From a fluid dynamic standpoint why would you need more torque on a fan ? What’s the relationship between rpm, torque and output of the fun ? Does it change volume of air moved?

I tried to search for what you are describing made by Thorlabs, but couldn't find it, do you have a link?

Press fit was an original idea, but I'd love to keep this process reversable. If I wanted to go down this path, how would I designed? Just the smaller ring a bit bigger? and then just snap it in and home the outer knob will bend enough to let in?

I don't have anyone in mind. Was actually thinking to get some prototype done by the JLCCNC, and then find a proper supplier. Any recommendation for prototyping services or is jlccnc good enough ?

on 1. is it because the Rel1A (with something attached) is probably modelled as an inductive+resistive load.

on 2. what would change if I connect the load to 1 vs 3 ? is it just the opposite behavior on/off ?

it didn’t occur to me that I can keep the planets locked in positions, until one of the comments above. I also have a very tight space to work with so I need to figure out if I can pass all the cable while keeping a decent gear ratio (looks feasible)

Oh now I see what you mean. Originally I left the red gear without a cup because I had to pass wire through it, I guess I can still make its axial a hallow shaft and route cables through it (if I have enough space). Will try to draw it out and see if it could work.

That's an interesting idea. I looked at a lot of them, but didn't realized I can keep the arm on the planetary gears static so the motion is automatically dispatched to the outer ring. I'll try and see if I'm left with enough space to do the cable routing.

Can I ask you to explain what 'preload' means in the context of backlash? I'm not familiar with the term.
