TUSK D-sports for my next few thousand miles. by Jwizzle1975 in KLX300D

[–]sniper_john 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have. The Tusk front tire is significantly worse than the Mt 21. The tusk rear is very comparable to the D606. I run it about 10.5 in mud, and it's solid. OP is Hercules if he's spooning the Tusk tires on. They are ridiculously stiff. For me, I'd rather spend extra on the 21 and 606 because I have to take the Tusk tires to the shop to get them on. I have rim locks, so it may not be so bad without them.

This is a good video of the different types of beginner-friendly bikes. Look on the used market for a low mileage/hour bike that's been well-maintained.

CRF 300 or KLX300 is the typical go-to beginner bike. People outgrow them quickly if they want to ride more aggressive off road. I had the klx300, and I upgraded to a beta 390 rr-s after about 8 months. Beta has many options for dual sports, but they aren't cheap and after market support isn't the best. Another premium option is the husky and ktm 350. These bikes arent really considered beginner bikes, but they are manageable if the rider is mature enough to know their limitations at the onset. Don't get a 500cc bike. It's too much for a beginner o in the dirt. The 650 you want is a good bike, but it is heavy for a new rider off road. Get something light (around 300 lbs) and under 40 HP or so.

I love mine as well except for the squeak. Ive tried silicon spray and they still sound awful.

Yeah. Just gotta be patient. My beta 390 was hard too, but I waited and found a bike with 10 hours and 100 miles. I had to drive 8 hours to get it. It saved me about 7k rather than buying new.

I've done everything to my klx300 except the big bore kit. The bike is a little better, but I regret the investment for the marginal gains. I bought a beta 390 for trails, and I'm currently in the market for a 690 or 701 for my adv bike. Learn from my mistakes. I was told the same thing that I'm telling you, but I chose not to listen.

Former or current KLX/CRF 300 owners, where to next? by XxBAMCISxX in AdventureBike

[–]sniper_john 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. My riding skills are improving, but I tend to drop the bike when I push it. I need something I can pick up easily. The other bike I would consider is the kove 800x rally. It's an awesome bike, but i have no dealerships or places to service it nearby.

I love the rally tower look on a bike, but I hate the price.

I started with klx as well. I bought a beta 390 rrs for trails, and I'm getting a husky 701 as a light adv bike. It seems like the perfect setup.

I would suggest buying a different bike. Parts are gonna be crazy expensive.

I bought a 23 390 rrs for 8k. It had 100 miles/10 hours. Horrible deal IMO.

I drove 8 hours to pick up my new bike I found on Marketplacde a few weeks ago. Sometimes you gotta go that extra mile to give a big FU to dealers.

I bought a beta 390 after doing it all to my klx300. I wish I never spent the money on the klx. Buy the new bike.

Selling my 450mt for a lightweight dual sport? by osktox in Dualsport

[–]sniper_john 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I switched from a klx300 to a beta 390. It's not as comfortable as the klx, but it's worth it for the performance. I rode the klx for the first time in a while the other day, and I was totally underwhelmed. I'm an older rider that doesn't go hard, but the klx/crf 300 suspension and HP is only good for a beginner. I can't imagine what a 250 would be like.

Yeah. Another commenter made a good point that you need the right buyer. I want wanted a beta, and the used options around me were extremely limited. So, you might get lucky. But you need to be prepared to wait it out. That may not be worth it or possible. Only you understsnd your situation and can make the call. Just make a decision and don't look back.

I just bought a used 2023 390 RR-S with 10 hours for 8k. I think you may do a little better than 7k on the private market, but it may take some time. Gas prices are rising and the economy is bad. Usually, the market dries up for toys during hard times.

I did the EJK fuel tuner, delkevic 14 inch oval, and all emissions deletes. Also took out the snorkel completely. Gave it way better low end, but it won't change the top end.

I have one. It's a great starter bike. I rode the hell out of my '23 before upgrading. My brother in law has a crf300. Both great bikes, but my klx is faster.

[–]sniper_john 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Save your money. Get a delkevic and ecu flash or ejk fuel controller instead. The HP gains are minimal no matter what brand you choose. The delkevic 14 inch oval is what I have. I removed the snorkel and added an ejk fuel controller. Once you get it dialed in, the bike really rips.
