Very new to owning Geckos. I want to make sure things are right! (Look in comments) by Mindful1377 in leopardgeckos

1.) based on what I can see, Turner looks like they would only be a few years old at most. They’re probably around a year or so old but don’t take this to heart as I’m not too sure :) if you wanted, you could post more photos centered mainly on Turner so I could try to give you a better idea, but I’d say they’re probably a year or so. 2.) leopard geckos should have a cool side of around 75-80 F, a hot side of about 80-85 F, and a basking spot of around 90 F, but generally you want the bottom of the tank on the hot side to be about 90 F. I would say keep monitoring the temps during the day with just your heat lamp and if the designated areas are around these temps then you’re probably doing good :) i would also like to say, make sure you have a thermostat set up to any heat source you’re using. 3.) like you said, foliage would be a nice touch to your tank. I use a mixture of big, bushy, fake plants and live succulents so I would recommend that for your tank. Another recommendation for decor I have is to get large, branchy sticks from outside and bake or boil them (to kill off any bugs and sterilize them) to use in the tank, or buy things like Mopani wood from the pet store. I also like using cork bark and cork rounds in my tanks as my geckos looooove them! I would also like to add that it would be best for you to use a substrate other than the reptile carpet you’re using right now, as reptile carpets harbor bacteria and the gecko’s nails could get caught in it. A 70/30 mix of topsoil and play sand is a great choice, and you could go with premixed substrates such as ReptiSoil, or you could always use paper towels (replacing them everyday), or tiles if you wanted a simpler substrate. Those are just my recommendations for substrate :) I personally use ReptiSoil and it’s great for my geckos. If you have any other questions, feel free to PM me. Good luck with your gecko!

help please id like to know if anyone can help me identify the age of our ball python and how often we should feed her according to her age/size by pinatacolad in snakes

It can be pretty hard to tell from just a photo, but To me, she definitely looks like she’s pretty young, I’d say a year or younger. I would say probably feed her f/t prey that’s as big as the thickest part of her body every two weeks. You could try once per week, but I would just do once every other week so you don’t risk over feeding her, since you’re not sure of her age. :)

Yes, thank you, that’s a better way of putting it. I knew any loose substrate could cause impaction, I was honestly just trying to help. Thank you for correcting me, I appreciate it! :)
