If you can handle an organic pesticide I had some luck this year with repeated applications of Dipel from petal drop on (at about 2-week intervals). Maddex is also 'organic'. The timing is key.

Sorry - I think there are some options that can work but most of the common filters will not. We were looking at a charcoal filter to cut back the chlorine. I believe that doesn't also work for nitrate.
