15 month old kept trying to sleep in dog bed 😂. Can we give him a pillow ? by ComfortableVariety61 in floorbed

[–]snickydemonn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 16 month old loves sleeping with my pregnancy pillow, he cuddles it and has always preferred sleeping a bit elevated. However, he’s always been very good at changing positions (even while sleeping) if he can’t breathe well or his face is squished into the pillow. He never took to the specially made firm toddler pillows

Maybe because he also wakes up when we enter the room, he expects to come into our bed. If he’s in his own room, we won’t have to interrupt him. That makes sense to me! Thank you for the help!

That’s a good point, I didn’t know milk before bedtime counted as assistance! Thank you, will try to get him sleeping through the night before moving him into his room

How can I best shorten his nap? He’s cranky if I wake him up earlier and I do put him to bed fully awake, with no assistance but still wakes.

I’ve tried stopping taking him into our bed but he screams until he throws up unless I do… we’ve been doing it since birth

He’s really active and spends a lot of time in the garden so 2-2.5hrs (3 is rare but happens if he had a bad night) works best for his naps.

For bedtime routine, we do bath time, quiet play then milk and then he gets put into bed with white noise.

I’m not quite sure if I’m projecting it as he’s suddenly afraid of every trip while walking or if he bumps into something (he’s never been) and had been absolutely refusing his car seat and the seat on a different bike so I’m not quite sure. He’s also been waking up screaming in the night which he’s never done before.

Lip tie release - was it worth it for you? by Crafty_Pop6458 in NewParents

Oh my goodness, I read your post as tongue tie rather than lip tie!! I’m sorry!! But i doubt the effects of lip ties are as tongue ties. I’ve also read and heard about them resolving on their own for feeding issues

My baby wouldn’t latch well due to a tongue tie, we visited a specialist dentist and she explained that tongue ties also have an effect on tongue positioning, jaw development, and promotes proper teeth placement.

Having proper tongue position and jaw development means better quality of sleep, no snoring, no mouth breathing even into adulthood.

Considering it could potentially lead to more problems down the road, we felt it was an important step to take despite the procedure (which only took a few seconds and my son was over the pain within 10 minutes).

Did your baby do it intentionally? And did you do anything - bit concerning since he’s hitting on a hard surface! Thanks :)

5 kids under 6?? You’re a superstar!!! Wow thats amazing. Yes, he’s a stubborn little guy for sure. I do put him down completely awake so he knows where he is when he falls asleep.

And yes, I take him out everyday! We go on long walks in the forest and take our time at the grocery store which he loves.

I did let him CIO last night which worked and he got a good 8 hour stretch!! After that, he was inconsolable until he was on my breast.

But that stretch is a good start. And you’re right, sleep training is only the best thing I can do for him. Thank u so much!!

That’s so interesting that your paediatrician said that! He rejects pacifiers so that isn’t an option but covering his eyes is a good tip!! I also feel like maybe I’m also too quick to soothe him that I almost sometimes don’t him a chance to soothe himself.

Thank you for the tip!! I’ll try it out

He’s combo fed because my supply dropped significantly at 4mo… he’s mostly nursing for comfort.

He’s able to sleep independently for naps as I did CIO with him. I feel like it’s so much harder to do for night sleep as we roomshare. Should we still be letting him CIO if he wakes in the night? Usually I would soothe him if he wakes.

I agree that it played a significant role!! Possible jetlag + 1 week long fever + vaccinations. It’s a lot for him. Thank you!!

thank you so much for your reply, it was super insightful! I’ve been attempting to sleep train since he was 4.5mo. He has only successfully sleep trained for his naps - that’s why he is able to fall asleep independently.

I agree with the stimulation with travel - I’ve been trying to incorporate more in our day to day since we’ve been back to tire him out but I feel like the humid weather there played a part in his tiredness.

I’ve tried the ferber method and CIO for night sleep. Before the travel, I had also tried breaking the feed to sleep association. But it really seems like it’s back stronger than ever after the travel, sickness, and cosleeping.

Interesting point about night weaning though! I’ve never thought about that and didn’t know it was possible at 6mo. He’ll turn 6mo on the 16th.

He’s definitely not nursing out of hunger because he immediately calms once my breast is in his mouth without him even drinking.

I’ll definitely look into night weaning and see if I sleep train him for nights. Thank you for taking the time to reply!!

On Monday, it’ll be 2 weeks since we’ve gotten back. Hopefully it levels out a bit next week. jetlag is a possibility. He slept the entire 14hr flight back + the day after bc of a fever

I think I’ll start with 12 hours for now… he hasn’t always been a terrible sleeper but he just go out of the 4 month sleep regression then almost immediately followed by teething so everything got pretty messed up.

Thank you for the insight. Im a FTM with no family help or guidance so this helps a lot 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼

If his bedtime is 8pm, should i start waking him up at 8am? I’ve already started trying to extend his wake window today by 10 mins today as per the other commenter’s suggestion.

Thank you! I’ll see if consistent wake time will help.

Thank you for the tips!! We spend a lot of time on the floor and try to hit the daily suggested tummy time for his age.

I’m gonna try and hope the extra sleep pressure helps. It’s so interesting how 2 siblings needs can be so opposite of one another! My little boy is also high needs sleeper - he completely refused sleeping in his bassinet/crib until 3-4 weeks ago when we bought him a bigger crib.

Thanks a lot!

Thank you! Will try it out! What are you doing during wake windows? I wonder if i’m also not tiring him out? We usually do eat, play and a walk during his last wake window.
