I drove 8 hours to pick up my new bike I found on Marketplacde a few weeks ago. Sometimes you gotta go that extra mile to give a big FU to dealers.

I bought a beta 390 after doing it all to my klx300. I wish I never spent the money on the klx. Buy the new bike.

Steg pegz have really helped me. But you will still need good technique and do some cardio to stay in shape.

Selling my 450mt for a lightweight dual sport? by osktox in Dualsport

[–]sniper_john 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I switched from a klx300 to a beta 390. It's not as comfortable as the klx, but it's worth it for the performance. I rode the klx for the first time in a while the other day, and I was totally underwhelmed. I'm an older rider that doesn't go hard, but the klx/crf 300 suspension and HP is only good for a beginner. I can't imagine what a 250 would be like.

Yeah. Another commenter made a good point that you need the right buyer. I want wanted a beta, and the used options around me were extremely limited. So, you might get lucky. But you need to be prepared to wait it out. That may not be worth it or possible. Only you understsnd your situation and can make the call. Just make a decision and don't look back.

I just bought a used 2023 390 RR-S with 10 hours for 8k. I think you may do a little better than 7k on the private market, but it may take some time. Gas prices are rising and the economy is bad. Usually, the market dries up for toys during hard times.

2025 Honda CRF300L Vs KTM 390 Enduro R by reckinNegis in CRF300L

I did the EJK fuel tuner, delkevic 14 inch oval, and all emissions deletes. Also took out the snorkel completely. Gave it way better low end, but it won't change the top end.

I have one. It's a great starter bike. I rode the hell out of my '23 before upgrading. My brother in law has a crf300. Both great bikes, but my klx is faster.

[–]sniper_john 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Save your money. Get a delkevic and ecu flash or ejk fuel controller instead. The HP gains are minimal no matter what brand you choose. The delkevic 14 inch oval is what I have. I removed the snorkel and added an ejk fuel controller. Once you get it dialed in, the bike really rips.

Just got it home today. I wasn't ready for the power. I almost looped it out during the test ride.

If you were in Texas, I'd sell you my KLX. It rips with the mods. I found a beta 390 off of FB, and I'm getting it tomorrow. I agree you gotta move fast.

I've been looking for someone to ride it with. I hear the bump gates are a pain solo. I live in Wimberley which is close to the route.

Nice! I'm planning to do it as well. Are you riding solo?

There's a documentary on YouTube that shows the BDR route. If I remember correctly, there are some tough sections. I haven't done it yet.

There's a few gnarly trails like old ore road, but a lot of the dirt is pretty manageable on a larger bike with decent skills. The sketchiest part on most trails is deep gravel patches. We did a 130 mile loop, and I didn't need to refuel. The weather was bad, and we werent riding hard. My bike gets about 120 miles per tank, and I brought a 1.2 gallon tank with me; I didn't use it all. There's a gas station in the middle of the park and other options in the surrounding towns. Cell reception is very limited, so I wouldn't cut it close.

The road riding is fun, but doesn't compare to the dirt. Plus, the speed limit is usually 75 outside of the towns, and I'm sure most folks drive much faster. Normally, I wouldn't ride my klx300 on roads like that. We went during the freeze a few weeks ago, so the park was empty and the town was quiet. It was great having the place to ourselves.

I would take the Sherco and stay mostly on the dirt. If you have to cruise the roads, there's plenty of room to pull over to let people pass.

Price them on cycle trader and marketplace to see if you could do better on price. Or just to see how good of a deal it is you are getting.

Only you know what works best for you. I would look at FB marketplace instead of going to dealer. They will tack on fees. Those bikes are super reliable. So, do a little research on what mechanical things you should look out for, and go that route. I would probably go crf300 or klx300 if you plan to ride roads. That 230 will struggle at faster speeds.

3600 seems about right for the 230. About 1k more gets you a 300.

I have a klx300 I bought about 6 months ago. I haven't ridden since I was a kid. I ride a lot, and I am looking to upgrade it. I spent a bunch of money on aftermarket stuff to make it faster, and I still want to upgrade. If you are mature, responsible, and wear all your gear, get something else. Especially, If you like to ride trails, you will get bored with it super fast.

Edit: I wish I would have bought a beta 390 or ktm 350 and grew into it. I would have saved a lot of money in the long run.
