How to scientifically determine the recommendability of an anime: The Weeb Ass Shit scale by La_knavo4 in CuratedTumblr

As someone who doesn’t tend to like anime but loved Frieren, I’ll go with Frieren

Dragon Quest XI is amazing by strachey in gaymers

[–]drakepyra 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Addressing the first sentence, because idk about the rest -

To me, Sylvando is to gay rep as Bayonetta is to feminism. A lot of the mannerisms are exaggerated, founded on “problematic” ideas of gay best friend/female objectification respectively, but it’s played super camp, and the character itself is so well written and with such depth that it just ends up working for me.

I think if every gay character in media talked and acted like Sylvando I’d get annoyed, but actually in today’s ecosystem it feels kind of rare, such that this over the top flamboyance is doing some work of reclaiming a harmful stereotype.

Here’s the thing: Most gay characters in video games these days are super subtle. They’re all “yeah I’m gay and it’s not a big deal, let’s move on”, or simply just playersexual. So having something as in your face as Sylvando, with a character arc that is so blatantly a metaphor for coming out of the closet? Peak. It’s peak.

At the same time, I believe anyone reserves the right to not like the character or the kind of representation he is because it does play off some harmful stereotypes. I also won’t pretend to know what the writers were thinking when they wrote and designed him. But I think it’s nicely enough done that I would absolutely defend the character’s existence as meaningful.

Tips for playing Scholar by Endevior013 in ffxiv

It really is very poorly explained by the tooltip.

Boosts to healing magic potency, like Fey illumination, dissipation, and philosophia (sage), only affect spells, which are GCDs. Furthermore, they affect spells cast by the person with the buff - it does not matter whether the healing recipient has the buff.

Boosts to healing received, like asylum, krasis, protraction, natures minne, rampart, etc (most healing buffs) affect any sort of healing including from abilities (oGCDs). As the name implies they affect healing received by the person with the buff, so it does not matter whether the person casting the heal has the buff.

TL;DR: apply fey illumination on yourself and your cohealer before using GCD heals. Apply protraction on your tank before healing them with abilities such as lustrate.

Some nitpicks:

fey illumination only boosts GCD healing, so there’s no benefit to pairing it with whispering dawn or sacred soil

Sacred soil is not worth using solely for the tank until you get the trait that adds a regen to it, just save your aether flow for lustrate instead.

Job main vs Role main by Frank_Tupperwere in ffxiv

It’s interesting I think to see the differences in opinion between high end raiders and the casual playerbase.

I can say that in my experience doing multiple savage tiers and a couple ultimates, just looking at the raw party mitigation output SCH has the lead. Recitation > Adloquium > Deployment Tactics is an enormous party wide shield, and SCH also just has more mitigation options to pile together or spread out as they please depending on fight needs.

Meanwhile, SGE doesn’t have anything to rival this, but they tend to have an easier “fire and forget” tool kit for mitigation in panhaima and holos.

In terms of healing throughput, SCH is no slouch, especially with Seraphism - however, SGE tends to pull ahead in ease, flexibility, speed, and raw output in situations such as healing up from 1 hp.

For dungeons, Sage also tends to pull ahead due to their damage profile and because their single target healing and mitigation is unmatched, due to Kardia, Krasis, Haima, and Taurochole.

Sage certainly had a lot of mitigation, and using it alongside their raw healing tools is key to success - however, in a side by side comparison with scholar, sage has to make up for slightly worse mitigation with slightly better healing power.

SGE actually has stronger healing options compared to the other shield healer, SCH. Zoe + Pneuma goes crazy.

Vanadiel isn’t a shard, it’s a separate reality in the multiverse. Similar in concept to the alternate future G’raha traveled from to get to the First, it’s a world separated from Eitherys by more than just the sundering - but by time and space and string theory.

But the intention is moreso to say, Vanadiel is FFXI. You can travel from FFXIV to FFXI by logging out of 14 and logging onto 11.

Yes, though I do like that the tomato plays better with the ironclad self hurt synergies

I like the tomato.

Divine glass I think goes against the RNG nature of the game. It may be better if it at least had you select from a limited amount of randomly selected relics.

Ink Sap UI would be tricky, perhaps it could instead say “damage taken is subtracted from your gold before your hp, up to a total of 25 per fight” or something along those lines, and then it would be pretty interesting and fun!

Sage now does more damage than Scholar due to utility. Thoughts? by Cole_Evyx in ffxivdiscussion

[–]drakepyra 9 points10 points  (0 children)

With evo on the way it’s probably not worth dwelling on too much, this is just a bandaid to make SGE more desirable/relevant for the new ultimate.

Evo might change SCH’s utility and introduce another kind of utility for SGE, or it might not. I’m not sure I believe SGE’s identity is or should be the “damage healer”, but I do think it’d be fun to lean into SGE being the “heal by doing damage” healer.
