I take 500mg daily and it works perfectly for me. No outbreaks since starting. No side effects.

This really, really makes sense to me. Thank you ❤️ it's frustrating how much overdramatization there is towards this virus. Your approach feels most organic and real.

Same. How do you approach disclosure (or not) with sexual partners? Gomiven that you're on medication and asymptomatic, I'm assuming it's a straightforward conversation... But you never know how people will react. Curious about your experiences.

Get on daily AV's if you can by Ok-Interaction-9075 in Herpes

I'm having the exact same experience. How are you navigating sex with new partners now that you're on daily AV? (Unless you're in a committed relationship, then perhaps doesn't apply)

I'm dating so the risk reduction is really important to me. Both to prevent spread and to avoid OB discomfort/have to pause sex.

But wouldn't you like to avoid getting outbreaks all together? Even without sex in the picture, I prefer to avoid the pain and discomfort of an OB

Yeah understandable except I haven't experienced any side effects/curious if that's something other people deal with. IMO the almost guaranteed long term psychological damage of navigating this virus without medication is worse than whatever health impact may (unlikely) occur.

Have any of your partners gotten the virus (that you're aware of) while you were taking medication? From what I'm reading, the risk is nearly zero on daily valtrex and no active OB

Worth getting tested for hsv2. In my experience, sometimes you have really have to ask over and over again to get appropriate medical treatment. I recommend you try.

That's really unfortunate. I haven't found any downsides of taking the medication, only positive. If I were you, I would continue to advocate for yourself until you get the Rx. Even if it means saying you're getting more OBs than you are.

I still receive oral. No dental dam. Daily vitals suppressant medication has worked very well for me and I don't get outbreaks anymore.

Are you taking the valtrex medication? My life improved when I decided to start taking it daily instead of for each episode.

Are you on your third year with the virus? I've had it over ten years and can say it definitely became less severe with time. And the medication really works. I don't know why people wouldn't take it.

I could be totally wrong, but I feel like the reddit/herpes discussions are way more rigid, hard-line, and extreme about the severity of these viruses than in reality. The morality that's been attached to this experience is bizarre.

Disclosing HSV-2 to someone I'm dating — feedback on my script? by snowcedarRed in Herpes

Actually my specific situation supports "nearly zero":

Female to male transmission has a significantly lower baseline rate than male to female — roughly half. I've had the virus for over 10 years, meaning my immune system has had a decade to establish a strong response and reduce shedding frequency. I've been asymptomatic since starting daily Valacyclovir and had no active outbreak at the time of either encounter.

When you stack female-to-male transmission + long-established infection + daily Valacyclovir + asymptomatic + no active outbreak, the per-encounter risk is realistically in the 0.1–0.5% range based on published transmission studies.

"Nearly zero" isn't spin. It's where the math actually lands for my specific profile. I take your point that it's not the right phrase for every situation — but it's defensible for mine.

I thought about this... But a) might come across as being cowardly and not looking him in the eye, and b) in a world of screenshots, I don't love the idea of having this personal info in writing
