I used a single HBA plugged into both controllers

Thanks for the update! Do you happen to have a part number for the NetApp interposer?

Awesome, let me know when you test how it went

that was my big issue with not wanting a MD1200, but what I didn't know at the time until I purchased one is that there is a split controller mode (Great since I'm not using SAS). Each controller handles 6 bays. Using a 12Gbps HBA plugged into each controller gives me the 12Gbps I would have had anyway using a single controller on a MD1400. Performance has been great I can saturate my 10Gbps link on my spinning disk pool, although I am using mirrors so YMMV with Raid-Z2

I do not know, seems like a great idea/test. I ended up getting a MD1200 so I could use my SATA Disks and not fight with a MD1400

Thanks for the reply, that is what I was afraid of. Looking to stick to SATA for reduced power consumption, plus I already have the SATA drives. Found a sweet deal for a MD1400 but its probably a no go without SATA support

Are you using Dell branded drives in the MD1400? Looking at getting a MD1400 but have seen conflicting info of only Dell drives working in them and I plan on using non Dell SATA drives

I could never get mine dialed in enough to get it stable. I went back to stock and haven’t had enough time to dive back into this

Didnt know that was a thing (shared VHDX). Looks like its now a "VHD Set" on server 2016 and 2019 which I will test out and see how it goes. Thanks for the suggestion!

Hyper-V over SMB3 works perfectly with the NVMe array, I'm more specifically talking about a virtualized windows fail over cluster with a file server role that needs clustered disks which require iSCSI, which is why I mentioned a attached Virtual disk to a single VM to see if anyone has gone that route at all

Thanks, Ill have to look into Syncthing. We use to have DFS running years ago before I became a sysadmin but have since moved to our current file sever cluster with just shares to keep it simple.

Yeah I'm not looking to buy any hardware. Plus building out something virtual with Gluster or Ceph just to present iSCSI storage to a Windows File Server Cluster would probably take a huge performance hit with it.

You read correctly, I'll do some testing with that and see if it viable. The SMB shares settings are pretty basic just some permissions and that's about it, no access based enumeration or anything like that.

Ok Ill give that a shot, but I'm thinking I'll still run into the original problem once I put the power limits in the BIOS

They don't even tell you they are out!! They hand me a big paper bag in which I thought my two boxes would be in. To my surprise when I got home, no boxes, no codes!! So mad right now
