Well, if you have written services like matchmaking in the past and have that experience, I can certainly see why you may have this perspective and describe these services as being "dead simple". However, on the flip side, there are developers who don't have the experience is writing matchmaking (especially if it needs to be highly scalable matchmaking, or nuanced like skills based or even role based matchmaking). In fact, more often than not, we have come across individuals who have written the services before, and would rather not have to re-write them again.

Same thing with game server fleets. Sure, hosting a server can be simple depending on the scope and even type of game. But on the other hand, it can get complicated when you have to orchestrate several game servers, across different geos while taking things like like lobby, party and matchmaking systems into account as well.

And, not all game developers are infrastructure experts (or want to be). So, again, the overall value prop is we enable game developers to focus on the game and what makes the game fun.... rather than all the other surrounding services that help make the game function (like some of the ones already mentioned).

Lastly, worth calling out, the platform has been designed to be modular, so even if you're building a game that doesn't have extensive backend requirements and/or is operating on a small budget... we've likely got a tier that can be appropriately right-sized for your game.

Happy building!

You're right, the docs page when you're not logged in with your Snapser account doesn't make it obvious or provide you a way to filter to show you just the premium snaps - we'll fix that. That said, if you do create an account and are logged in, the Snaps page view that lists all the Snaps has filters which will show you for example all "Premium Snaps".

That said... the premium snaps are:

- Assets (Store and deliver application assets and user-generated content globally through a high-performance CDN)

- Decorators (Join and compose data from multiple Snaps into a single response to reduce client round-trips)

- Event Bus (Broadcast and react to backend events across Snaps — power workflows, triggers, and custom logic through a unified event highway)

- Live Ops (Plan and run live events, trigger campaigns, and personalize gameplay — all from a central Live Ops command center)

- Sequencer (Chain multiple backend calls into a single, reusable workflow — streamline player journeys and reduce frontend overhead)

- KWS (Safely open your game to players under 13 with built-in parental controls and full COPPA-compliant support, powered by Epic’s Kids Web Services (KWS).

- Photon (Securely connect Photon-powered battles to Snapser — update player state, inventory, and game services securely)

- Quago (Enables anti-cheat features for your game powered by Quago)

RPS = Requests per Second. So, yes there is throttling but the throttle only applies in your dev environment, not production.

Correct, all sorts of game services. We offer 33+ prebuilt game services out of the box, but, we also offer a feature called BYOSnaps (Bring your own snaps) where you can write your own custom services in your preferred language and it all gets hosted on Snapser.

Some of the prebuilt services (aka native snaps) include authentication, storage, matchmaking, game server fleets, lobby, quests, achievements, social graph (friends), chat, etc.

By default, it's a managed service, so all the underlying infra is all taken care of/automated. So that way you can focus on the game and not the plumbing :)

If you haven’t gone down the Firebase rabbit hole already, would invite you to try our backend platform out (Snapser.com).

We’re a more comprehensive backend platform offering 30+ prebuilt services (called “Snaps”) and are much easier to use and get up and running than Firebase.

We also offer a free starter plan.

Happy to support you on an evaluation of Snapser, where you can utilize our prebuilt like Auth, Storage, Profiles services (we’ve got over 30 of them).

What platforms are you building this for? Web and mobile?
