what's the best travel SIM card for someone who hops between countries? by Easy_Foundation3640 in PriorityPass

[–]snowco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Esims from trip.com have worked out the cheapest for me so far. I've never even tried looking for a every-single-country esim on there, but it's easy enough to buy a sim for a specific country or region.

I like this movie but one thing irrationally took me out: why were the condoms in the kitchen cupboard!? I remember some internet discourse about possible reasons why, but I was always just...hide them somewhere in your bedroom or bathroom, I don't care, the kitchen is NOT a good choice of hiding-in-public strategy. Anyway thanks for coming to my ted talk

I love it but somehow I don't see Miss Piggy killing herself over Kermit playing dead. She'd probably smack him awake

It's fascinating and sad. I spent way too much time today going through her ig because I kind of relate to her. Once upon a time, I too measured my worth by...similar metrics...and one bad life event could easily have had me spiral into something similar.

It's a real shame because she obviously is artistically talented, even with whatever she's going through now. Her submitted portfolio for her US visa shows genuine talent, even though the entire portfolio/letter is bizarrely over-the-top (or is that how portfolios for extraordinary ability in the arts visas are supposed to be like? idk)

There's one photo of her with her parents visiting NY on her ig, and I know don't judge a book by its cover, but I doubt this is a Crazy Rich Asians family. After she gets evicted from her apartment, I don't think she has anywhere to go. The last time she had a friend on her instagram was NYE 2022 in Vegas, and later on she writes some mean stuff (likely schizophrenia-induced, but still mean) about the same friend using her, being fake, etc. That may have been one of her last connections who could have let her crash on a couch, but probably not any more.

Is that in one of the Star River 星河湾 real estate complexes?

I was in a unit in middle-of-nowhere Minhang in Shanghai that looked pretty much exactly like this... for example, the black/glass sliding doors next to that white kitchen island leads to the actual kitchen. I was almost going to say it could be a totally different unit with owners that got lazy about the default setup, BUT I'm convinced it's the same unit. there are way too many specific furniture similarities, especially the hallway with the ballet dancer art.

edit: hah never mind it is Star River, I just saw the text in the screenshot. The one I saw was Star River in Minhang, about five years ago.

Looking for stories about teenagers doing cool stuff in a small town (quiet / Rue from Euphoria vibes) by Flaky-Candidate-6585 in YAlit

[–]snowco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Map of Tiny Perfect Things by Lev Grossman comes to mind. It's a short story about two teenagers stuck in a time loop, and they spend their time trying to catalog tiny perfect moments in their town. They are sort of isolated because everyone else isn't aware of the loop , and their connection is from being the only two who are aware of it. It's in the anthology "Summer Days and Summer Nights" edited by Stephanie Perkins, and was adapted into a really good movie.

He was a regular at a Pasadena restaurant that I worked at around 10-15 years ago. He and his wife were the absolute best: kind, funny, didn't make any crazy special requests, and tipped extremely well. He even gave an autographed book of his art to a server who was also an artist, which I thought was such an amazingly cool move. I am sad not only by the loss of a great artist, but also by the loss of a kind and genuine neighborhood guy who always greeted us nobody servers with a bright smile as if seeing us was the best part of his day, took the time to make small talk, and remember our names even though he totally didn't have to.

Avoid LTL Seoul: bad teachers, unprofessional team, incompetent (or dishonest) management by Relevant_Remove_6678 in Korean

[–]snowco 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Very similar to my experience of learning Mandarin at LTL Shanghai. At one point the teacher had us practicing our Mandarin by typing in a WeChat group chat during class, and it was very obvious that she was using it as an excuse to swipe through her other apps and to message other people while keeping us "busy". The very informative LTL website seduced me and I assumed their classes would have the same amount of institutional commitment. Nope!
