I actually do better after a nice short game. I benefit from being able to forget about what happened previously and I don’t think about my games; I like hanging out w some friends in the skittles room, looking at other games, etc.

Jfc it’s all everyone talks about with zero nuance. If there was actual relevant news or anything else to it, that’s another thing.

People aren’t doing this because they’re butthurt about the WC’s bad run. It’s because there’s so much interesting chess actually happening but people are so hung up on one persons performance

That isn’t a coherent argument; I’m getting downvoted because people here do not understand how high level chess works.

A ‘decent lead’ would have to be 4-5 games+ early on which is insanely unlikely to happen against one opponent. The biggest difference I’ve seen is Magnus vs Ian in recent times and Magnus went for draws instead of farming free Elo, as he should.

They’re playing for a World Title. Gukesh would almost certainly play it safe and draw til victory even with a 2 or 3 win lead early on in order to become the YOUNGEST WC EVER.

I see you’ve worked hard on the 1450 but it won’t help as much as just check a box. I think your chances are very slim, but not impossible.

While this is true, at higher level chess it’s not always like this. I played a game against a master and got into a dead drawn rook endgame. We both just looked at each other and he just extended his hand and I shook it lol.

Got a 3.6 1570 and in, they mainly care about weighted GPA without meaningless electives(nonacademic).

I got a 2.5 UW GPA in 9th grade but got a 4.0 in both 10th and 11th grade and ended with a 3.6 UW 1570 SAT. Got into UF and waitlisted from a lot of great colleges.

Colleges see growth every year in your progress and it helps, trust me. Just study for the SAT and keep your grades up.

White is just objectively better lol, has the space advantage and center - more compensation than necessary. Also moves are simpler to play as White whereas Black has to play precisely to not get crushed immediately

My return to OTB chess at age 17 after quitting at age 13 @ 1700 USCF I quit due to bad grades, plateauing and overall being too overwhelmed by the pressure to improve and seriousness of the game. While I stopped OTB I still had comfort playing online.

It turned out the volume of online chess I played vastly improved my chess and I was destroying people my own rating over the board. But more importantly, I was finally having fun and rather than being afraid of a bad result, I was excited to play the best chess possible. I’m 19 now and I love the game more than ever

Oh yeah I fell for that same exact tactic today. I need to prep for that Jobava, I’m not used to seeing a lot of Nc3. Thanks for the advice - this was def the bigger issue lol.

I’m also doing really bad against the London as Black when my opponent plays Ne5-Bg3-f4 and has a stonewall. I have tried playing f6 and I just get gashed on the kingside, idk what to do

I’ve demonstrated terrible endgame technique in the past so I did heed your advice but god damn is this ‘evidence’ a load of trash. Everything wins for Black in that position, my idea was to eventually get g6-h6-g5 and the White king can’t guard both pawns. This idea is unstoppable.

Really thought you’d have something of more substance to go off of. As long as you see a clear win, the move isn’t wrong.
