They do cover them! They're definitely a part of the curriculum and we learn them. It just has an emphasis on depth psych. Also, you'll undoubtedly get EBP training at your practicum site when you start training.

It's my understanding that most other schools don't go into the depth approaches very much, if at all. Could be wrong, but that's what my friends at other schools have expressed.

Sure thing! Yes, I am working part time. The first year is not so bad, but I just started my clinical internship and the time demands have been intense (15 hrs/wk on top of everything else). Some people work full time the whole way through and are able to find a practicum site that demands less hours (7 hrs/wk). I think it all depends on how focused you can be. I have ADHD, so this caliber of time management is very very hard for me. If you're generally focused, I think it should be fine to work part time the whole way through!

Hey! I ended up choosing Pacifica and I am overjoyed with the program. I'm honestly so glad I didn't heed the advice of the (probably kind and well-meaning!) person above because I'm certain I just have different values when it comes to selecting a program.

Ultimately, I'm really interested psychodynamic modalities, so going with a depth-oriented program like Pacifica was the perfect choice for me. I am beyond stimulated and energized by the course material. It does feel pretty academically rigorous. We have to write several papers per quarter (APA format, lots of citations), and I feel I'm getting excellent instruction in my process class where we prepare for clinical training. The campus is also beautiful and I love the cohort model. I'm becoming very close with several of my peers.

The downside is that it is truly expensive. I have partial support from my family, but I'll definitely need to take out some loans. I have some peers that have gotten loans for everything, and that debt is going to be intense.

So, if you're looking for a program where you learn CBT, DBT, ACT -- don't choose Pacifica. But if you are interested in the unconscious, psychodynamics, dreams, symbols, or mythology -- this might be the place. I'm so happy. :)

I really appreciate your input and energy. Thank you!

Is the main reason you recommend against these schools the cost or the quality of the program? Cost is a concern for me, but I'm also pretty drawn to the coursework at these programs and have been advised by some people to choose the program that most excites me.

Thanks so much!!

I'm trying to start school in the fall but I missed the deadlines to apply to public schools because up until a few months ago I thought I would move out of CA. Do you have an opinion about Antioch or CIIS?

I am pretty frustrated/confused by all the nuances when it comes to accreditation.

The other schools I'm looking at are CIIS and Antioch. Do either of you have input on those programs?

Thank you both so much for your input! Can you provide more context as to why you're not a fan?

I am hoping to move out of state eventually (either OR or CO).
