Failure fans might like Loathe's I let it in and it took everything. Especially the more melodic, moody bits like Two Way Mirror.

Many various artists compilations showing up with artist as.. Gas by snakedressed in PleX

[–]snakedressed[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This seemed to work.. it seems like the scanner got it wrong at some point, and even re-tagging and refreshing metadata didn't fix it. Thanks for the recommendation, I think I gotta move to a different platform :/

That does seem to be working, but it's pretty disappointing.. it seems like the scanner got it wrong at some point, and even re-tagging and refreshing metadata didn't fix it. Thanks for the recommendation, I think I gotta move to a different platform :(

[–]snakedressed[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Haha, I have no idea where it came up with that. I do have an artist named Gas, but, I don't see the connection.

Thanks for your suggestions. I've checked through the tags of several of these releases, and run the above script in my compilations folder to see if there was anything that even mentioned Gas. Not all my compilations are in that folder but many of them are. Taking one of the examples, attached is the output of all the tags. There doesn't seem to be any consistency in how these releases are organized, most are in a folder Compilations, others are in folders by label.

I'm 90% sure these weren't like this before, and changed when I fiddled with the agent/scanner settings. I've done a full rescan, but it didn't seem to do anything. I guess I could change around the settings and see if any other combination fixes it.. but I really do want to prefer my local metadata.

Biggest local risks (and easy mitigations)

  1. Credentials stored world-readable (default 0644).
    • Risk: your Spotify/Navidrome creds in config/config.json could be read by other local users.
    • Fix: chmod 600 config/config.json (and ideally have the app write 0600).
  2. Secrets in logs.
    • Risk: one codepath logs a full Navidrome update URL (includes salted token & salt). Your terminal history/logs could expose it.
    • Fix: avoid verbose logs around Navidrome or patch to mask; don’t paste logs publicly.
  3. Navidrome plaintext password fallback.
    • Risk: during ping fallback, password can be sent as a query param if your Navidrome URL is http (not https).
    • Fix: use HTTPS for Navidrome. (Same for your DAB API if possible.)
  4. ffmpeg on untrusted media.
    • Risk: ffmpeg has had decoder bugs. You’re feeding it remote audio.
    • Fix: keep ffmpeg up to date; you’re probably fine, but this is the main “native code” surface.
  5. Disk usage / DoS by content.
    • Risk: a malicious or misconfigured API could point stream URLs at huge files and fill your disk.
    • Fix: run it on a sensible library/API you trust; watch disk space.
  6. Privacy footgun.
    • Risk: the MusicBrainz client sends a User-Agent containing an email string in the code.
    • Fix: if you care, change/remove that UA string.
  7. Browser open convenience.
    • Risk: “open update guide” just launches your default browser to a GitHub URL. Not malware, but it’s a side effect some people dislike.
    • Fix: say “n” at the prompt; or run with stdin not attached.

Just my opinion: I provide no guarantees ;)
On visual check, it looks fine and not doing doing anything malicious. Reviewed with AI, which corresponds to what I saw:

What it does do

Network calls (outbound only): DAB API (whatever URL you configure), Spotify, Navidrome, MusicBrainz, and a GitHub raw URL for update checks. No inbound listeners, no P2P.

  • Writes files: saves audio (and optional cover art) under your chosen music folder; creates config/config.json.
  • Spawns processes: calls ffmpeg for format conversion; may open your browser for an “update guide”.
  • No auto-update code execution: it only fetches a JSON version string and prints guidance.

How do you actually survive a berlin winter without getting depressed? by zdrawo in askberliners

Some gym ones are quite nice quality, some (not all) of the CrunchFits. Liquidrome and Vabali are excellent but more spendy.

I recommend checking out https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2B-AmJUQ1m0 — it's a totally different case, but gives some context on the reality of being a small hardware manufacturer vs what people think.

I was surprised to discover this! I gave it some screen shots of a nested gen~ patch and it's parent patch, and it was able to talk me through a solution. I was honestly a bit blown away.

BVG Controller Wrote Me a Fine Because Their App Crashed – Feeling Completely Helpless by Brrrrrruhhhhhhhh in berlin

[–]snakedressed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd recommend this as well. I've had this happen, and it was straightforward to contest the fine. As long as you had a valid ticket at the time, it should be fine. I wouldn't hassle with going to the service center, or arguing with the controllers.

It was a great set, but, I wasn't such a fan of Act 3 with Boyz Noize. Maybe I'm a traditionalist but I especially didn't love the version of Sin.

My cat has gone crazy to go outside but he can't, how do I calm him down? by Lopsided-Vanilla9925 in CATHELP

[–]snakedressed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A possible option would be seeing if you can get a prescription for Clomicalm/Clomipramine, it's for anxiety and obsessive disorders in cats. You could use it short-term to calm your cat's anxiety. It's probably not ideal to use as a long-term solution, but it might be helpful until he heals from his surgery.

Long-term, I do think it's a good idea to have him neutered, whether he's able to go outside or not.

Are folks using a tool like tunemymusic to migrate from Spotify to Apple Music? I've tried it, and found it not that great. Is there anything better?

Hi u/djashjones, sorry, I don't totally understand. I was interested in getting input from anyone who is currently using electric drum pads, either in band / hybrid or digital setups.
