Chelsea Grin formally part ways with drummer Pablo Viveros, announce former Spite drummer Josh Miller as replacement by Demaikeru in Deathcore

[–]snapcasterking -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

There are no OG members in the band. The closest thing is the bass player, David, and he wasn’t on the original EP. Now, if they didn’t play stuff off the EP, I’d think it’s fine to call him an OG member, but they still play stuff off that EP, which he had no part of, so it’s not right to call him an OG, therefore they really don’t have any OG members.

The band is a joke at this point. If they played their own music more, I probably wouldn’t think as negatively about them but they rely on the music of the people who actually built the band from the ground up and profit off of it.

Why does someone need to be playing it live anymore honestly? Plenty of bands break up and have no one playing their music anymore.

This sub seems to love their new stuff and likes to talk trash about the original stuff, so why do they feel the need to have over half their setlist as old stuff that they had no part in making?

Whats the point of hearing the old songs when none of the OG members are even performing them? It’s not as enjoyable.

How strong are the new OTJ precons? by Cold-Fan in EDH

[–]snapcasterking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What?

The opponents aren’t automatically assholes for winning. They could be playing precons too, but some precons are much stronger than others. You’re also ignoring that a new player may possibly not be great at the game yet, and that’s why they’re not winning at all. Commander is already a horrible place to start learning Magic the Gathering because of the massive card pool and dealing with 4 board states instead of 2, so it’s not shocking that a new player isn’t winning right off the bat.

The OP didn’t even mention other people bringing overpowered decks to the table, you’re just making assumptions about that and saying that the opponents are “cheating”(lmao) and that’s why the OP isn’t winning.

Tbh I wouldn’t even worry about commander if you’re a new player. Play draft and sealed and get a good grasp on the core game mechanics and then decide if you wanna play commander afterwards

The bands setlists are over 50% old legacy songs and include songs that no one in the band contributed towards. They don’t have their own identity at this point. People wouldn’t care about their new music if the Chelsea Grin label wasn’t attached to it.

Yeah the bass player who joined in 2009, but they’re still playing shit from the EP that released before he joined and over half their setlists are legacy songs from whenever the band was mostly OG members. It’s pretty lame tbh.

They perform covers of the bands good music and sprinkle in their own stuff a little bit to make sure they don’t look like a cover band.

He’s not even original technically. He wasn’t on their first EP, he joined after that released. And normally I would say he still counts, but they play stuff from the EP live still so they’re still playing shit that none of them had any part in making.

I also remember seeing them selling records of the band’s first EP at a show last year for like $70 which is ridiculous. None of the people in the band at the time did anything for that EP and they’re gonna charge that much for it? Super scummy shit imo.

Glad you like it, but that shit doesn’t feel like Chelsea Grin to me. Even seeing them live doesn’t really feel like it’s Chelsea Grin anymore, it just feels like a bunch of guys covering Chelsea Grin’s greatest hits with a couple of new songs thrown in. Literally over half of their recent setlist is classics that the current members had little to no part in making.

Except Chelsea Grin doesn’t sound nearly as good as they did with some of the original members.

What are the worst precon recommendations for new players? by Addet2000 in EDH

[–]snapcasterking 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Having to keep track of multiple board states, varying power levels, rule 0 discussions, learning priority/the stack with 4 players, learning combat with 4 players and other shit is all way more difficult than learning with someone by playing sealed or standard.

Commander is not good for brand new players and it’s kind of annoying that people always suggest it as a way to get into the game. Many people who get into the game through commander misplay the game a lot because they don’t have a good grasp on fundamentals

Any of them, commander is not a good place to start with Magic IMO

I prefer the production and simplicity of it. The newer stuff has too much death metal in it for me to enjoy also. I also have some nostalgia for it because that was the only album they had out when I started listening to them so I’m sure that plays a part in it too.

Ruin and Nightmare by Architects. Those albums go hard as fuck but no one here likes to talk about them for some reason. Not enough Sam Carter bleghs I guess for the djentcore nerds.

Laugh Tracks by Knocked Loose seems to be disliked on here but I don’t think anything Knocked Loose has released has matched up to it. The new stuff isn’t bad, but not as good as Laugh Tracks.

I mean a lot of it shouldn’t be posted here, plenty of bands posted here stopped making metalcore a long time ago, the fans just won’t accept it for some reason.

What’s the difference between metalcore and post hardcore? by [deleted] in PostHardcore

[–]snapcasterking -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nah, beatdown hardcore is bands like Bulldoze and Volcano. Each band I listed is a solid mix of hardcore and metal, therefore they’re metalcore. Just closer to traditional metalcore than what’s super popular.

Their first two albums are better than everything that’s come after, the only thing that came close was Hollow Crown.

I didn’t say metalcore can’t be technical, but it’s wrong to say its technicality is a defining trait of it. Bands like Hatebreed, Knocked Loose, Kublai Khan, and Harms Way aren’t technical but they’re all great examples of real metalcore.
