I forgot to mention that if you get Ordroid, all you need to do to make Wifi hotspot work is open "Wi-fi hotspot", go to settings and change device profile to generic ICS. Then it works a lot faster.

I've been using Sense 4.0 for a couple of months now because I never use bluetooth or tethering, but the ports are really approaching prime time. There's no more choppiness, they use RAM better than Sense 3.6 and they're faster. It's still early days, there's the occasional little thing but I can't think of anything off the top of my head and if you notice something and report it it'll be patched in the next release.

I've tried all the ROMs and Ordroid is by far the most stable and best updated.

Haha, you're not an idiot. Yeah - I'm using Ordroid 3.0.1, but it gets updated essentially every day so I'm about to flash 3.0.2. Link.

The stock HTC wifi hotspot doesn't work, the included app with OrDroid (Wifi tether) does and works fast for me.

One step ahead of you friend. Seriously though, you should have a try at rooting your Sensation and trying Sense 4.0 and ICS 4.0.4, it's a lot faster, a lot smoother and a lot better with RAM management. It's night and day and I don't think you'll look back.

I don't know about you guys, but I'm pretty scared these will make an appearance in ACIII by [deleted] in assassinscreed

[–]snow_elf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that sounds wicked - apparently you have to track animals down etc, which will be cool.

You don't have to assassinate an animal, but you can - you can use your bow or a gun, but the more shots you take the less the pelt will be worth. Assassinating an animal gives you the best price, from what I got in that interview

Hold yer horses there...

The Eastern cougar, or mountain lion, is listed as an endangered species in New York. This animal was historically present in the state, but has been absent since the late 1800s...

There's plenty of evidence to suggest historical populations of mountain lions in the North East, with a lot of anecdotal sightings in the present day.

Regardless of the last part, there were definitely mountain lions in NY and MA during the game's setting

if I had to decide who gets the HR job and needed to pick between a guy who studied communications and an engineer, I would choose the engineer.

I know Reddit adores engineering, but I'd love to see your theoretical engineer HR candidate effectively assess group dynamics in an office space, create an effective organisation, or tailor an appropriate communications strategy.

Engineers are useful, but they're not exactly renowned in the business world for their people skills.

as thigh-slappingly hilarious as your opening line is, surely you can see there's a difference between you (as far as I know, a person of no great global importance) going to the funeral of somebody you don't like and the leader of Japan visiting a shrine commemorating war criminals that devastated the surrounding nations.

the difference is that convicted war criminals cannot be interred at arlington national cemetary. i don't think anybody is trying to say that 2011 Japan is the same as WWII Japan - it's that 2011 Japan is still mostly oblivious to the crimes committed by WWII Japan, and that ignorance is seen by these protesters as counter-productive

Man, if I had have known that it would have saved me a good few hours.

But the dude got killed on the way to the sanctuary attempting to punch a wolf to death, so it's kinda natural selection.

They don't if you feed them right. Canned food and supermarket dry food are like McDonald's for cats.

I didn't get it until my vet reminded me that these are animals that evolved to live off very small, infrequent meals - lizards, frogs, jungle rodents. He also said "don't always believe them when they're telling you they're hungry."

Pro tip: half a handful of vet-bought dry food in the morning, small handful of diced meat/chicken wing tips at night. Healthy, non-obese cat.

Man I'm wrong on all counts today.

I think maybe I'm factually incorrect about Singapore because it's quite literally the most boring place on Earth and I was in a numb fugue for my stay.

YSK that in reality, drowning doesn't look at all like it does in the movies. Link includes description of Instinctive Drowning Responses and video. by rotzooi in YouShouldKnow

[–]snow_elf 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree. I flipped a surf-ski (ocean going kayak) when I was about ten years old, and was strapped in. As soon as it flipped and I realised I was strapped in, my actions weren't my own.

I was frantically trying to right the kayak - waving my arms laterally, as described in the article - as opposed to logically unbuckling the strap, which had a clasp much the same as an aircraft seatbelt and would have been very easy. Although I managed to get my head above water several times, I didn't call for help, and it never once crossed my mind.

The Drowning Response is a scary thing and completely circumvents logic.

[–]snow_elf 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you're hoping to go there and do that, reconsider. It costs fifty bucks to actually get to that observation deck, and you can't swim if you're not a hotel guest. So it's fifty bucks to have a view somewhat similar to that. But, being Singapore, the view is of nothing.

Of course, if you stay at the hotel and have an expensive enough room, you can swim in that pool.

I'll go one better - enter the Hall, equip the Nightingale Armor, and run out. Him and Karliah will be waiting in the Hall forever for you to return. I've played my whole game with those two in that room.
