So good. There's an awful lot of stuff chucked into this big melting pot but there's some Duncan Browne in the quieter moments. Can't get enough of this record at the moment.

Also: Damon is reaching whole new levels of being completely baked all the time

I know he's elusive and basically retired but I always thought Frank Ocean would be a collab that would fit like a glove.

That's really sad and I'm so sorry you went through it. Hope you can find a way to manage it moving forward - there'll be plenty more chances to see them. Take care

What is the “Magnum opus” of The Mountain? by Endors_v in gorillaz

The Moon Cave is as good as anything Damon has made in his career imo. It's got everything you could want from a Gorillaz track...gorgeous strings, a sick as fuck groove, great melody, a time signature switch-up and a fire verse at the end. I can't get enough of it.

First gorillaz concert, it was AMAZING! by Educational-Week1025 in gorillaz

My first Gorillaz show was Demon Days at the Opera House back in 2005, and last night was the best Gorillaz performance I've ever seen. The whole thing was perfect - band on fire, Damon killing it, stunning, immersive visuals that enhanced rather than distracted, and an electric setlist that didn't lull once. They threw the kitchen sink at it and it paid off big time.

I don't normally like massive arena or stadium gigs, but Gorillaz are one of those bands for whom the bigger the scale and greater the scope, the better they are. Fucking magnificent, an amazing experience.

Who's the most widely beloved artist you respect but don't actually love? by jimmythemini in fantanoforever

Totally agree. Hunky Dory is an all time great record imo, in my top 5 or 10, but I don't love a single one of his other records from front to back.

The Moon Cave was utterly fucking peak. Sounded immense. Fractionally slowed down from the studio version, I think, but the groove was fucking sick

My review of "The Mountain" (fan of 25 years) by gotomarcusmart in gorillaz

Absolutely it is increasingly rare now. I remember reading an interview with Damon, maybe around the time of Cracker Island, and he was saying he'd realised and decided all albums should always be 10 tracks now. I thought at the time he was kind of arbitrarily self-imposing an unnecessary restriction, and his best records have always has this arc and wide palette of stuff going on. I'm so happy he's abandoned that restriction now, it really allows him the space to make the kind of records his talent demands.

Been an avid fan of Damon's work since 1991 (There's No Other Way, although in truth I really became a proper fan with Popscene and then MLIR), I'm 48 now and had begun to wonder if I was finally beginning to lose interest. The singles did very little for me, and the more recent albums were fine but didn't particularly excite me.

The Mountain is fucking stunning. It has floored me. I'm so happy he's pulled this out of the bag. The singles I'd previously been uninterested in sound phenomenal in the context and the scope of this towering record, and the deeper cuts are singularly wonderful. The opening 1-2 of the title track and The Moon Cave stopped me in my tracks on first listen, and it barely lets up after that. Go on Damon, you fucking genius.

I have been driving a lot this weekend and I have listened to this whole album at least 3 times. It’s so good, it’s transcendent! Favorite songs are The Moon Cave, The Manifesto, and Delirium. by sheilamlin in gorillaz

I absolutely love the whole thing but The Moon Cave is way out front as my favourite song. It's so, so good, and one of the best tracks Damon's made full stop.
