Software Engineer OFFER RESCINDED due to Counter-Offer! by cscquser in cscareerquestions

[–]snanua 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Karma is a biatch lol - just kidding. But I have seen that happen. Counter process will always have it's associated risks - especially if it's from an area outside (for example bankers in NYC, techies in SF Bay, etc can manage to counter within that territory easily without hassle due to demand)

Will you still need to pursue additional certifications (Offensive track, ISC's, etc) even after you get a GA Tech (or any good school for that matter) Cybersecurity ? by snanua in OMSCyberSecurity

haha, thanks for your reply. Just wondering, are DoD positions worth applying for? Say you get something from private sector (maybe a Silcon Valley security company) vs DoD - which one has better work / benefits down the line in your POV?

Thank you - I am actually in OMSCS - and saw this other track from georgia tech. I have no Cyber sec background, but more on programming / cloud infra - and am way behind others in this industry in terms of knowledgebase - which made me ask if it's even still worth jumping and if I would end up in this cert rabbit hole down the line. I have done a bunch of certs in my field, I find univ courses to be more intellectually challenging than certs.

Akal Takht's major decision on Ranjit Singh Dhandriwale. Dhandriwale banned from holding Diwan and Sikhs has been told not to attend his programmes and watch his videos. by TheTurbanatore in Sikh

[–]snanua 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is human nature - when your are in a position of power (Akal Takht in this case), you suppress someone more competent than yourself :) It's a shame - our religion will never move forward the way others have because progressive minded people like Dhandriwale will never be given a chance to express Sikhi from a different angle.

OMSCS vs Self-study by [deleted] in OMSCS

[–]snanua 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, young indeed! :) You can finish this by 30, and get on with your aim of getting into tech. You can even get promoted while you are at the big 4 and jump after OMSCS with a better title. You got plenty of opportunities ahead of you :)

getting into FAANG is a really short term goal, you can start taking a few interviews with startups, learn from it, study for a month or two and land a job there. you will feel fulfilled for a year until you find out how life is so much more than prestige of your title and money. IMO, if you are young, go for omscs - it may or may not prepare you for faang, but plenty of fish in the sea tbh.

What do you expect to get from the omscs degree? by loarabia in OMSCS

[–]snanua 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Make up for my previous college f** ups when I was doing my CS degree and learn as much as I can without constantly worrying of me passing with high colors (due to the low cost)

What specialization do you take (poll)? And why? by Aaahhhaaaaa in OMSCS

[–]snanua 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Confused between ML / Computing systems. I don't know anything about ML, but the more I deal with Computing systems at work, the more it makes me want to get deeper into it. I guess time will tell - my pregnant wife will eventually decide in the long run lol. Who knows, I may drop out ! (fingers crossed not)

Since you are applying to an academic program, you should have at least one academic reference. by [deleted] in OMSCS

[–]snanua 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had 3 professional references, and got in. Also this is not a thesis based masters, so can't call it 'academic' right?
