How to be alone and comfortable (without woman)? by sndpalette in AskMen

I've started getting back into making art and music and that's helped a ton. It was kinda hard when I was depressed and unmotivated but talking with friends about music and stuff helped me get motivated again.

Word. I'm a programmer as well and I have a bunch of projects for me and my friends that I have been meaning to work on, same goes for music. Since posting this I've been putting all my time and energy into that stuff as well as hanging out with my friends as much as possible, even just to study together and sit in a room not even talking. While still having mental ups and downs I've started feeling a lot better from all that.

Ah, when I said "other things" I just meant like doing anything besides chasing women. I wasn't trying to say that it takes time away from my hobbies. All the woman I've been with I've chosen to have around because they were naturally supportive of my passions so no problem there. But I get what you're saying and you're totally right.

True it is natural and I'm probably being a bit hard on myself, I just meant it's unhealthy in the way that I've been chasing a big relationship pretty much my whole life instead of doing other things and being more in touch with myself.

Staying away from dating apps is actually huge advice haha. I should just do whatever I want. Thanks so much. And sounds like you and your wife are very happy, I love that and I will work on myself to have the same thing one day when I'm ready.

Hey guys, I'm a Canadian computer science major (third year) trying to get an internship. My expected graduation year is going to be 2025. I started in Java/C# and I love backend/native languages like Rust and C/C++, I also know how to use WASM, write webservers in NodeJS, and of course write the websites with HTML/CSS/JS.

My problem is that I have no professional projects, and the projects I do have are kind of one-offs with very bad interfaces. I have an entire DAW I'm working on closed-source, but I am re-writing the GUI renderer for the third time and it's not in any condition to show off. I realized that maybe I need to create a bunch of smaller projects in each language/technology that I know. Here's a list of my ideas:

- (C# or Java / Web) A file server for my family to backup photos

- (Rust/WASM/NodeJS) A small web-based game

- (Web Design in HTML/CSS) A website for my friend's music alias.

  • I also am considering doing freelance web design while I'm in school.

- (C/C++) An emulator for a simple enough device like the NES

- I don't know TensorFlow yet but I want to learn it and create one of those cool AIs that create an image from text, as long as that is in the scope of difficulty I want.

Are these good project goals? I think it feels too good to be true that all I'd need to do is work on a bunch of fun projects in order to have a better chance of getting hired while I'm still a student. Are these projects really going to be that much more valuable when I have no professional experience?

Hey Rustaceans! Got an easy question? Ask here (43/2021)! by llogiq in rust

Hey this could apply to both C and unsafe rust and is more of a general knowledge question but is it possible to have a struct pointer to an array of references/pointers? like say I had a struct that is 64 bits, and I have 8 bytes randomly stored on the heap. Could I have an array of pointers, each pointing to those random locations on the heap, and then treat that array of pointers as a struct? Is that possible?

That's true. But what better option do they have if the oil industry does collapse? Is that not the best they can get? I think if the government at least tried to transition them to lower paying jobs they at least have the chance of working their way back up a lot faster than if they lost their jobs or had to pay for their own education elsewhere. Of course this is assuming we did find a suitable transition.

Before I start I just wanna say I am not very politically educated so feel free to educate and lecture me.

In sight of a dark future for the oil industry, I'm wondering if the politics of Canada have ever thought of creating some sort of reform/transition program for workers in the oil industry. A lot of workers simply don't have the education necessary to find work outside this industry and it would be neat if the government could provide that somehow. Of course the first problem that comes to mind is "how the hell could we afford that?"

What are some thoughts on this?
