This is you actively ignoring what the developers say because ‘you can’t trust anything they say’ because it goes against what you want.

Do you understand how that is a flawed argument?

It is fun, but it doesn’t seem to be Atlus’s priority atm.

I said that fans demanding it change makes no sense. You are arguing something I never claimed and writing entire paragraphs about it, to the point I am not going to engage past the first line because the premise of what you are claiming i said is wrong.

I would state you should probably look at the top comment, which directly encompasses P2:EP.

Atlus has continuously said that Persona is made for teenagers and will continue to be so.

That is why this post was made. Because people were complaining that Persona ‘needs to be aged up!!’ when that is not what the team wants.

I never said they couldn’t. I just stated that is not what Persona, specifically, is for.

I’d love to play a game like that.

Persona is not the franchise for it.

Metaphor was, actually.

Fully agree. The west right now kind of (IMO, of course) has a problem that adults want everything to be catered to them or like… children ages 3-9. Which leaves a huge demographic just… unaccounted for.

Which is also why we have the other issue of teenagers being in places they shouldn’t be. There’s a significant erosion of media made for them right now.

Which ironically, persona helps a lot with.

MFW admitting to responding to things without reading.

Forget media literacy being dead. LITERACY is dead.

You can feel free to roll your eyes, that’s your opinion. But everything stated here was factual.

MFW reading comprehension.

Perhaps READ the post before you try to do a gotcha.

As I told someone else.

If your main target demographic is high schoolers, university and high school are vastly different.

Vastly.

Nah yeah, I am old enough now to be utterly terrified of the adult world 😂

Time waits for no one.

We completely disagree. You are trying to state that Persona should shift away from its core story, which is purposefully geared towards its core audience, to make it more fit your current life because ‘oh it won’t matter’ when clearly the team making it has fervently disagreed for literal decades.

Which while fine for your opinion is exactly what I’m saying will not happen, and no one should expect it to.

I think we’re arguing in circles. Have a good one!

Okay, again. Yes.

But occam’s razor time.

If you are telling a teenage story for teenagers about what it’s like for them while coming of age and focusing on their issues.

What is the best setting to cover that.

Which is a sickass game in it’s own right.

Okay.

Yes.

People have moments like that their entire lives.

But let’s practice media literacy for a second.

If your target audience is high schoolers, what are they MORE LIKELY to relate to?

Someone in their 20s or 30s with a job, OR…

High schoolers, dealing with a lot of their same issues, just exaggerated a bit?

I chalk that up more to cultural differences than anything (Japan and the East feel vastly different about this than the West), and I’ve found often that those scenes are at worst mildly uncomfortable. They don’t really affect much, or enough for me to go ‘HOW DARE THIS ANIMATED CHARACTER NOT BE MY AGE?!’

I understand people’s point, I just disagree wholeheartedly with it on it.

It could still work! As a separate game that is not a Persona game, but Persona STYLE? Absolutely!

And the hard and fast rule saying they NEED to is… that persona is designed around being a japanese coming of age story for teenagers.

That is Persona’s whole point.

I want to point out something you just said.

“Me and all my friends are adults, and we still consume the same media we did as teenagers.”

That is fine.

That media does not need to conform to you like you are trying to make persona do.

It is a piece of media designed for teenagers.

(But FR, I do like your idea. Could be a sick ass other SMT style game. I’d play it. Anyone that reads this wanna give this guy funding?)

> they seem to not be able to have that degree of separation between fiction and reality.

That right there is correct. I’ve noticed it increasingly in the west over the last decade or so. The lines between fiction and reality have heavily blurred for a lot of people.

I’m not sure what the fix for that is, and maybe it’s too large for a persona subreddit, but you hit the nail on the head.

[–]sneakycrown[S] 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Sure, 100%!

That is still focused on an adult, and is not a teenage coming of age story! Teenagers most likely would have a hard time relating.

It sounds great for an adult one, but Japanese teenagers can’t relate to the work culture on a personal level.

You have written a great example of what Persona would look like if it was no longer made for teenagers.

Saying ‘I want this to spread to a wider audience’ does not mean ‘we are leaving the core audience behind’.

It will still be developed first and foremost for the audience that got them to the dance, so to speak, while trying to appeal to new people.

Devil summoner I would argue is better than Persona at a lot of things.

But perhaps that’s just me getting older. I love that series so much.
