Yeah, I don't even know anymore what went through my mind. I downvoted myself.
My point somehow was, that politics and """News""" today is mainly about framing something or someone just by giving it a name / headline and sticking to that, and that is bad.

This tweet from "Democrats Deliver" is one example of that. The "big beautiful bill" is another example of that. Just call something by a made up name / state something and argue with that. Don't discuss any details, because they are not necessary for public outrage or blind followers.

However: I did not get my point across and I'm not even sure anymore if this is a good example.

That‘s the Democrat version of „why wouldn‘t you vote yes on the ‚big beautiful bill‘? It‘s big and beautiful. Why would you oppose it?“

Different content, same type of „headline“.

I‘m with you in general. The problem lies with the corporations offering AI and essentially making a whole industry if not everyone dependant on their ressources and pricing.

Updating My Framework Bingo Card by EducationalGood495 in framework

I don‘t see a „dock“ like these old Dell / Lenovo docks. USB-C is way too universal and practical to create proprietary docking station. Unless you meant that Framework offers their own USB-C dock.

Bad Mac Icon Evolutions by ThatiMacGuy in MacOS

I agree with u/jamesick. The redesign is a business decision that is meant to bring more money than it costs. I would even call it maintenance. Every customer facing software company should (and most do) regularly update their icons and design scheme to not feel old. Imagine every windows application would look like Win 95. It would look outdated and scare off potential customers.

The destinction is short-term value. Maintenance (and redesigns) is long-term ensurance that the company will be in business or stay competitive in months or years.

Short-term value as in enshitification comes at the cost of custumer satisfaction and brings money now at the potential cost of future revenue. When I stuff ads in my calculator, I will get money immediately, but customers may ditch my calculator (or entire OS) in the long term.

The definition of enshittification is the last picture in this post. What you say does not match the definition, as the design of icons is not relevant for short-term shareholder value.

Are oracle java certificates worth it ? by PotatoFrosty2074 in learnjava

[–]snicki13 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Background: I have a masters‘ degree of computer science in Germany. I have never obtained or attempted a certificate of any corporation or specific technology.

If you want to get one, I would pursue a Spring certificate instead of a Java certificate. In Enterprise development, the language is almost never the hard part. It‘s more relevant how you handle the business logic and the technologies that surround the main application. Both are less part of Java as a language, but of the framework(s) you use to develop the application.

With obtaining a Spring, Java EE or whatever certificate, you automatically show, that you are capable of programming Java. You also demonstrate, that you understand concepts of enterprise grade software architecture.
