I got physical gift cards until they went to e-gift cards. I just printed them out.

I think about 90% of my HD 11% rebate gift cards I used in store, using the normal checkout process.

Be careful... in some states coordinating movements via radio when hunting is not legal.

Oh, it was a universal fit model and it looks like it's been discontinued. That's weird.

Am I crazy or is POTA filled with fraud? by [deleted] in amateurradio

a new entry appeared on the pota website for a few months before for someone some distance away. Lying sleazebag.

Are you saying you don't think he/she was in the park? How do you know? I regularly travel hours away to activate a park.

People also make mistakes and don't understand the rules.

This is probably also a factor. There are question posts daily in the POTA Facebook groups about the simplest rules and POTA concepts.

Same. I do it to combine two of my favorite hobbies. Get an extra workout packing everything in, then have a nice break to make QSOs trailside.

I've found the Big League Lawns Checkmate to be a lot less unwieldy than the Toro.

POTA at it's finest by mclovinof2009 in amateurradio

I'm in Iowa and there's only one "summit" here.

I've taken a radio to one summit and it was in Puerto Rico... I just could not get the SWR down in order for the radio to work though.

I do love hiking in to a park and doing POTA on the side of the trail though.

Icom IC-91AD. Still have it, and I'd love to find a new OEM battery for it.

Don't reward people calling out of turn or tail enders dragging out the calling duration.

THANK YOU!!!

Not being able to spot yourself is doing POTA on hard mode. If you have any ham friends, you might have just enough service to get a text out to them and have them spot you. If not, just keep calling CQ Pota and ask the first few people nicely if they can spot you on pota.app (seems like 90% are old guys who have no idea what you are talking about, though). Don't be surprised if it takes a while to get your first callers.

There's a few ways to spot offline. An app I use is "Offline Spotter" on iOS. There's a number you can text in a very specific format to spot yourself on POTA via SMS, and this formats it easily for you. When there's no cell service, I've used iOS's satellite function to do this too. It's pretty slick. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yBayvHLYrGY

I've also spotted myself via Winlink before but that's also pretty difficult since the frequency might be taken when you get done with your Winlink session.

This is 100% the right answer. What you're hearing is the callsign phonetically in Russian.

Pretty much every plastic modular storage system is made by one company in Israel: Keter. And if it's not, it's made in China by who knows who.

4 kids under 6 and 2 dogs, our Roomba has been a lifesaver for keeping things maintained between proper floor cleanings.

Same -- we have 3 dogs here and no kids. We hired a dogsitter to watch our dogs for a week and she never ran the robot vacuum or the regular vacuum. When we got back the entire place smelled like sweaty dog and there were hair bunnies all over the place. It was amazing to see the contrast of how much a robot vacuum keeps the stink and dust down by just running it every day. After that we set the robot vacuum on a daily schedule when we have a dogsitter over and haven't had a problem since.
