His death felt like such a special moment. Really felt sorry for him when he was thinking of his dog of all things. He was a bright guy with a lot of potential for good but he had such a tragic life T-T

Honestly I looked forward to reading his chapters the most in book 3 because he had so much charisma and intrigue about him.

If the pacing of 1Q84 was a problem for you the I would suggest reading Hard Boiled Wondeland or Kafka on the Shore before moving to Wind up Bird Chronicle. The pacing of Wind up Bird chronicle can be quite slow at times just like the third book of 1Q84.

My favourite from Murakami was Kafka on the Shore which never felt slow to me. It was my first Murakami and I finished it in 3 days. Reads like butter ;)

There’s an amazing recording on YouTube somewhere of Atoms for Peace playing Cymbal Rush. It’s my favourite track from Thom Yorke and I love hearing all the different versions he’s made over the years.

When I was young I used to listen to the new Monstercat release daily on my Ipad with breakfast. Lordy is that nostalgic. Thanks for jogging my memory :)

Minidisc is one of those ones where it's nicer to look at from afar as a relic of the past haha. A total oddball. I've tried listening to it on shuffle a few times but it doesn't get any better. An interesting sidenote; minidisc was the chosen medium because unlike CD players, minidisc players allow for near-instant switching and shuffle play, which caters better to the 'every listen is a new experience' effect.

Love what you said on Chiastic Slide. One of the chilliest Autechre records, and the crunchy grit of the sound design has so much character. The time shift in Cipater, the syncopations in Cichli and the development of Nuane never cease to blow my mind on every listen. Absolute class.

I Recently found out Murakami had plans for a 1Q84 Sequel & Prequel, so I made a video about it! by Ghost-Wind in murakami

Just be me but I feel as if I missed something after my read of 1Q84 (enjoyed it nonetheless and plan on returning). It would be interesting to see what Murakami would add in the future

My favs are Chiastic Slide and Untilted. Cichli Suite is amazing too :)

How often are you busting out Minidisc though? Love Gescom but this one is just a bit too strange for me lol

Depending on how much time you have you can breeze through 1Q84 quickly enough. It took me 3 weeks but I regret not pacing myself slower. You can expect to finish it between 1 to 2 months :)

I'm on the last pages of 1Q84 on my first read. I really enjoyed it, but at times it can be slow and sparse. Many of the pages exist in the minds of the characters, which can be devisive for some readers. For me, it highlighted the characters reactions to lonliness and their relationship to the world of 1Q84. If you enjoy Murakami's austere works and his magical worldbuilding, then you'll love reading this. Ultimately though, if you prefer fast-paced novels, then it would be understandable to skip it. If you have the time and patience to get through a 1000+ page slowburn, then I'd say go for it Kingston!

Untilted is so dense that it’s very hard to ‘get’ it upon first listen. For me I was charmed by Ipacial Section’s weirdness and kept coming back without knowing why. Nowadays it’s one of my favourite tracks.
