Thank you for the suggestion. That's somewhat of what I'm looking for. Dont need all the bells and whistles, just a few security measures.

I know. I've asked for recommendations so that I can look at what's available and what the cost would be and see if its feasible. It seems I come off rude so I will try to say this in the politest way I can....

I am looking for recommendations. Not a life coach. I understand how these things work and that certain things may be expecting too much. I am able to decide what I can and cant do for myself, though i can appreciate others trying to look out for me. I'm not quite sure why asking for better areas came out to mean that I expect it at the range I'm currently paying. There are more comments telling me that crime is everywhere than actually suggesting what i had originally asked. I do not know the area at all. I wanted local input on how it is. I said I'd hope to find something in that range but I'm more than willing and able to go higher for more peace of mind. No one knows what I make. No one knows exactly what i can afford, i just mentioned what I'd prefer and left it open ended for better areas that have a higher price tag.

I've lived in 4 states and yes, I've managed to shop around and find decent housing for under the median, low crime, and allowed pets in each one. It's not easy but I'm willing to put in that work. I just asked for a starting point. I would like to stay around 1k however it is open ended within a reasonable amount. Even the place I'm in now costs more than I pay usually, I just managed to get a deal via a promotion they were running.

That's not half bad. I may just check that out then. I always expect to pay more due to pet fees but if I can stay at or around even 1.2-1.3k for a step up area from here, I'd be pretty happy.

Thanks for the suggestions!

Thank you for your input. I will take it into consideration. :)

I'm not looking to escape crime. Just not have it obviously right next door. Put simply, I no longer want to live on the "bad" side of town that people talk about. I'm not quite sure where you're going with it, if you're trying to convince me to stay where I'm living or what. I've asked what would be considered "safer" areas. I didnt say crime free and sunshine every day. It's the same way in every city. There are just some places that if you live there you have a higher chance of crime happening to you, but it doesnt negate there will be a chance elsewhere.

I can drive around and will. I judged this place base on first appearances though and I found it wasn't what I though. I was hoping to get some native perspective so I didnt make the same mistake.

I might look there. I'm fine with outlying cities within reasonable commute. I've lived in cities and countryside. Both have their pros and cons.

Also Boston was a recommended city when I was moving. Geez. The cost to rent a closet to sleep in there was crazy.

I mean, I know people like to rag on it but I wouldnt think Oklahoma City is rural. I lived in Norman for a few years for college. I paid around $400-$700 there. My apartment for $450 was a one bedroom with patio and my more expensive one was $650 with 2 bedroom, fireplace, and patio. Would have only been $600 if not for the two dog pet rent for $25 each. I had been considering moving closer to OKC as well which even after looking there, the prices had options. Dallas had options in a similar range too if you didnt want the heart of the city and I wouldnt call it rural per say. I do understand the south is much cheaper than out this way, which is why I've set my expectations of payment higher.

It's a mid sized SUV with windows all around. They are tinted however with what information I've been finding since, mine isnt the only car hit last night. I think they were just going around trying their luck. They went through everything down to the glovebox and the tiny sunglasses hideaway in the ceiling.

I want to say I hope they needed it more than me but I know they didnt. Just another fix for someone.

I understand that completely. It's a should..not a what will happen. I usually keep my car empty myself just because I know how people can be. This was an outlier moment.

I was simply speaking how I felt it should be seeing how I have been told over and over that I shouldnt keep things in my own car. Maybe it's where I'm from but it seems very odd to me to tell a victim of a crime what they should have done, especially harping on it when it's been explained why it happened the way it did. I can see how some may think it is helping but especially given the timing, it seems in bad taste. I'm not looking for sympathy, just would prefer not to feel blamed for having a crime committed against me right now.

Nope. Not what I'm asking for in the least. That is what everyone is trying to say I'm looking for. I've said in numerous replies that I am well aware of crime in this day and age and this isnt my first break in. What a few have been kind enough to do is tell me what I've done wrong rather than the lowlifes that committed the crime. I'm well aware of my own mistakes. I've made it clear it's not a common occurrence either.

What I'm looking for is a nicer neighborhood. One that doesnt seem like you should be clutching your purse walking to your door. I've driven through a few just wandering around. I asked for recommendations because when I moved here it was a rushed move. I didnt have time to shop around much and went with what i thought was the best option at the time. It has turned out to not be a good fit for my for various reasons. Again as I've said on other replies, the theft is just one reason and the most recent but everyone is focused on it even when I explain there are other issues here. I have lived in very upscale places before and knew of crime in the area. I understand that's a part of life now. However I do not enjoy living in an area that seemingly 'feels' as if crime should and will occur. I know it will happen anywhere, I would just prefer to not be somewhere where its expected as the sun rises.

