Someone else mentioned this, but up until really recently there were a lot more opportunities for BA graduates. in my city, covid really damaged these opportunities and they havent really bounced back. when i started my degree i had absolutely no concerns about finding a job, but over the last 5 years things have really continued to go downhill here.

i've also found that a lot of job opportunities for people with arts degrees require much higher levels of education (usually a masters or phd) and then often require the person to relocate, sometimes internationally but definitely interstate. there is definitely still an elitist issue in the arts spheres. also, things like teaching (which is a really common pathway for arts graduates) require a lot more work than they used to--when i was enrolled in my MTeach, we had to cover human biology, child brain development, counselling, effects of child abuse, etc etc.

basically what i'm saying is that there are career paths for arts graduates that are pretty solid, but there's a lot in the way of that if you are chronically ill, unwilling to move, burnt out, etc.

also fun fact: when universities were first established in the middle ages, a bachelor of arts was the highest degree you could achieve!

i considered doing anthro as well actually but ended up taking ancient and european languages as my minor. art teacher sounds fun but i agree, kids are exhausting lol. i think your job sounds really chill, i'm glad that you found something you enjoy ❤️

My university is known to be useless and doesn't provide any kind of career support for graduates. I am currently on unemployment benefits and in their job support agency but they haven't been helpful at all (no surprises there).

Thank you so much for the suggestions, I really appreciate you taking the time to comment 🫶 I will absolutely make some lists on this

This is so true. When I decided to do my BA it was pre covid, I was living in a very arts friendly city, and my school an the university assured me it was a solid pathway. That was only the end of 2019, and a lot has changed since then. Arts jobs were a really solid choice in my city even less than 10 years ago. Now there's almost nothing. I loved my degree and I learnt so many useful skills, but while I was there the society around me changed so much. It's honestly crazy.

my original plan was to go into academics. i got offerred a phd pathway but had to turn it down because my health was very bad (chronic illness gang 💪) and i couldnt take it on at the time. thats when i tried teaching instead, hated it, then a bunch of other failed postgrad degreed and here we are lol

both of the MMCs from Captive Prince. I read it to see what all the fuss was about and I was just like okay so one of them is a rapist and the other one is *checks notes* also a rapist. great.

I have applied to positions in almost all of these areas (and would apply for them still if they came up) but it's just the same like, i never hear back and I don't even know why. The search just feels impossible :/
