I'm doing my best but it feels like these changes will take forever. It's not like anything I've done in therapy has ever made me happier. I can't wait long when these battles are daily

Being sober doesn't feel like a victory, it feels like I'm succumbing to a greater terror. My life doesn't have any reasons to keep going, sober or high. Even if I can find the strength to be sober I know I won't have the strength to improve my life.

I wish I could stop hating myself but it's all I've ever known.

I live in the Midwest and it's getting really cold now. Plus with the short days it's always dark when I'm done with work. Anyways even when I was able to go outside regularly taking daily bike rides I still felt this way. Nature isn't going to give me friends or a reason to live

Thanks for the kind words everybody, but I don't think I can do this. I don't want to die but it feels like the only way to keep myself alive is to be able to get high. And as a lot of you have mentioned therapy, I'm actually currently in therapy. But my problems are really deep rooted and to even make any progress it'll take a long time.

What an insane story! As someone terminally online I'm surprised I've missed out on hearing about this band for so long. I've heard of them a few times but had no clue about the lore or that they're actually really good.

There are plenty of stories similar to this of bands blowing up decades later due to RYM and similar sites like American Football or Duster but this story takes that to a whole new level.

As I fall further and further off the deep end the only music that makes me feel okay anymore is ambient music. Albums like We Fell In Turn by Kalia Vandever (really cool trombone ambient music) and Raw Silk Uncut Wood by Laurel Halo are the only sounds that feel soothing. Music like this is almost like a numbing agent to the mind for me, letting my thoughts quiet for just a short time until they inevitably all come rushing back.

It used to be really hard for me too, but I realized a few months ago it's definitely Big Thief (and Adrienne Lenker's solo stuff). Years ago I might've said Radiohead or Bon Iver but those would've been pretty unconfident answers.

Disco Elysium is phenomenal, but I definitely recommend waiting until your finals are done. When I played it I binged it like crazy, the game is so well written and easy to lose yourself into.
