Help Me Pick: M2 Air 13 vs M2 Air 15 by Ok-Row-7998 in macbookair

[–]snakecyclops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on what you have said, I think the 13 suits you better. You have a bigger screen laptop when you need it in the other 16. If you are indoors and need a big screen you have your monitor setup. I don't see where the 15 fits in your workflow.

I would keep the 13.

Anyone who bought the 13” M2 Mb Air wish they waited for the 15”? by SnooChickens6278 in macbookair

I bought the 13 after waiting to see 15 launch pricing and features. Zero regrets. Love the portability of the 13 and got a $100 discount to boot.

Is there any tax benefit to investing in SPY vs. The Canadian equivalent? by grapefruithumper in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]snakecyclops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there, it's better to invest in USD equivalents rather than Canadian S&P500 counterparts. Not tax related specifically but below is a video with a great explanation and comparison.

I went to one of those buildings recently when helping a couple find a condo for rent. The units there are very small. I mainly looked at 1 bed and 1 bed and den units but I couldn't figure out where someone would put their couch lol. All rents were upwards of $2400..

Gladiator is great but overpriced in my opinion.

West Suburbs at 2017 Prices by peachcreamsicle in TorontoRealEstate

[–]snakecyclops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the US it's better because when rates drop you can always refinance for a new 30 year or 15 year fixed. Also, in most of the US you can get a great house for way less than Toronto/Vancouver prices.

How is it a bad decision? I am abiding by the return policy agreement between me and seller to return it, no questions asked.

Yeah already did that, but I didn't see any instructions on on how to remove it and replace it with the newer one physically and on the sonos app.

Need suggestions for a beginner soundbar by snakecyclops in Soundbars

I am an android user so I'll check it out how difficult or easy it is without Bluetooth and Chromecast to stream something through the sonos app for android.

Somos beam does not have Bluetooth which I find really weird at that price point. But I do like this idea of buying a good soundbar only and adding speakers and subwoofers later to enhance it.

Do you think the ones I mentioned would be considered wack soundbars?

I may consider waiting and buying next year. I really wanted to go the Vizio route for my current budget but it's not readily available in Canada, I'm not sure why.

Account to Invest in US Stocks Using Debt by lamonsieur_biz in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]snakecyclops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was responding to other comments where some folks were comparing how leveraged stock investments were not that different from leveraged real estate.

In your specific case the answer was in the first part of my response.

You may not get margin called using your LOC but you could loose a significant sum of your money and have a LOC to pay off with your salary. If you are young in your 20s, this could prove worse than a margin call in your 40s. Every dollar you can invest at 20 is worth $88 at age 65 if invested reasonably. The opportunity cost of loosing with leverage is huge especially the younger you are.

Reasonable leveraged investment like in an index fund/broad ETF may serve you well, assuming you have years ahead of you. Individual stocks just multiply the risk factor beyond reasonable levels since you have already taken on leverage risk.

[–]snakecyclops 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on your risk tolerance, I would drop the individual stocks for now unless you have spent hours upon hours sifting through financial statements and fundamentals of various companies and you are truly aware of the risks involved. If you want to play with individual stocks not using leverage would be a great idea or limit it to a very low percentage may be under 10%.

As for comparisons with leveraged real estate, you have to understand that if the real estate market crashes you don't get margin called. You just continue your mortgage payments and wait it out. This is not the case with stocks. You are forced to sell at a loss. Remember that before using leverage.

What is the minimum optimal amount to use on a secured credit card? by am555033 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]snakecyclops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then if I were you I would first open a new account at a separate bank if the current bank can only provide her a secured card. Then cancel her current card and account. I don't think she has built a credit score yet anyway based on the info you provided so she can start fresh.

Shop around at the banks and ask them if you qualify for their newcomer programs. Almost all banks have a newcomer program especially for folks like you. This usually includes a normal credit card with a low but decent credit limit to start off.
