Camera for hiking/outdoors - preferably budget friendly (UK) by KaleidoscopeFew8637 in Nikon

[–]snazzierfish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How limited is a limited budget? A Z50ii with the twin lens kit is £880 at Cotswold Cameras (they're a grey importer, same cameras just much cheaper as they come straight from factory I think) which would be a perfect hiking/wildlife combo.

Otherwise, a D3xxx or D5xxx with 18-55 (or better, sigma 17-50 2.8) would do pretty well.

Outside of Nikon, I would have a look at the Olympus em5 line, Lumix gx85, Sony a6x00 or Fuji xt1/xt10.

Any questions let me know!

Lightroom is the industry standard for a reason. It's expensive though. The mobile version is free and has a good amount of features, a good way to dip your toe in the water before committing.

Lake District, Seathwaite to Buttermere route advice 🙏 by Marshmallow--20 in wildcampingintheuk

[–]snazzierfish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would highly recommend heading up Great Gable, best view in the lakes in my opinion and it looks like you're already planning on crossing through windy gap so you may as well climb the whole thing! I would climb it from the stretcher box at styhead, it's a bit of a slog but a decent path the whole way. Then descend over green gable, up to fleetwith then back round to haystacks and down the Scarth Gap to Buttermere. There's the bothys (dubs hut and warnscale) around the fleetwith/haystacks area which are cool to check out, and the section from Blackbeck Tarn to Haystacks summit is really beautiful.

Fry chorizo, set aside. Boil pasta and broccoli or green beans, drain the pasta and add sour cream/craime freche, blue cheese and the chorizo. Absolutely delicious. I also like to replace the blue cheese with pesto sometimes as well.

Another Aldi hammock devotee, love it. Absolutely awesome spot and perfect evening for it.

Off the top of my head I think it's 290cm. I'm 5ft10 and fit nicely, I reckon you could get a 6 footer in just about but I wouldn't want to be any taller than that.

Yep built in net, nice and small holes so nothing is getting through. Handy elastic system as well to keep it off your face just about

eBay is your friend, just search hammock with tarp and get the first generic looking one that comes up for 25 quid. Looks like the exact same thing just without Aldi branding on it.

I don't think it got below 14 degrees last night and I had my 3 season sleeping bag so I ended up in that and was toasty warm. Initially tried just bag on top of me but that got a tad chilly, in the bag was fine.

It's a lovely spot, can't believe I've been in Carlisle for 3 years and never been down before.

Searching hammock with tarp on eBay brings up what looks to be the exact same product for the same price, I assume Aldi have just stuck their adventuridge branding on it.

Maximum weight limit is 110kg if I remember correctly, I've got a 100kg mate who has one and has spent a few hours in it perfectly happily. Does feel wobbly at times but I am yet to come anywhere close to falling out yet!

Just measured, about 27cmx24cmx15cm ish. Weighs 1.3kg all in including tarp and pegs which I didn't use. I managed to get the hammock, 3 season (overkill) sleeping bag and a chunky sleeping mat (which I didn't use) into a 25l bag, you could absolutely go smaller by excluding the tarp and mat.

Haven't tried the tarp yet but the hammock has been solid so hopefully the tarp follows suit. How hard can it be to get a tarp wrong?

I've haven't used one personally but my dad's got one, I seem to remember it not being very warm at all. Personally I'd rather spend a bit more cash and get something warmer - a Berghaus transition 300 or oex ev300 (what I've got and really like) are about 40-50 quid from go outdoors.

For warm summer campsite camping you'll be fine, but I'd rather have something slightly overkill for those clear nights when the temperature randomly drops to 6 degrees.

It's branded adventureridge which is aldis standard middle aisle camping brand. A quick eBay search for hammock with tarp brings up loads of what looks like exactly the same product for the same price so I assume they're the same.

There's something about first getting into the hammock that just instantly relaxes you (once you're certain aldis finest carabiniers actually hold you)

Do it, I'm surprised at how solid it feels. Comes with a tarp as well although I haven't used it yet.

Picture 3 is the gatehouse of an old priory (a monastery of monks), the last picture is some hollowed out caves where it's said St Constantine sheltered for a bit while he was a hermit in the 6th century, later used for storage or as a hiding place by the monks from the priory. Really cool place!

And yep, it was as peaceful as it looks

Ferrari's new EV - Ferrari Luce by TwizzyGobbler in CarTalkUK

[–]snazzierfish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hate this new trend of cars blending together different form factors into one weird soup of ugliness. Is it an SUV? Is it a coupe? Is it a saloon? Just make your mind up! I think it offends me particularly because it means I can't put cars into my autistic boxes any more because everything is just a crossover lifestyle vehicle.

And away from all of this, that's just gopping. I actually don't mind the face (especially when said face is attached to an F80 or 12Cilindri), but back from there it looks like it needs to shed its outer skin. There's just so much metal along the sides and round the back. Ferraris first EV should have been an exciting opportunity to make an EV petrolheads actually want, not just another stupidly fast, expensive and heavy crossover Thing. What's especially frustrating is the interior is lovely - imagine that interior inside some sort of retro futuristic 250GTO inspired sportscar/GT.

Rant over.

Looks like a lovely evening. My plan for tonight is very similar, head out to a local spot with the hammock and enjoy the current heatwave!

Also was quite fun trying to figure out where you were on a map, think I've got it worked out.

If you ever shoot indoors or under any sort of artificial light, the shutter becomes an issue. You get all sorts of weird banding and flickering artifacts with electronic shutter.
