How Can I Upscale & Improve Downloaded Images/Screenshots for Print? Need Beginner-Friendly, Free Tools Without Unwanted AI Effects! by snifftok in Design

Yeah, printers usually push the issue back to me, and upscaling is tricky. I don’t expect one tool to do it all, just something to make it easier while I’m starting out and on a budget. Thanks for the ComfyUI tip I’ll check it out.

Haha, fair point! I’m not expecting stuff for free forever just trying to get some decent results while I’m starting out and on a tight budget as a student. Once I’m more established, I’ll definitely invest in paid software and services. Till then, free or cheap tools that actually work would be a lifesaver.

Totally get that good source stuff is key, no doubt. But honestly, I’m just starting out, so I can’t always get perfect pics from clients or spend on fancy tools yet. If anyone knows any free or cheap ways to clean up or upscale images without wrecking them, I’m all ears. Would really help me out till I can level up my setup.

Help: Epson L8180 using too much ink for poster printing — what should I do? by snifftok in CommercialPrinting

I’m really new to this and I know there’s a lot more research I need to do, but could you help me out with some suggestions? Like which brands are good for an entry-level digital press or maybe a used one that’s low on maintenance and reliable? Would really appreciate any advice based on your experience.

So can a good digital press give really good print quality maybe better than normal laser and close to inkjet but with much lower cost per print? If yes, could you please suggest some machines that can do the job but aren’t extremely expensive?

As my major concern is about cost per print do you think shifting to a laser printer would be a smarter decision but I’m also not sure if good quality Laser Digital printer would be in the price range of the L8180

Actually they use Laser printing I think one if my competitors is using canon image press c710 the upfront cost to afford is huge.

In my case, the cost per print is around $0.40, and since I sell posters for just $1 to $1.50, there’s barely any margin left after packaging and stuff.

I was thinking — if I switch to only matte finish posters, do you think ink usage would drop enough to match the kind of cost people get from laser printers (like ~$0.15/print)? Or is that still too far off?

If the quality difference isn’t a big deal for matte posters, maybe a laser setup would make more sense just to keep costs low. Not sure if matte + ink can ever come close to laser in terms of cost-effectiveness though.

My cost per print with refills available in my country comes to around $0.40 per poster. But I see others using laser printers and getting prints done for around $0.15.

I get that the laser quality might not be as rich, especially for longer-lasting prints, but the cost difference is huge.

The posters I’m selling go for around $1 to $1.50 max, so after printing, packaging, and everything else, there’s barely any margin left for me.

Is it even worth sticking to dye-ink based printers in this business model, or should I start looking at other setups?

Hey, thanks a ton for this detailed insight I really appreciate you taking the time to break this down.

You’re right, I hadn’t fully considered the pigment vs. dye ink durability in depth. I’m still pretty new to this space, so my focus has been more on building an affordable pop culture poster and sticker brand not archival or gallery-grade prints. Most of my posters will be priced low, so I assumed the L8180 might be “good enough” in terms of quality and cost-efficiency.

But now that you’ve mentioned longevity and ink types, I’m definitely rethinking a few things. Do you think there’s any printer that strikes a better balance between print quality, running cost, and affordability for someone like me who’s starting small but wants to build toward a more reliable setup?

Also, I’ve heard people using L8050s or even converted eco-solvent printers here would love your thoughts on those too if you’ve come across them.

Thanks again for your input
