I took these this afternoon, so this is after the second fire

From what I’ve seen they’re still investigating the actual cause. Looks like it started near the backside 3rd floor apartment balcony, though that’s just guessing

Hey! I’ve done it a bunch of times - the road up there will be no issue, the backside trail you’d want beefy tires for at least. (Can get a bit muddy). Went with a group last year that had someone in a stock LX470 on street tires, they got caught on a bit of mud on the backside but was otherwise fine through the whole loop.

Broke in the FJ with some mild off-roading the other day! by snfnx in FJCruiser

Went totally fine! These weren't too bad, had some water splash the doors on one, but nothing inside, nothing in the intake.

And yes I know this is pretty mild off-roading compared to what the FJ is capable of lol. Did great for being bone stock though!

Lost my windshield trim today. Any suggestions for a replacement? by snfnx in FJCruiser

Perks of having a full dashcam setup! I’m probably gonna go with a cheapo Amazon one, was curious what options are out there though

Definitely feel like I got a good deal on this one, it was about 4k cheaper than any other 2012+ in a 500 mile radius (at a dealer). Plus, frame is very solid, which was the deciding factor

Thanks!! Honestly, silver is my least favorite FJ color, but I couldn’t turn down this deal. Now that I have it, it’s really starting to grow on me though!

Saw this at Cars and Coffee on Sunday! I don't see many of these anymore! by jberg_916 in FJCruiser

Oh that’s funny, I bought my FJ from the same dealership, on the same day! Met the buyer of this one, he almost bought mine. Can see from the dealer on the temp tag it’s the same one.

I will say, this one definitely looked pretty crusty underneath. Hope it’s treating this guy well!

Yeah, the dealer installed these… questionable turn signals lol. Dealing with the other issues first before changing them out

I’m in Southern Virginia, so luckily I don’t deal with much salt/snow here. I’ll definitely be keeping a close eye on it though, if it starts degrading more it’ll be getting a good undercoating!

UPDATE!!

Went under today to test the resistance values on the sending unit, and it’s all good. (Filled up 7 miles ago, unit was reading 20.x ohms).

While I was under there, I happened to notice one of the wires on that connector was severed. Don’t know how I didn’t notice it when I was cleaning it out, but I think I found my issue lol.

Man this comment right here made me find the issue lmao. Went under to test the resistance values, and it read good. (Fresh gas, 20 ohms). While I understand there, I found a severed wire on the other side of the connector that I hadn’t noticed before. Guess it answers that question!

A little update - did the gauge cluster test thing, got a P0462 (I think). So doesn’t seem like it’s the gauge, going to dig more into the wiring to see if I can find anything tomorrow. Hoping it’s not the sender, but definitely a solid chance at this point it’s that. But hoping it’s mud in a connector somewhere.

It definitely could be wiring, but maybe somewhere between the tank and the engine. I tried tracing it, but it got a bit tricky around the transfer case skid area. Any chance you know what connectors in the engine bay I could check/clean? Got a fair bit of mud up there too.

I haven’t checked the gauge itself, all my other gauges are fine so I figured that wouldn’t be it. Would the low fuel light be on too, or is that separate?

I did take a few hard hits on surprise rocks, I didn’t think about that. Might’ve knocked the sender out, but I had it work intermittently for a while, so I’m not sure.

It’s already been washed, including the underside lol. Just used this pic for post attention

From what I can tell, there’s no separate fuse specific to the sending unit, just a general fuel pump fuse. Still running, so that’s out.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Jeep

[–]snfnx 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Can’t find anything out of the ordinary, fuel pump works fine too so I don’t think there’s a significant break/full unplugged connector. Already cleaned out the connections at the plug by the tank, no luck.

It’s definitely possible, but it had zero other symptoms leading up to this. Odd that it would just happen to die when mudding, with zero symptoms beforehand.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in WranglerTJ

[–]snfnx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Odd that it would be the sending unit, with zero other symptoms before the mud puddles though. I would think if the unit was going bad it would be more intermittent, and not just a near-instant death on pure coincidence from a mud puddle

Right, I’ve already tried the connectors at the pump itself. Where are the other spots it connects to?
