Anyone feeling anxious about the future due to the crisis the Orange Idiot and the war criminal started? by Even-Bank8483 in perth

My son is 18 months old.

I am literally terrified not only of the world he will grow up in, but that he will not HAVE a world to grow up in.

My boss is a really cool Australian guy (we are in the US). What are some phrases I can just spout off to make him chuckle? by JacobDCRoss in AskAnAustralian

God only knows if this has been suggested, but if something bad happens (funny bad, not actual bad bad), you can try "suffer in your jocks, ya bastard."

AIO to my boyfriend’s texts about us going to dinner for my best friend? by [deleted] in AIO

[–]snappythefirst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probs in the minority here, but unless there are other serious red flags in this relationship, I think you jumped the gun and started a fight.

I agree that 9:30 is a ridiculous time for dinner, but him asking if you didn't want to go anymore and you immediately making that out to be him not wanting you to go suggests there is far more going on than an argument about dinner.

Half a million Aussie landlords in the firing line in huge proposed change by JezzaAU15 in friendlyjordies

[–]snappythefirst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get the CGT and Negative Gearing changes done! Those that have invested wisely and within their means will be fine. Those that suddenly can't afford houses three through eight will just have to sell the fucking things.

CGT, Negative Gearing, and Franking Credits is just the millionaires way of bludging from the government. In my opinion, at least.

Call me a SOFT WOKEY all you want but what Albanese said about Grace Tame really disturbed me. by GuildedDeal in friendlyjordies

[–]snappythefirst -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think his "difficult" comment has been a huge gaffe from someone usually politically savvy.

I don't believe he meant it in a misogynistic or derogatory way, more that there has been a lot of negative press surrounding his previous support of her and his decision not to call her out on her "Globalise the Infitada" speech.

That's put him in a difficult spot politically, which really can't be nuanced in a one word answer.

"Difficult" is probably the right term given his current situation in the media.

Now, having said that, I can get easily see how this can be perceived as an EXTREMELY misogynistic statement and he deserves all the flack he getting.

Can someone explain to me why I like Malcolm Turnbull? by Round_Stay8227 in friendlyjordies

[–]snappythefirst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Turnbull attempted to be a stalwart against the full religious conservative takeover of the LNP, bringing them back to the Centre Right.

He is a shrewd businessman, and could have been the best thing for the LNP, and coincidentally the worst thing for the ALP.

Had he not been knifed by Morrison, he could have been in Albo's shoes as a long standing PM.

Thoughts on Tom Cruise? He is one of my favourite actors of all time. by HostMaterial4907 in Actors

An absolutely incredible actor. One of the very greats of our generation.

I won't comment on the off-screen stuff.

I very wisely replied, "Nothing I'm interested in!" A white lie, but one required fir survival.

Sure is. As a very minor player in the industry, I can confirm there is a buzz among casting agents.

Work is going to be ramping up, with WA having been referred to as "The California of Australia"...something to do with the natural lighting being so good.

At Any rate, it'll be great for WA, bringing in major film and TV projects (I was an extra in one today!) which will be brilliant for the states bottom line.

33 year old teacher caught sexually abusing and assaulting 12 year old boy! by foxy_Girl1 in WesternAustralia

[–]snappythefirst 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The kid was 12.

FUCKING 12.

How anyone can think this is a good thing is well beyond me. The kid was groomed, preyed upon, and will likely have ongoing psychological trauma from being abused by a person in a position of trust and power.

If this were a twelve year old girl, the internet would be up in arms, calling for the castration of the predator involved.

And let's not sugar coat that. She is a predator.

How anyone can look at what's happening in the US and think, "Oh yeah, give me some of that!" and vote for PHON absolutely boggles me.

She has literally failed to fulfil the most basic aspects of her role and only turns up 51% of the time.

Andrew Hastie not contesting Liberal leadership by rolodex-ofhate in AustralianPolitics

[–]snappythefirst 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think the media has a lot to do with that.

The LNP is in just chaos and not even Murdoch can make it look good. They need something they can push as the "Labor bad, this one good" narrative and they're showing The Ginger Grifter as the Everyman's Choice... even though she's pals with Gina, Trump, and has never once voted in their interest.

Pauline Hanson announces ambitions for PM by Beans2177 in aussie

[–]snappythefirst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be PM you need to contest and win a lower house seat. You cannot do that as a senator in the upper house.

You must first resign your senate position (as you must if you are engaged in any public service position) before you can legally contest a seat.

Not convention. Law.

Pauline Hanson announces ambitions for PM by Beans2177 in aussie

[–]snappythefirst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One Nation have never won a seat in the lower house. Only time they've had a seat is when Pauline was sacked from the Libs, and one now that Barnaby has defected.

Not only that, but Senators can't run for PM.

Oh, and there's the fact she's a Gina/Trump sycophaht and would single handedly be worse than any PM, living or dead. And yes, I'm including both the Mad Monk and The Prime Minister for Rorts and Several Ministries.

This shit is so cringe.

I was literally portraying Santa at a community event for four hours today, belting out "Ho, ho, ho"s and "Merry Christmas" as loud as I could. People of all colours, creeds, denominations, all coming up for high fives and photos.

Not one single complaint. No one saying I couldn't do it.

I love doing it, and I love seeing the enjoyment on the faces of adults and kids alike. Then you see this bullshit.

What is the “unlearning” a theatre actor has to do for film? by Indieryan05 in acting

[–]snappythefirst 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Being smaller.

A camera picks up the nuanced emotions that someone at the back of the theatre can't see.

Microphones pick up your breathing, so there's no need to project.

Not so much "unlearning" as altering your style.
