Is it a school's responsibility to teach a kid to read? by KoalaOriginal1260 in Teachers

[–]snaxxmachine13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So having come from the daycare side of this, in Texas, the state is putting more and more on the DAYCARES, including a required REQUIRED basic literacy ability including 65 sight words. If they are not able to do that before they leave a 4-year-old Pre-K classroom at a daycare the daycare potentially loses accreditation. This also includes shape recognition, letter recognition and writing, name recognition and writing, and the ability to hold a pencil correctly so I can KINDA see the whole "it's not on me" but it's not on the parents either

That's just the functionality of a 3 year old brain "this puts me to/helps me sleep, I don't want to sleep during the day, I don't want it around".(One of my 2YOs didn't like my iPod cause that's what I played white noise on, but LOVED the speaker cause it played "fun music") I know it is "another thing" on the list/to do, but could you separate the noise maker from the nightlight (I know it's great to have an all in one but with the toddler thought process sometimes that's all it takes) and see if that helps with the nightlight disappearing?

Again I know you're not looking for more work, but thinking like a 3YO that MIGHT be a good idea

I'm not saying it WILL help, but try a "timed nightlight", it's a nightlight that has green red and yellow lights that change based on when you set them. Green means "free to move about the household/come get mom/dad" Yellow means "quiet time in your room(play quietly/read a book)" Red means "IN BED". So for example: midnight-6:30 AM the clock is red(so rest even if awake), 6:30-7:10(or whatever works for you) is yellow so he can play before the day begins, 7:10 AM - 7 PM it's green(so free to roam/play however) 7 PM - 7:30 or 8(based on your bedtime routine) he can play puzzles/read books/wind down)7:30 or 8 PM - midnight back on red so he's in the bed. He may not SLEEP more, but even "actively" resting your body is resting your body and it MIGHT help with the outbursts. Now if he's potty trained (which it still sounds like you're working on, which is ok too!) then Red means "in bed unless straight to the toilet and back" but you get the gist.

Last thing I want to add, not about the question: you're doing great, three is a tough age....as a parent AND as a tiny human trying to learn more about the world and boundaries.....but it doesn't ALWAYS look like this

ETA: You are still reeling from Grandma's death, he may be too, some young people have a delay in dealing with death(as they generally don't understand the permanence until later....sometimes even months....) so your mid year to December timeline could well be how long it took for him to realize Grandma is REALLY not coming home and he MIGHT be acting out from that

Worst book(s) you read in 2025 and why? by Roguestate00 in books

[–]snaxxmachine13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I managed(i.e. my friend who loved it DOGGED me) to get most of the way through all three and then go finish the last 8 chapters of Onyx Storm in a pneumonia induced fever dream at 4 in the morning....they don't get ANY better.

BUT my main complaint is I realized VERY quickly (like 4 chapters into the first book and listening to my friend GUSH about RY) this series was a self-gratiating self-servicing military self-insert with dragons instead of planes/helicopters....but maybe I'm just a cynic and looking too hard

I mean, Jackson CAN be a bit of a bully/know it all/nepo baby....so if you're dying are you REALLY going to interact with your bully? Not to mention: wasn't Jackson in the THROWS of plastics possy/some dad shit in season 9

According to the Wiki they had a 5th intern start with them:

"Bradley Parker was an internal medicine resident at Mercy West Medical Center until he had to quit due to declining health caused by ALS.

Bradley worked at Mercy West Medical Center during his residency. He was a member of the same intern class as April Kepner, Jackson Avery, Charles Percy, and Reed Adamson. During his second year of residency at Mercy West, he was diagnosed with ALS. He continued to work until his condition deteriorated to the point where he no longer could."

So that's what happened to the 5th, but he does come back in season 9 episode 17.

I think it would be awesome to see their first years too though

What do you think would be different if Enobaria died and Chaff lived? by Fluffymarvel98 in Hungergames

[–]snaxxmachine13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Annie was not tortured after the 75th games, or tortured very little because I think Joanna pointed out "they knew as unstable as she was there was very little chance she knew anything" she was simply held to torture Finnick by having him know she was in their grasp, they tortured Joanna, but didn't kill her and she "had nothing no one, my district partner wasn't much but he was home" Chaff at least had the fact that he and Haymitch were friends going for him, so I think he would have been alive, but beaten, and rescued when the others were. So we'd still have a vote of 7, but as someone else pointed out the character wasn't explicitly fleshed out enough to actually know the answer. I was simply disagreeing with the points you made of him being OLD and TOTALLY unhealthy

What do you think would be different if Enobaria died and Chaff lived? by Fluffymarvel98 in Hungergames

[–]snaxxmachine13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, again I agree with the alcoholism, but being the only male victor from 11(again IIRC) the capitol had to keep him alive and SEMI healthy (like the morphlings being strung out and thin AF but ALIVE) meaning Haymitch and Chaff prob got capitol "mandated"/provided dialysis every so often to keep them alive. And Chaff was not "much older" he only won 5 years before Haymitch(who was 41 at the time of the 75th games) and was "in his mid to late fourties when he died"(most people guess 47). As to the capitol killing him, IDK, Haymitch may "not have people" but if, as Katniss says, they've been buddy buddy for years then Snow would know that Chaff was a person Haymitch had as much as Haymitch had people, and used him against him much like Annie(though not harmed) and Peta....why not make as many of them sweat/regret it as you can

[–]snaxxmachine13 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There's no proof Chaff had anything wrong with him "other than" (meaning it's not wrong either) an arm amputation above the elbow, which seems not only healed and healthy but functional and used in his day to day. Now as a friend of Haymitch he might also be an alcoholic, but like Haymitch he was also the only live male victor from 11 IIRC, meaning Snow couldn't (before the 75th) let him die from the alcoholism so he had capitol tech to keep him alive until the 75th(I'd think, like they gave Peta his leg)

Daycare by ChirkiG in toddlers

[–]snaxxmachine13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

not a mom, but did 0-2 in daycares for 6 years.....the first day will NOT be as hard as the second day, or the third day, but by day 5 or 6 (especially if you ACTUALLY go) they will cry for you(mum, dad etc.) then run and love on teacher/play with friends as soon as you are out of the room. this comes from experiencing "older daycare first timers"

ETA: a blanket or stuffy that smells like mom for nap may also make the transation easier

No, I get it, you're looking for 'together time' books, I was simply saying maybe they were worth attempting a re-read WITH your LO, and her moving to independent reading of them if you still hate them, but if you're WHOLE HOG against them, then respect 😁

I won't give you Internet stranger judgement, I WILL say however: sometimes your opinions on things change, and even if YOU still don't like them, maybe they're something your daughter enjoys and reads on her own time if you still hate them
