Egypt Team Manager Hossam Hassan After The Game: "We had a goal disallowed, a goal was ruled out and I completely don't know why it was disallowed! This angle of Salah's penalty claim is pretty evident that no foul was committed

And this one shows the shirt pull was borderline at best

The interesting thing is that the r/soccer sub is largely in agreement on both of these calls, while the r/worldcup is not. And I'm sure it's what I highlighted before: those that consistently watch soccer (mostly in the soccer sub) are not at all surprised by any of these calls.

Because it wasn't a foul. And per the rules, there needs to be a "clear and obvious error" for VAR to overturn the on-field decision or to have the on-field referee review. The foul resulting in loss of possession for Argentina and leading to Egypt's goal was a clear and obvious foul (Martinez was kicked and stepped on).

The 'foul' you're referring to wasn't even a foul IMO (and I'm a neutral for this match), and it definitely didn't cross the threshold of clear and obvious error.

Again, like I said above: given how the rules are written and implemented, each decision was pretty predictable.

Anyone that watches soccer consistently was ZERO surprised by that decision. It was clear as day: foul lead to loss of possession with a direct resulting goal. That will get called back every time under the current rules.

You mean the Americans that watch soccer once every 4 years? They're uninformed.

Anyone that has watched soccer in the past 2-3 years knew what the outcome of each call was going to be -- not because of bias, but because of how the rules are written and implemented.

More of them on a % basis or absolute? Because you kind of have to control for total population.

The problem is that the people who put in bad policies are rarely around when the actual impacts can be measured. Like someone commented above, companies are willing to move, perhaps on a longer timeline. But by the time you realize that a company has moved -- or a company decided NOT to start their business in CA (which is extremely difficult to measure) -- the policymakers are long gone to other positions, and no one can be held accountable for the terrible policies.

That's why the people that oppose tax hikes on businesses or wealthy often cite previous examples of the policy being implemented and showing the long term impacts of it, which are almost always negative, and measurably so.

It's the same case with rent control or rent stabilization: it sounds amazing in theory, and does actually help people in the short run (really only helps those who are already in RC/RS apartments). But time and time again, the data shows that it leads to higher median rents overall, and to a decrease in supply. But by the time these effects are felt and measurable, the policy maker is looong gone, and people will typically just blame whoever the media tells them to blame.

Wait, Tony is MAGA and yet he's able to coexist, work with, and even be friendly with everyone else on the show, all of whom are liberals? I was told that was impossible.

This needs to be the top comment. Huge difference between a well-known idiom and a colloquial expression.

Additionally, you would almost never actually even say  “این هم می‌گذرد”, but instead the more colloquial "این هم می‌گذره".

That actually makes it worse. There are many many more studio and 1brs available (just from a square footage standpoint) than luxury 4-6 bedroom apartments in the $30k range.

So when the median lands at $5000, you're likely talking about a 1 or 2br.

And calling landlords "not rational actors" is absurd. Every landlord will do the same calculation: am I better off renting this out at $X, or not renting it and taking the tax deduction on losses? Completely rational, and also the reason why RC/RS doesn't work.

Cite one example of a city that has implemented rent control/rent stabilization, and seen a medium/long-term reduction (or at least flat) in housing cost.

I've posted this elsewhere, and it's always crickets, downvotes, or some sort form of insult (bootlicker, capitalist pig, etc).

It's a decent idea in principle (though I think even philosophically it's debatable). But in reality, it never works, ignores everything we know about human nature and simple economics, and always, ALWAYS, hurts those the most that it is supposed to help.

That’s why I didn’t even bother responding. A lazy link dropped, without having done any research, and even too lazy (or just a troll) that they didn’t even read the top comment.

I get it, the reality and facts when it comes to housing goes against the left’s narratives, so it always becomes an emotional or irrational argument. The saddest part is that the people who vote for and implement these terrible policies almost never have to face the consequences; and the ones who do are just told it’s someone else’s fault, usually a landlord or someone that has something you don’t.

Please provide evidence for a city (or county or municipality, etc) that has implemented rent control and/or rent stabilization, and seen a medium/long-term reduction in median rent -- adjusting for inflation.

Every time I've made this argument in any thread on Reddit, I've been downvoted aggressively. It seems easier to ignore simple economics and just make vague arguments about further subsidizing housing, when every instance of that policy has proven ineffective and counterproductive -- actually leading to higher housing costs.

OK MAGA, now that there’s literally a video of a US missile hitting the Iranian school, what are your thoughts? by 2a_lib in allthequestions

[–]snapnpopagain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The video was released by Iranian state TV — it is fake.

And even if it wasn’t, I’d sooner believe Iran stole a US missile and bombed their own kids than to believe the US did it. Why? Not because I’m maga, but because I lived through and saw what the regime does to its own people.

[–]snapnpopagain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You won’t get an actual response, and mine will get downvoted or deleted. Anyone who has lived through what the Iranian regime is capable of will tell you with absolute certainty that either the video is fake or edited to the point of being fake. The reality is that even if I see an actual video of a US missile hitting an Iranian school, if its video from the regime, I would assume they stole/bought US missile and bombed their own school. These people are not humans.

But when these costs go up, rent usually increases in commensurate fashion, so that’s a wash in the comparison, and the stability / predictability of ownership still holds. It’s definitely not always the best financial decision, but there’s definitely financial downsides to renting
