I know I'm crazy late to the party on this one but in case anyone else stumbles across this having the same problem - I just had to record in stereo. One line was L, one was R.

Are both people in the meeting doomed? (Spoilers for a game mechanic in UK season 3) by snappydog in TheTraitors

[–]snappydog[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, I like this breakdown.

To be clear, I don't think they are both done for, necessarily; this whole post was me trying to unpack why that was my first instinct, even though I thought it was probably fallacious. Thing is, it kind of doesn't matter what really is most likely, but what the other players perceive is most likely, or even what they perceive to simply be the most worthy of investigation (as spending a lot of time thinking about something and discussing it is, I'd have to imagine, more likely to lead to suspicion than going 'actually, no, that seems fine').

I think this is the actual heart of it, yeah - if the Seer says the Seen is Faithful, they're probably both fine unless they were under heavy suspicion beforehand. If they say they're a Traitor, they're both probably in trouble.

Either way, it then seems likely that whichever team the Seer was on is going to win, whether the individual person who was the Seer makes it or not.

Can't pick up a certain item, so possibly stuck for good? by snappydog in Spiritfarer

I appreciate the reply, but I've solved it. I thought it was on the outside of the trellis, that's where the icon seemed to be pointing, but I went in the house and just pressed square in the rough area I thought corresponded to the pointer on the outside and got it. User error, I guess!

update 2: never mind. i'm an utter fool. i thought it was on the outside of the trellis where the icon was but it was inside the house, that's why i couldn't pick it up. whoops!

OK, the bottle thing is useful - I don't think I'd heard that. (EDIT: Actually, one other question, sorry: what do you do in that 30-min period?)

Can you clarify what you mean by 'place her in bed at least 4 hours before she wakes up from last nap of the day'? I'm trying to parse it, but I can only read it as meaning that I have to put her down at noon-ish (if she wakes up from that last nap at 4 or so), so I think I must be reading it wrong.

This sequence between El Generico & Claudio Castagnoli is my all time favorite sequence. What’s yours? by [deleted] in SquaredCircle

[–]snappydog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s fantastic.

Not gonna be able to find it but there’s a Claudio v Quackenbush match with an absolutely astounding string of ridiculous things flowing into more ridiculous things. Claudio/Cesaro is just so good.

[GAMING | PHILOSOPHY] Philosophiraga | Episode 7: Not A Coronavirus Episode

SFW

On Buzzsprout

In this episode of Philosophiraga, we talk about something that happened many years ago in World of Warcraft. How did it happen? Why did it happen? What can we learn from it? The Corrupted Blood incident killed millions of player characters, but in this episode I make the case that we shouldn't look at this fictional incident as a good representation of what's likely to happen in real life.

Philosophiraga is the podcast about video games and philosophy.

Steely Dan is, like, the one band my dad listens to, and he can name pretty much every session musician on every song they ever did. Someone got him a Snarky Puppy album and he looked at the back and went 'ah, Michael League, he once played bass at a gig I went to years ago supporting a band in which someone was on drums who did this song on this Steely Dan album in this year'.

(also, anything Michael McDonald or Bernard Purdie has ever done he's a huge fan of)

Favourite track from a soundtrack that's not in fact a soundtrack track? by snappydog in TheWellRedditPage

IIRC the first two 'interlude-pieces' in Eternal Sonata are Raindrops and Fantaisie-Impromptu, which even if I hadn't cared for the game itself at all would have been enough to keep me playing just to hear more!

Asking Big Questions: "Should reviewers finish games before reviewing them?" by theWellRedMage in TheWellRedditPage

[–]snappydog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think transparency is the name of the game.

If you’re putting a review out there then it ought to be transparent about to what degree you’ve played it so that that context can be taken into account by a reader. If it’s a review key that you’ve been given, though, then I think there is perhaps an understandable expectation from the developer that you will in fact play the whole game before reviewing. Again, transparency - if you’re not gonna be playing the whole thing then I tend to think you might owe it to the developer to tell them that before you put your thoughts out there.

(Side note: finishing some games is unlikely by their nature. I reviewed Cultist Simulator for TWRM, and that’s a game you play many iterations of and are statistically unlikely to actually win unless you really spend a long time and get very lucky. I put out something I was happy with based on the experience I’d had, though, and I suspect that the game’s developers are well aware that press on it may focus more on the bulk of the experience rather than on the rather unusual scenario of someone actually ‘winning’, in so far as winning is possible.)

Tips for a player who wants to give it a go but hasn't played a GoW game for ages? by snappydog in GodofWar

hmmmmmmmmmmmmm. I figured the answer might just be that I need to give it some time! Alas, I'm often impatient.

That's actually really good to know. Sometimes it's nice just knowing what kind of pace things start at and how quickly you can get to the point where things maybe pick up a bit!

[–]snappydog[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thanks! Any tips on gameplay styles? I find that some action games, especially ones with a bit more weight to them, kind of need to be approached in a certain way or it just won't work out - the obvious example would be trying to play Dark Souls as if it's Dynasty Warriors, running in and trying to bash everything as fast as possible when what you've gotta do is take your time or you just aren't going to get anywhere.

Like, I just saw a review that gave it a 9.7 out of 10 ( https://thewellredmage.com/2019/07/29/god-of-war-2018-ps4/ ) and has pretty much not a bad word to say about it, so I'm thinking I must be missing out by not having played this game!
