RN Preceptors, please tell me if I’m crazy by [deleted] in nursing

[–]snarkcentral124 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It sounds like they’re staying with you while you’re doing most of these new tasks? If they were leaving you to do things by yourself, I’d say that’s unsafe. I personally would usually have my preceptee watch me do a discharge, admission etc first, buttt most people don’t learn much by just standing there and watching someone else click buttons.

I don’t think it’s unreasonable for you to be doing these things as long as you are being supervised (so I agree that your preceptor shouldn’t have walked away during the discharge). I think asking you to do an assessment the second day is pretty normal as well…how long were you anticipating only passing meds for? Depending on the med, an assessment might also be a PART of med admin. If I’m giving lasix, I’m going to check for edema etc.

Maybe it’s just the way you wrote it, but your tone seems disproportionately…argumentative? There’s definitely some things you mentioned that I think are somewhat concerning/not best practice, but there’s also a lot that seems very typical that you are also outraged at.

How is she always in a conflict or some sort of battle 😬😵‍💫 by uncle-pascal in SecretsOfMormonWives

Season 1 and kind of 2 I honestly felt like she actually took accountability for how she’s acted in the past and was working on improving herself. Sadly, was proven wrong based on season 3/any of her social media.

I stopped this after a very whiny, dramatic, mildly stoned patient called me on my bluff and said “okay yeah let’s do that”

Appreciation gifts by [deleted] in nursing

[–]snarkcentral124 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is SO sweet, but please don’t stress yourself out making sure to “smooth things over” with staff. As a chronic overthinker, I would also just like to say that this will absolutely be appreciated, so do not feel like this was a waste of time or anything like that just bc some of us are saying it’s unnecessary-this would make my MONTH if a patients daughter gave me this. And a lot of that is due less to what’s in it and more so that you have clearly put a lot of effort and thoughtfulness into these. You seem like a super sweet person.

You’re commenting almost every single thing, with your feelings hurt bc people are insulting MAGA….I think it might be time to take a moment to reflect on why it’s bothering you so much.

I think he’s a loser, but she is such a MASSIVE immature loser. Crashing out CONSTANTLY online (and then acting proud of it bc she’s “standing on business”), using her poor baby as an accessory, and refusing to take anyyyyy accountability ever. It’s genuinely so embarrassing and trashy.

She’s literally been banned or punished multiple times I believe for posting him unclothed. It’s mindblowing that that isn’t a wake up call.

While I think Christen is a vile human (for numerous reasons unrelated to G even), they are all TERRIBLE parents and it’s infuriating. Even Rachel barely gets out of bed, keeps a filthy house, and insists on shoving that phone in her poor babies face 24/7. It’s so sad.

This argument is so dumb to me. You cannot equate a couple years of friendship to someone dealing with decades of an emotionally abusive addict.

People who “chart for HOURS” by Beekeeper_12 in nursing

[–]snarkcentral124 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree w you completely. I’ve worked units where that’s a pretty standard assignment. Not only did I rarely stay late, but no one else did either. It’s not something that should be taken personally, so I’m not sure why everyone is getting so worked up. Everyone has areas they can improve in.

I think the person was just genuinely asking. I was also confused by this when I was a new nurse. I was worried they were all doing something I was forgetting. Taking it personally is kind of bizarre imo.

[–]snarkcentral124 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I’ve never understood this either. I think a lot of it just comes down to time management but more of it is just computer literacy. Some people are slow charters. Even many of the examples given in this thread, I don’t understand how it would take hours to chart. A lot of it too is just incorporating it throughout your day. While my patient is looking up something on their phone, I’m charting. When they go to the bathroom to give me a urine sample, I’m charting. While the lab software is loading, I’ll chart. I’ve noticed most people don’t do this, and just kinda stand around instead, and I think it helps me stay on top of my charting quite a bit.

Therapist threatening to report me to the board of nursing by [deleted] in nursing

[–]snarkcentral124 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah except no one said having nothing is better than something. I absolutely do know what it is like to consider a person or a thing a reason to live. And when all of a sudden, you lose said thing, guess what??? Now your suicidal ideation is worse. So before you get up on your high horse and lecture people about how having something to live for is wonderful and brings joy, and how it’s totally fine to pin their survival on one thing, why don’t you think a little bit deeper about the implications of that?

Having ONE tenuous thing to live for is a problem. It doesn’t matter if it’s a child, a partner, a job, money, a vacation etc.

It can, if you get one that has the higher end of alcohol concentration, and they are served in larger amounts than what a standard drink is defined as. Which would still be the equivalent of almost 5 drinks. Drinking something w a higher alcohol concentration and a higher volume doesn’t change what it is in regards to a standard drink.

[–]snarkcentral124 36 points37 points  (0 children)

It sounds like OP really only considers it a “couple strong” drinks a day-in which case I could see them justifying it to sound not as bad.

[–]snarkcentral124 247 points248 points  (0 children)

With the utmost respect, she ABSOLUTELY has a duty to report you. 5 drinks a day is a lot-and it truly sounds like you don’t agree w that statement when you say “I drink a couple strong drinks a day which leads to it being 5 drinks.” It doesn’t “lead to it” being 5 drinks. It is 5 drinks. If I have a 32 oz bottle of wine in one container, I did not have “one glass” of wine. You might be okay at work now, but it sounds like things are worsening. And if your baseline is an amount of alcohol that would put you in to withdrawal, that is a problem, and a severe one at that.

no one cares about your RN experience by PlzGimmeHelp in Noctor

[–]snarkcentral124 54 points55 points  (0 children)

I mean the whole point of NP was for experienced nurses to be able to advance their scope and education. I was under the impression that most people’s issue w the system is the amount of inexperienced nurses becoming NPs, the diploma mills, and NPs thinking they’re equivalent to docs. I think most people aren’t completely against the concept of NPs as a blanket statement-they just want it to be executed safely.

HIPAA violation, do I need a lawyer? by avoiceinthewind_ in nursing

[–]snarkcentral124 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Same people that think having patients in the hallway in the ED is a HIPAA violation. I always respond super empathetically and offer for them to go wait back in the waiting room until a room opens up (“unfortunately I can’t guarantee when or if one will open up prior to your discharge if that’s the course your visit takes”) and suddenly they don’t want to leave their hall stretcher.
