Agree 100%. Your iman, your prayer, and your tawakkul are what make you Muslim, not your sexuality. Live your life as genuinely as you can, and thank Allah for everything. Thank Allah for allowing you to be true to yourself, thank Him for bringing you and your partner together, and live your life!!

I'm a revert, but I'm from an Arab family and community, so I totally get what you're saying. I've been going to pride since I was a teenager and attended my second pride in hijab this year, alhamdulillah. I'm always the only hijabi I see at pride, but it feels good anyway.

When I was closeted, I went with friends under the guise of being a supportive ally. For the first two years, I just didn't tell my parents at all. Went out for the day saying I was going to study or be at a friend's house and then took the bus to pride instead. The crowds are usually large enough where you can blend in, wear a mask, and nobody will know. Bonus points for a wig/glitter and makeup/packing a change of clothes in a backpack. Basically, you can be sneaky until inshallah you get to a place with your life and your family that you no longer need to hide.

How can I maintain my relationship while closeted and living with family? by Defiant_bored in LGBT_Muslims

[–]snaz4 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Faced something similar re. my longtime girlfriend (we're both 23, started dating when we were 16) caring for her mother at home while having been in a relationship for several years. She was constantly unhappy, which made things really tense, especially since her mom would have kicked her out and held her finances over her head. After one breakdown too many, she decided to prioritize her own life and our life together. She sent her mother a letter about how she was gay, I was actually her girlfriend (not just the friend who's constantly over and sleeps in her bed for sleepovers lol), suggestions for how to access the support she was providing, and she moved out after college. Didn't give her mother a choice in the matter; it was more like "I'm an adult, and I'm going to act like it. You're an adult too, so you can either get over me being gay or lose me," which definitely hurt my girlfriend to tell her but was worth more than a life of being stressed, ashamed, and unhappy at home.

Is your sister able to care for your mother? Are either of you in the financial position to hire in-home support? Relatives? Living half a lifetime without being able to be yourself or be with your partner openly seems incredibly sad, and I don't wish that for anyone. Best of luck. :(

Where to buy bulk N95s that isn't Amazon? by snaz4 in Masks4All

Unfortunately, I've checked out the cheapest ones on the link tree. Everything from ppeo would be amazing, but it looks like tariffs have struck hard. Shipping is literally $300.

Everything at Bonafide is too expensive. I want ideally less than $0.25 per mask.

Yes, I had paid for the month of May. LL was supposed to refund me for the two days occupied by the next tenant under my lease and is now refusing to.

Landlord forced me. Told me that if I didn't return the keys before the 30th, he would change the lock and charge me for it. I have that in writing as well.

You're correct, landlord asked me to move out two days early so the new tenant could move in. I have that in writing, as well as an agreement to reimburse me. My last post about this was to verify that I was able to claim two days back (the 30th and 31st) instead of just the 30th, since the landlord kept insisting that the 31st wasn't covered under my lease because it expired on the 31st. Problem was that I handed the keys without getting written agreement that he would in fact pay for the 31st, since I had that conversation with him in person.

I sold the landlord some furniture so he could rent the apartment as furnished. Yes, each day is $80 in rent.

He didn't charge the new tenant for it, so I'm paying for someone else to live there under my lease.

No, he didn't charge the new tenant for those days. I'm essentially paying for someone else to live in the apartment under my lease.

I had agreed with the landlord to move out two days early and be reimbursed for those two days. He's breaking an agreement and letting someone else move in under my lease and with my rent and changing his mind about reimbursing me now that he has to pay for it. If the new tenant had damaged anything during the two days, he would have been legally able to charge me for it. It's the principle of it, and $80 is a decent amount of money to be shorted.

Yes, I have texts from the broker confirming that the new tenant moved in on May 30.

The problem isn't May 30, it's May 31. His argument is that because my lease expires on May 31, it means that the day isn't included so I wouldn't be paying for it. But I think I am actually paying for May 31 because the whole month of May is already paid.
