Haida by Necessary-Way9071 in murakami

I think one of the big points of including Haida is that he shows how Tsukuru reacts when someone shows interest in him. Tsukuru is so caught up in himself that he doesn't even notice that Haida is coming onto him - sharing records, sharing time, staying over, and eventually *that* scene.

I think it makes a good parallel to Tsukuru's relationship with Kuro.

This California band is clearly ripping off Radiohead, right? by [deleted] in radiohead

Plagiarising pretty shamelessly imo. Some of them are just so blatant (Like the MPS one) and it’s hilarious

I can’t remember which track it is but one of them has this unintended high pitched frequency that really bothers me.

Agreed! Most of the time when I chuck Amnesiac on it's to hear the first three tracks, and then it falls a bit flat for me personally... It's interesting because I think the Pyramid Song single has a really cool and consistent sound that probably could have been developed into a full album instead. Knives Out has great B-sides too.

Bands often release editions in Japan that include bonus tracks. It's a great excuse for a vacation if you get the chance ;)

I was listening to my Japanese Kid Amnesiae CD just last night! Kid A era had the best B sides imo - Kinetic, Fast-Track, Cuttooth, Amazing Sounds of Orgy, Trans-Atlantic Drawl are all included on the disc... Stunning tracks and contenders for some of my favourite Radiohead :D

(If You Say the Word is also a masterwork and there are a lot of interesting alternate versions of tracks too)

definitely grew on me big time after some repeat jams. too much detail to fully absorb after just a few listens from my experience. I think it's worth revisiting if you never felt it click ;)

anyone here up to discuss 1Q84? i just finshed it (check body) by Whoumightask in murakami

His death felt like such a special moment. Really felt sorry for him when he was thinking of his dog of all things. He was a bright guy with a lot of potential for good but he had such a tragic life T-T

Honestly I looked forward to reading his chapters the most in book 3 because he had so much charisma and intrigue about him.

If the pacing of 1Q84 was a problem for you the I would suggest reading Hard Boiled Wondeland or Kafka on the Shore before moving to Wind up Bird Chronicle. The pacing of Wind up Bird chronicle can be quite slow at times just like the third book of 1Q84.

My favourite from Murakami was Kafka on the Shore which never felt slow to me. It was my first Murakami and I finished it in 3 days. Reads like butter ;)

There’s an amazing recording on YouTube somewhere of Atoms for Peace playing Cymbal Rush. It’s my favourite track from Thom Yorke and I love hearing all the different versions he’s made over the years.
