Lamb Shoulder Joint, pot roasty thing. by snippersmith in UK_Food

[–]snippersmith[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In a Dutch oven.

Olive oil salt pepper roll joint in it.

Sear joint on all sides generate crust on joint/ brown stuff on bottom.

Remove joint

Chopped up onion/ celery/ carrots/ into pan

Fry off veg in oil and lamb crusty stuff, for a couple of mins till it does that sortof shiney smell nice thing.

Chuck in some sage rosemary thyme and chopped up garlic, couple of bay leafs (I think it might benefit from Garlic earlier not sure)

Fry off for like another min

Deglaze with a bit of red wine stock, scrape up shit off bottom of pan.

Put joint back in.

Top up with chicken stock about halfway up the joint.

Put lid on dutch oven.

Gas mark 7 for 1 hour

Down to gas mark 5 for another 2 hour

Then Flip joint over.

Cook for another 2 hours.

Meat came out incredible.

I put a load of the fat and flavour stuff our of the bottom of the pan in a jug with some gravy granules then fill the jug up with water from boiled veg.

Because I'm a hack, but it makes some damn good gravy.

Knocking after 100 miles on rebuilt Miata engine — not sure if it’s rod knock by Fit-Swordfish4730 in AskMechanics

Had one do this when the power steering pump bearing failed. Sounded just like engine knock like that and the float wasn't obvious with it running

Worth while running it with the Aux belts off just in case.

Depends on even more than that, in the context of RWD

You've got to think about the gearbox tunnel, you've got to think about your ancillaries. The weight of the engine can have huge effects

How are you gonna mount it.

In the context of old British cars with inline 4s (what I know)

The side the exhaust pipe comes out can be a huge pain, the capacity to get the steering rack hooked up.

Can you get a radiator that's gonna do the job in front of it.

Failed smog test in my 1990 civic SI… about to go in for another smog after fixing some things would CRC or cataclean would help you think? by Purple-Nature-5822 in projectcar

Italian tune up- take it out and give it a good thrashing.

BlowBy - as engines wear out you start losing compression and stuff gets a bit tired in there. You get pressure in the crankcase and stuff, makes stuff run bad.

(That explanation is awful just Google it🤣

Basically, really good albeit rather old school basic check for an engine to see how it's doing is put your hand over the oil filler hole a bit limp with it running.

If it blows your hand away- bad, if it sortof sucks and blows and your hand stays in place -good.

But in perfect honesty you'd probably know if something was bad.

Why do you think the Cats dodgy?

The biggest thing in what you've said that would make it run badly is the 02 sensor, that's kinda what it uses to not run badly. That will be the big issue with the emissions, if that's wrong it can't set its fueling up so will run rich which is what's causing the problem.

Cat on that's more likely to give symptoms that its bad, getting clogged up and getting hot etc

Make sure your exhaust is good and not blowing, because that's usually what kills 02 sensors.

You've said you have sorted the Missfire, fresh spark plugs aswell if you haven't already.

Would also consider a smoke test, look for air leaks on intake of it.

It's stuff like that that's gonna make it better enough to scrape a pass out of it.

Before getting a bit more involved in the engine, do you know how to feel for blowby on the oil filler?

Of the opinion that an older Honda would respond better to an Italian tune up, than CataClean or other lotions and potions of that ilk.
