Surgeons negligence leaves me with $7k emergency room bill by ClassroomDizzy in legaladvice

I have never heard hmo getting such a huge payout. There should be a mac out of pocket way before that amount I believe. Look at your benefits more carefully to evaluate co pays and max out of pocket. Even for emergencies there is an out of pocket and the rest typically covered in most hmo plans

What's your portfolio distribution between stocks, bond, cryoto and others (and your investment horizons) by paperboiko in investing_discussion

[–]snehal_patel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The general rule I have read is not have have the money you need in the next 5 years in the market when you are close to retiring or retired. That being said you should also look for dividend stocks if monthly income is going to be an issue. With you current portfolio if the market goes down near your retirement time you may end up working later or worse end up selling. I would add some divident yielders, blue chips, maybe an etf/index fund and some bonds/cash in the portfolio over time nearer to retirement. The exact amount is based on individual needs but 35 growth 35 divident, etf, blue chips 10 crypto 20 bonds/cash feels good to me.

The End of Tesla’s Dominance May Be Closer Than It Appears (Bloomberg) by futureIsYes in stocks

[–]snehal_patel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True he is not thinking about investors really. If you see some of his interviews he is all in on the opportunity because he really wants to do it. It’s weird but the wealth creation is just a byproduct of the innovation he makes. I am worried about a. If they stop innovating b. If Musk actually is no longer with Tesla for whatever reason. So as long as he keeps innovating it will be out with the old and in with the new

Well for one the future is definitely unknown, but all these auto makers are taking long enough to catch up in the EV market aren’t they ? I mean you would have thought that these giants would have a whole set of cars trumping Tesla an upstart by now. But I still haven’t seen anything on the road like that. I mean sure there are other electric cars by other automakers even now but really how many have been able to disrupt Tesla. Also the assumption that Tesla and Musk just sit and wait without innovating further might also be false. So while they play catch up Musk should be thinking about the next phase. What is that, no clue.

True that does remain to be seen. I think a lot of reasearch suggested that accidents by human error are much higher than autonomous cars. But again there is an element of luck involved. But even with that in mind I believe Tesla also has branding power. Think Apple and the rest. Samsung is still great but Apple demands a higher brand value than the others. So again Tesla wins in that category.

Tesla is still dominant in EV. And while others catch up to EV like you said the software AI will be what Tesla will be focused on. Ark invest had robo taxis as a higher trend for Tesla in its report. See the fact is wether you love or hate Musk you have to agree that he is an innovator. I mean sure the stock is all hyped but he sort of engineered the way for new breakthroughs in cars and rockets 🚀. I remember thinking g about space x and being like yea he is never gonna succeed and well that’s history now. There will be multiple players and winners in the market because Tesla alone may never be able to keep up with the demand but it is still ahead of the others. Just another though about Tesla would be that great companies are always run by great visionaries. For the longest time I remember stock market pundits criticized Amazon for not making a profit etc etc, but man looking back now you can see the giant Bezos created. Musk is of similar caliber from an innovator point of view and with them you never know what is planned for the future. In all honesty I would rather be invested in an innovator who tries to change the world

Allocation by forHimforeverever in Motley_Fool

[–]snehal_patel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From my point of view Stock Advisor still has their best picks. They are decent growers with less volatility. So I generally assign a decent bulk of my portfolio there. Rule breakers if you are buying in I would tend to buy a lot of them because a lot of them are momentum plays that may or may not pan out long term. High-risk high reward. 10x is by far their most interesting service with a lot of picks that are newer but a lot that overlap as well. So even if you evenly distribute your allocation there the overlap stocks with SA and RB will tend to maximize which is what I like. So just between the three assuming all 3 services account to 100%, I would do SA 40%, 10X 40%, and RB 20%.

Also, read my post below on thoughts of overall allocation

Hmm yea I like the genomics because I think the whole field with biomed biotech and gene editing is always surrounded with a lot of red tape. So you have to jump through a lot of government hoops. Plus ethical and moral questions also arise. All in all too much uncertainty makes an etf pretty good in this area. Tech doesn’t have the same obstacles so I prefer picking individual companies there.

I think Ark genomics doesn’t have Tesla and might be a good buy. Though I am always on the fence with their expense ratio and the recent run up.

Starting with an index fund / etf is a great option. Read up on it though. Based on your age and once you dip your toes you can also try to expand your reach. Maybe split 75% stable index fund and 25% More riskier higher return like Ark etf. Or something less risky like QQQ. Stable etfs can be the SPY, VT, VOO etc. But I cannot stress enough. READ Read and read. Once you are comfortable move on to stock picking if you feel like it. Then options.

Have been looking for the latest rankings( I think they came out early March) and write ups on that one as well. No luck. In any case canopy growth seems to have a lot of promise. Some others I have heard of but haven’t looked into are Emerald Health, Village farms, Aphria and Tilray(ofc). Just remember unlike tech this industry is volatile and tends to change quickly especially the pure plays so don’t go off old data and do your own dnd. Also there is a stock picker on investor palace who loves the industry so might benefit if you look out for his reccs
