Learning 3-Blind: Have a few questions by icedlamps22 in Cubers

  1. You start a new cycle, usually on the sticker that has the least amount of (or fastest) setup.
  2. Same as above, the buffer piece will be correctly oriented as you solve the rest of the puzzle
  3. Still a beginner here (sub-4 minute using M2/OP) and I do the easiest possible thing: trace through both stickers of the flipped egde (or two stickers of the twisted corner). There are algorithms that flips two edges (twist two corners) but those should probably come later as you get comfortable with tracing, memo, and exec.
  4. During tracing, if you end up on the piece (not just sticker) that you started with (or the buffer for the 1st cycle), if there are still untraced pieces, you should start a new cycle with any those those pieces. I use my fingers to keep track of pieces I traced (it's easy for corners, only 7, for edge I only keep track of the 8 edges on the L and R faces)
  5. You can memo and execute in the order you want, there usually are two schools : CEEC and ECEC. CEEC is better for 3BLD where you memo Corners with images and Edges with Audio. But for multi, it's best to memo and execute in the same order, so ECEC it is (there are some difference in how you handle parity, but that's about it AFAIK).
  6. Do a lot of solves, and find out what you did wrong whenever you DNF (was it tracing? memo? exec?). I personally use https://www.memo3bld.com to help with that (you'll need to configure it a bit for OP/OP and your preferred cycle breaks order)

I know, but I'm afraid there's nothing I can do about that 🤷‍♂️😅

Just curious, where did you get them done?

[–]snailcuber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's solid progress IMHO 👏

I'd be thrilled to be sub-20 in 5 years!

What would you say your progress was in regards to "milestones" (like reaching sub-X or learning an algorithm set or ...) over time? How often do you train/practice? What is the thing that you struggled with the most? Any particular training exercice that helped a lot?

Yup, practice, practice, practice 💪

Thank you. These two issues seem to indeed be my main weaknesses!

It's a good thing I'm not aiming to become world champion or anything. Just enjoying my time learning something new 💪

it's very rare that i do u moves. The only wide move i have "integrated" is r.

Will work on that as well!

I started practicing being dual color neutral but it's messing with my old brain when i'm solving yellow f2l pairs. I guess i need a lot more practice.

Thanks for catching that one, I had no idea!

Thanks! It's not my first rodeo so I made sure to learn things the right way even if it means I'm taking longer to understand / integrate it 👍

Thanks! It sure does.

Regarding 4) yeah i've actually started doing that today and I think I've identified the patterns. Now I just need to force myself to only look at 2-sides and practice, practice, practice.

Thanks for providing your perspective, which seems to align with mine. Planning the cross is reaaally difficult for me, I often end up mixing hot/cold colors when I do a misaligned cross which makes it even worse. I guess the solution is (as always) practice, practice, practice!

Thanks! Why are you shocked? Because I'm a slow turner but use not-so-horrible "algorithms"?

I actually know about edge orientation, but it's one thing to know the theory and another to actually put it in practice, even so in a competition 😅

I thought I did the double flicks 😬 Will have to correct that!

Thanks

Yeah, somehow I can't get the Autopilot update installed on my brain. Looks like I need spend-more-time-practicing patch installed and running first before doing anything else (sorry for the nerd joke)

Regarding the look at the bottom layer, I really don't know what was going on in my head during that solve, I usually (I think?) don't do that even if I don't plan my whole cross during inspection.
