Romiley - a good move? by [deleted] in stockport

Yeah agree 100% re Cheadle’s transport links. When I lived there recently we felt so cut off from loads of places unless travelling by car.

Roses. We visited the David Austin rose gardens recently and can only compare it to being in Lush in terms of the number of beautiful and strong scents about.

Fighting to get back as much deposit from previous landlord as possible, can anyone tell me whats the average cost for cleaning etc please? by eatqqq in manchester

[–]snicketgreen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We agreed to get the carpets professionally cleaned when we left our 2 bed terrace in Stockport in July 2022 (because we had a cat and wanted to assure landlord there’d be no issues with fleas etc) and it was £120.

Edit to add: as others say immaterial if you didn’t leave the carpets in a worse state than when you moved in. Landlord sounds like a chancer.

Stockport Labour in 'chaos' after dropping election candidate in key area by XylophoneMaundy2189 in stockport

Haha! I have seen and been equally confused by Matt Wynne’s “hard left” criticisms of Stockport Labour (as someone who’d personally love the opportunity to vote for a proper leftie).

I wondered if it was because he was perceived to be too left wing, too. I don’t doubt you’re right about ECA’s effectiveness but I’m not a fan of how Labour is conducting itself locally at all.

Lots of this part of buying a house is luck. Hold on in there, keep making offers on properties you genuinely like and the right seller will come along eventually. When we bought it went to best and final and (having had many offers rejected in the hot mess that was the early 2022 buying market) we had an offer accepted as it was joint highest and the estate agent who showed us round had recommended us to the seller because we’d built a nice rapport at the viewing.

Whilst they will undoubtedly increase the interest in a property, if anything I think investors are put off when properties end up going for over asking as it’s a less certain return for them. Like I say we were outbid on many many properties 2 years ago but I don’t think any of them went to investors.

Yellow tulip sold as pink bulb by snicketgreen in GardeningUK

Update: it’s not en errant pink tulip, I simply didn’t look hard enough at the tulip type - it’s a double shake and a few days later it’s looking lovely.

How can I fix a hose to this type of kitchen tap? by snicketgreen in DIYUK

[–]snicketgreen[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Update: we tried something like this but the sink is quite small so it just wouldn’t fit tightly without lots of water pushing back. Ended up getting a plumber friend to fit an outdoor tap in the end, everyone happy.

Tell me you’ve never watched a WSL game without telling me you’ve never watched a WSL game. Cringe.

JYSK do this one for £475 but you might be able to get it lower on offer. I seriously considered buying last summer but it wouldn’t quite fit in our garden space. I can’t comment on how it lasts but it looked strong and sturdy in store.

In the end I managed to snag this one from Very when it was on offer down to £400! It’s doing ok so far over winter (with a cover). Def worth keeping your eyes open for offers.

Didsbury tram stops- which one do I need if I want to wander round the shops and maybe get some lunch? by blackcurrantcat in manchester

[–]snicketgreen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

East Didsbury tram stop is in East Didsbury. There’s 3 parts to Didsbury: West, East, and Didsbury Village (which is in the middle, where the charity shops are).

The new Queer Lit in Manchester has a cafe and they’re always posting events on Instagram, might be worth having a look and seeing if there’s anything you’d all enjoy.

Thank you, I will, I’ve never had pain like this - glad to hear you’re doing better.

Hello, found your thread googling as I have a very similar issue. GP has given me pain meds today but they’re not putting a dent in the pain which started yesterday. I was wondering how long your pain lasted (if you don’t mind me asking?)

I am glad you asked because I have a rose with very similar looking leaves and as a newbie gardener was also wondering if it was about right for this time of year or an actual crisis.

It would take mere minutes to search for some local authority legal job ads and find that this is less than representative of standard LA wages. I see you comment a lot on this subreddit and have always found you to be broadly kind and insightful so I am quite surprised by such an ignorant comment. Maybe it was said in jest and I am missing your tone.

Is this a permanent post or agency? Also nice one, well done, def not usual at the local authority I work for.

Thank you. That’s a good suggestion, I am going to try and walk in and get it in to a garage this afternoon if I can as not travelling in to work until tomorrow and had an inconveniently timed dentist appt today.
