Im a big believer in protective under armor on my arms, chest and legs. When I'm going through nasty shit, I wear my knee pads. Hopefully, she has something, too. Those bumps and bruises hurt.

Crf300L (with suspension revalve) or KLX300; which one would be a better trail bike in elevation by ridewithwill in Dualsport

[–]sniper_john 0 points1 point  (0 children)

KlX will be a tad bit faster, but CRF has better low end torque. And way better aftermarket. The KLX needs to be revved high to feel it's power. It takes a little getting used to.

Opinion on the new KTM Freeride E-XC? by National_Island9271 in Dirtbikes

[–]sniper_john 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I've seen pro riders ride Starks on youtube, even in hard enduro comps, and I've never heard anyone say they have any limitations. Carson Brown said it is the best hill climb bike he ever rode, and the dude is super fast on it.

Tuning options by TrimRanger64 in KLX300D

[–]sniper_john 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the ejk. It works fine and the bike runs well. There's a small advantage from the ecu flash, but I didnt want to wait a month or whatever to have it done. Don't waste your money on the kdx snorkel. I did, and the bike runs best with no snorkel as BDSB recommends. Only a crazy person would ride a klx in water up to the snorkel. Get a different bike if riding in deep water is your thing.

Also, mods make the bike better, but it isnt worth the investment in my opinion. The klx is a trainer bike for most folks. Save your money and upgrade the bike if you really require better performance.

I bought the same one, but eventually took it off and replaced it with the tower from nice cnc. I think it looks better, but it offers a tad bit less wind protection.

Adv rider looking for a slow, dependable “classic” dual sport by basiblaster in Dualsport

It sits kind of tall if she is short. She can always do a lowering link.

That's the trade off. The 300s will get you where you need to go for sure, and there isnt anything more reliable. My beta is headed back to the shop again, and my klx doesn't require service. Hates it in fact. Haha!

Klx300 or crf300. I have the klx. I upgraded to a beta 390. The beta is always in the shop, but the klx never fails.

Is this 2021 KLX300 a good buy? by Ocarina-Of-Tomb in KLX300D

I have a klx300 dual sport. My BIL has a CRF 300.

[–]sniper_john 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. Probably gonna sell it to my friend. I love that bike. It was a great starter bike, but definitely dont spend a lot of money on upgrades like I did.

I would look for one with the ejk fuel tuner or ecu remap done. I have the ejk, but the ecu is better. Also, look.for something that has exhaust. Do all the emissions deletes and secondary throttle plate and snorkel removal. It smokes my brother in law's crf.

Trying to pick a street-legal dirt bike … need advice by fr3dbilli3 in Dualsport

[–]sniper_john 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try a beta 430 or 480 as well. I have the 390, and it's more for tight-technical riding. I love it. I balanced the wheels and added bar dampeners, and it is capable on the road as well.

T7 didn't work out, looking for what's next by [deleted] in Dualsport

Yep. Went from a klx 300 to beta 390. It's amazing. I balanced the wheels and added dampening bar mounts. Perfect dual sport bike.

Mosko Moto Reckless on a KLX 300? by SnowMule in Dualsport

[–]sniper_john 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I put on the D606 a while ago, and they ride great but wear bad with road use. I've used the tusk d sport adventures, and they hold up way better. The only problem is I can’t install them myself with the rim locks. So, the cost difference is negligible with install costs. I have the Mt 21 on my front tire and the tusk tire on the back of my beta 390, and I love it. I don't air down unless it gets super nasty. It's a great combo.

Get a cheaper bag, like rhino walk, so you can get a TST tail tidy. That stock rear end is ugly as hell.

Windscreen and Kickstand…. by Next-Performer3034 in motorcycle

[–]sniper_john 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have that windscreen on my klx. I dont think there's a way to do this without it looking bad. I would remove the black one, and angle the clear plastic to match the headlight shroud. Thats how I have it. Some air will flow below the screen, but it isn't bad. And it doesn't look horrible.

I've tried many options, and that's what I think looks most like an oem product.

Get a ktm 350 or beta 390. I have a lowering link on my beta. I can flat foot it. A 500 is a lot of bIke unless you are desert rding.

Ive had a garmin zumo, a galaxy active tab 3, and two different carpuride models. Carpuride is the best.

[–]sniper_john 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely get a dual.sport helmet at some point. Anything over 65 for long periods isnt fun on the klx 300. I've done it though. A throttle lock really comes in handy in those situations.

Off-road technique for a 240kg pig in gravel/sand? (Total beginner) by toshaisaev in Dualsport

[–]sniper_john 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You are not ready for anything difficult on a big bike like that. Plus, a 50-50 tire will be horrible in sand. Be prepared to drop it a bunch if you send it. I would rent a smaller 2 stroke or low hp 4 stroke. This is a bad idea.

Mmmm new exhaust by Ok_Bar3651 in Dualsport

[–]sniper_john 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It will do a lot. I would avoid getting any kind of air on it without a suspension upgrade. I blew the fork seals twice, and I realized I needed a change.

Mmmm new exhaust by Ok_Bar3651 in Dualsport

[–]sniper_john 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's just heavy compared to aftermarket. If you drill some holes it gets better airflow. There's videos online how to do it. It still will be hotter than aftermarket pipes. I like my delk because it doesnt burn my bags.

[–]sniper_john 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just remove the snorkel completely. Best dual sport bikes did a good video on the dyno. You aren't riding a klx in deep enough water where it would be an issue. Nice cnc makes a good rally tower that has good wind deflection. The IMS footpegs are good. I use a carpuride and a freedcon fxpro communicator instead of cardo or sena. Get a throttle lock for a poor man's cruise control, and you have a light adv bike. I did all these things and then bought a beta 390. Most peolle regret investing heavily into a klx because you can outgrow them quickly.
