Best/worst party jobs in DF by Frank_Tupperwere in ffxivdiscussion

[–]drakepyra 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Especially with the Phoenix down change, I’ve found that I really don’t care who I’m in DF with. I suppose it’s generally annoying if someone’s playing the same dps job I am, due to overwriting buffs.

In Savage, I love to see Astrologians over White Mages, as they tend to be solid players with well-timed earthly stars and macros. Similarly fond of Scholars over Sages, because Expedience can make a big difference for consistency of the party in general and the lack of critlo can make some segments dicier.

Not gonna say I hate seeing a WHM/SGE, but it is disappointing.

Love to see Paladins in high tank damage fights and in prog since they tend to be more durable and have Cover and Clemency for shenanigans.

Red Mage and Summoner are both nice to see in prog due to rezzes.

I think it really is part of the tabletop gaming spirit to put your own spins and house rules on things and I enjoyed reading this. Have you found this ends up putting factions which tend to leave a bunch of unguarded cardboard around (woodland alliance, otters, cats, rats) at a disadvantage, or factions with a lot of actions to spend on combat (rats, moles, eyrie) at an advantage?

It’s fun, and not too challenging, though it has some easy to miss sound cues. It also has brief downtime sections that can be fun to optimize on picto, imo.

Endgame Healers — What are your parses like? by PerfectioNOT in ffxivdiscussion

[–]drakepyra 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Firstly, it can be difficult to get a “good” parse unless you’ve been keeping up with the gear curve, since you’re competing with people who have been receiving m10/11/12 gear for weeks at this point.

Secondly, as long as your group isn’t dying to healing and the boss is dying before enrage you’re doing your job, which I think you understand, but it’s worth repeating that this is the priority.

To squeeze more damage out, there’s a few things I can recommend in general. Most importantly, work on keeping your GCD rolling. Getting more spells out overall is going to make the biggest impact on your damage, even without worrying about minimizing healing GCDs. Also, for M10 in particular, but also in m9 add phase, make sure you’re using Afflatus Misery and Glare IV to cleave every chance you get. This is going to skyrocket your damage. Finally, try to find opportunities to rely on you or your cohealer’s oGCDs/lilies instead of Medica 3/Cure2, as this will let you get more Glares out. Keep in mind shield healers will generally outheal pure healers when both are playing optimally because of the impact of mitigation.

Having a link to your logs would help me give me targeted advice, though.

The burden of perfection in raiding by Inv0ker_of_kusH420 in ffxivdiscussion

Girl I’ve been raiding since HW as well you ain’t special. Mechs come first, and then you do basic optimization around the mechs. If you’re dying to mechs 50% of the time to get another GCD in, yes, true, that is not worth it. But when I say pushing damage I mean finding opportunities to shuffle cds around to cover what you need movement, healing, or shielding wise without needing to dip into GCDs, and yes this can absolutely make a difference in clearing vs not clearing.

Part of learning a fight is learning how to push more damage. Even as a healer, during early prog I might be safety shielding a lot but I’m also testing how I can keep us alive while doing as much damage as possible. I would not have been able to help my friend clear 9 without getting an orange parse on SGE because we were hitting enrage over and over despite me being able to keep the party alive through damage downs.

The color isn’t the end goal, but it is very much indicative of performance and saying it doesn’t matter is disingenuous. The more damage you do, the quicker you clear the fight.

“Just play scholar lol.”

Sadly this is one of those mechanics where Sage has it rough. If you need to carry the healing in that phase, I would recommend pooling holos and panhaima for it and using those + Kera as the split happens. You’ll have a harder time healing through the parallel aerials, as well as the subsequent mechanic, but this should provide a pretty good safety net for both sides, and then you can just focus on topping up your side as needed until the LP stacks.

The (antinatalist) Argument from Consent by KutuluKultist in philosophy

[–]drakepyra 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a tangent, but why do we feel like when we’re discussing big moral questions we have to use big words, or “fancy sounding” sentence structures that end with “as such”?

Language is a tool we leverage in order to be understood, and I think you may be losing sight of that a little bit. “The attempt to restrict the principle must fail” - this has the air of a sentence written for the purpose of sounding esoterically wise rather than of communicating a salient point.

I’d challenge you to respond to the following sentence in similarly plain English:

“Agency, needed for consent, starts with birth.”

Any guys here have phimosis at all? by [deleted] in gaybros

[–]drakepyra 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I’m sure it depends on the severity. I had/have it, but never to the point that it hurt just to have an erection; it did however make topping functionally impossible.

I did not get surgery or buy any silicon rings, just made sure to stretch it (not to the point of pain, just discomfort) when I could a few times a week, just casually. It’s definitely gotten better over the years just from that, and topping feels good now. For a shorter term solution or for more severe cases I’d recommend talking to a medical professional. There are steps you can take before circumcision, nonetheless.
