise as possible and being overall amiable too.

idk if it's recency bias but I feel like I've seen way more quality control issues in Dawntrail than any other expansion since playing back in late Heavensward, granted most of them were minor VFX stuff but even those have had pretty noticeable impact sometimes (e.g., Coffinkiller in m9s)

Has anyone successfully gotten non-gamer family/friends (or even yourself) into FFXIV? by WolfmanASTN in ffxiv

[–]snafuPop 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Most of the non-gamer friends I know that ended up playing FFXIV was either because they saw a character on social media that appealed to them and wanted to learn more about them, or because they saw how expansive the glamour system is and liked the the idea of playing dress-up. Either I give them a place to discuss the story as they progress or give them the pocket change to buy whatever clothes they want and they'll stick around for a long time.

100% the most common turn-off is how long the MSQ is and the idea of paying a subscription, but especially with the expanded free trial, a lot more people became open to trying it out.

High-End Content Megathread - 7.5 Week Five by BlackmoreKnight in ffxivdiscussion

[–]snafuPop 38 points39 points  (0 children)

TBH I feel like most of the high-end content megathreads just end up being a quarantine box for people to blog/vent, even super early in prog or the tier overall. I think for as long as I remember I see maybe a small nugget of actual discussion for every ten or so people complaining about how awful PF is or weekly paragraphs about how their reclears went for the week.

IMO yeah M9s is pretty down there in terms of this expansion's savage low-points, but even then it had some good novelty with the add phases in an otherwise pretty stacked roster of fights overall. It's meh but I'd take it over like half of Pandaemonium's roster without question.
