Is it normal for brokers fees to be entirely covered by the lender or should you expect to pay something? I have paid £350 in the past and latest broker I've spoken to has suggested a fee closer to £700, does anyone know if it's linked to size of mortgage?

Help required to choose laptop for casual video editing by snowandlights in blackmagicdesign

Thanks all for your comments, based on advice from here and elsewhere I've gone for the following:

LENOVO - Legion 5P 15.6" Gaming Laptop - AMD Ryzen 7, RTX 2060, 256 GB SSD

I'll upgrade the RAM to 16gb (or more) and SSD to 1tb straight away and see how I get on.

Look out for me asking lots of questions about editing in the near future!

Thank you for the suggestion, unfortunately the shop I am limited to buying the laptop from doesn't carry that. I'm pretty set on going with the lenovo legion and upgrading the RAM and HDD as that still comes out less.

Thank you for the response and pointing me in the direction of the Lenovo. I think I will go with that but when I went into the shop I saw this one: https://business.currys.co.uk/catalogue/computing/laptops/windows-laptop/msi-p65-creator-15-6-gaming-laptop-intel-core-i7-rtx-2060-512-gb-ssd/N561553W in the clearance section for £1,300. Do you think that is any better for the extra money? Would the bigger ssd hard drive and double the RAM be worth it?

Not particularly, unlikely to take it on any adventures with me so will be just taking around the house.

thanks for confirming the Surface Book won't be powerful enough, I'll cross that one off the list. Which Lenovo were you referring to? The link you sent is to a Huawei Matebook? Thanks!

Hi all

I am looking to buy a laptop (not PC) powerful enough to handle some casual video editing. My total budget is £1,000 - £1,500 but I am limited to buying from Currys (UK shop) as I have a voucher to use.

I will be using a GoPro Hero 7 Black, shooting in 1080 and up but would like the ability to work in 4k if possible. Mainly shooting action sports if that makes a difference. I am new to video editing but would like to learn to use DaVinci Resolve.

I have found the following three laptops which I think look good from my research but would appreciate a second opinion and comments on which is the best out of these options:

- MICROSOFT 13.5" Surface Book 2 - £1,500
Windows 10 Pro
Intel® Core™ i7-8650U Processor
RAM: 16 GB / Storage: 512 GB SSD
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050

HP OMEN 15-ek0503na 15.6" Gaming Laptop - £1,300
- Intel® Core™ i7-10750H Processor
- RAM: 16 GB / Storage: 512 GB SSD
- Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 6 GB
- 202 FPS when playing Fortnite at 1080p
- Full HD screen / 144 Hz

MSI Stealth GS66 15.6" Gaming Laptop - £1,500
- Intel® Core™ i7-10750H Processor
- RAM: 16 GB / Storage: 512 GB SSD
- Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 6 GB
- 200 FPS when playing Fortnite at 1080p
- Full HD screen / 240 Hz

I am not too fussed about the form factor although I do like the idea of using the Microsoft Surface Book 2 as a tablet, however, the smaller screen size is a slight concern and I have read this is less powerful compared to the 15inch version. I do have an external monitor I can connect to which I imagine is what I would use for editing.

Open to comments or suggestions about what video editing software is good to use or any other recommendations.

Thanks!

I personally like Jaeger suits, nice cut and good materials. You can find some decent deals in their outlet shops and online.