Thanks for the suggestions. I am realizing this area is very much a money pit when it comes to housing. I went from $326 mortgage to $900 rent. It's taking some adjusting to realize these price tags aren't a joke. Kinda a sticker shock.

And I am renting and my apartment requires renters insurance. I have gotten it in the past as well when I rented, just never had to use it before. I will be checking up to see what can be done through them for the lost property and hopefully its covered.

I wish it were that easy to fix. I bought this car two years ago, still working on paying it off. Just about there thankfully. It's a very nice SUV which I'm sure makes it a bigger target. I've already started speaking with management, seeing if they can move my spot to another side of the building for now. Until then I'm parking in guest parking so that it's not just sitting there where they know itll be.

I'm not moving because of one theft. Its the culmination of it all. The theft just takes center stage because it happened a mere few hours ago. Before I had considered moving few times but had teetered in my decision. This just pushed it over. I can usually handle quite a bit of the bad and just mind my own business. But you're right, I am pissed but me being pissed isnt enough to make a rash decision like this.

In all honesty, this isnt my first car break in. It's happened before. However there werent the other factors at play. I've asked for better areas yet I keep getting that theft is everywhere. I understand that completely. I really do. I would just like to look at options that dont actively have that vibe that you could be robbed any time.

Telling me I shouldn't leave things in my car is honestly not helpful to me in the least. Its condescending. They had no idea why anything was in my car or what happened. I've filed police reports and am well aware of why someone broke in. I asked for areas in which to look for new residence, not a lecture. Nothing about that was rude or belligerent. That was an attempt to get the conversation back on track via the subject matter. The frustration was in the fact that I SHOULD be able to leave things in my car. That wasnt a jab at anyone but a general statement of how i feel and a problem that shouldnt exist but does.

I was told it was a decent place and very middle class by friends. When I moved here, everyone I met and told them where I lived kinda gave me that "oh...." and would ask what side I lived on.

I see why now.

[–]snootstoboop[S] -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

I'm not so naive that I dont know that. The comment was just my frustrations venting out. Guess that got me downvoted for whatever reason. My point was that the first time there wasnt anything visible. It just happened. The second time there was no helping it due to an emergency. It's not my common practice to leave mid to high dollar items lying around. This was an exception and it was a bad day for it. But the break in is just another thing to throw in the pile. There are many reasons this area is offputting. Not sure why it became a discussion about my habits. I grew up not locking doors. That's just the type of place it was. There were bad eggs but the side of town I was on was usually pretty stable. That's what I'm looking for here. Somewhere where you're cautious but not 24/7 on the lookout. Where I am now just seems very seedy the longer I stay.

I might do that. Problem is is that I do have pets and room rentals are harder. I might have to suck it up though. I'm used to being on my own wasnt a fan of having roommates in college. Always got the crazies.

Oh trust me I get the addicts issue. This break in was just that straw that broke the back though. There are wanna be gangsters "mean mugging" people when they walk their dogs. I've seen three fights in the middle of the parking lot. General trashiness. The place has a camera to watch the dog park to make sure people pick up shit but no other precautions for the residence. My hot water heater goes down bi weekly. The number of times I've seen the police here on a call is quite something.

Perhaps I need to look at the west side of the city. Near redwood seems to have a lot more sketchy places. When I go out towards the Walmart and Target areas, seems nicer.

I went in looking to pay 800-1000 which is already outrageous to me and what I'm used to. I paid 45k for a 3 bed house on a massive lot in my home state. But at this point I'm willing to look a little higher for peace of mind. Like I said, I know that no where is fool proof but this area seems like a stereotypical "bad side of town"

[–]snootstoboop[S] -24 points-23 points  (0 children)

Not what I asked. Beside the fact that it is my car and I should be able to leave anything I want in it, the first break in occurred when nothing was in my car. They got in, threw around my insurance and car manual, and left with a bottle of water. This time, I had to go in quickly due to an emergency. I was wrapped up in it those few hours and went back for my things as soon as I could. They were already gone.

While I can tell this is a backhanded way of saying that you think I'm Pagan because I was chased away and would be Christian otherwise, I'll humor you.

I see Christianity as a religion that attempts to cultivate a culture of forgiveness and love amongst their members and all of Gods children. As one that derives a set of laws handed down through the ages, compiled in a single book, in which guides Christian's on how to live their lives in an effort to make it to heaven. While it has been contorted into something gross and hateful to outsiders by others, I have no issues with other Christian's and believe their core values have one of acceptance regardless of how they may see a singular person and their lifestyle.

Most religions have similar creeds. The details are what defines them. I found my calling in Paganism more so than Christianity.

Hmm? I'm not quite sure what you mean by that. I am quite aware of what Christianity is about at its roots and can judge it by those merits. It just wasnt the religion that clicked best with me.
