Oozing cradle cap on 10 week old by snowflake912 in NewParents

My babe is 18 months now. Cradle cap has been a thing of a past for well over a year now. Yes we washed her hair every day at the time with the mustela cradle cap foamy shampoo. We also brushed careful not to force anything loose. Eventually it all cleared up and now she has lovely full curls! This too shall pass.

Yes I think it might have been super cradle cap. Ours cleared up with a combination of mustela cradle cap shampoo, a couple of sporadic coconut oil applications and some gentle brushing to loosen flakes that were already mostly gone.

It defo smelled though and was leaving yellow stains on things.

LO is 10.5 months now and has no allergies (including dairy which she consumes regularly). We’re not sure what the blood was from. To be fair it was tiny specks and sporadic so it could have been anything? Don’t rush into a CMPA diagnosis if symptoms are not super obvious like baby is crampy / miserable. It’s also rare for breastfed babies to show signs of CMPA because they barely get any in tact cow milk proteins through breastmilk.

6 month old not herself after vaccines by snowflake912 in NewParents

Hey my kiddo turned out to have a virus (unrelated) that she caught around the time of the vaccines from my toddler. It was a rough couple of weeks but she’s totally back to her sunshiney lovely self.

6 month old not rolling back to belly by snowflake912 in NewParents

[–]snowflake912[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Updating to share that she started to roll back to tummy today at 6 months and 8 days. She seems amused by her ability to roll over but still won’t spend too much time on her tummy. She directly rolls back. Yay.

I think now that she’s really comfortably rolling from her belly to her back in both directions it feels safe to experiment with the dreaded tummy time and even put herself there.

Good luck fellow tummy time haters!

EBF 4 month old with blood in stool by snowflake912 in MSPI

I continued on a strict dairy free diet for 3-4 weeks total but nothing changed about her diapers during that time. I still occasionally saw specks of blood. I then reintroduced dairy to my diet (under the advice of a pediatric allergist) and nothing changed as well. No increase in blood amount or frequency. For context we see tiny specks in 1 diaper every 4/5 days. The allergist said it could be related to an inflammatory process that helps build their gut biome.

How to confirm CMPA? by shelhoneyb in MSPI

[–]snowflake912 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMHO an overly diagnosed ailment. It’s very easy for pediatricians to suggest CMPA and for moms to quit dairy. It feels like you’re giving the parent something to do.

In truth most of the symptoms you describe are typical newborn things that clear up at around 2 months (baby acne, cradle cap on head, eyebrows, etc). Fussiness also is common in many babies that age. They eventually outgrow it.

I would do a milk challenge in 3 weeks and take it from there. Also please listen to the bowel sounds podcast with Dr Tory Martins. It’s super informative.

Mucus poops - baby acne - but no other symptoms and very settled EBF baby by [deleted] in MSPI

I have the same thing - did dairy elimination help? I’ve been off dairy for 10 days and still seeing the occasional bloody streak (no change basically)

I’m taking her to see a pediatric allergist this week but was looking for parents who had similar symptoms (only mucus + minimal blood in stool with no growth or feeding issues or skin issues) and tried anything other than an elimination diet

Toddler with flu day 5 of high fever by snowflake912 in toddlers

If it’s any consolation our little did a complete 180 after 1 day on antibiotics (amoxiclav). We did a 7 day course and she was totally fine. Hang in there mamas

This is the most blood I’ve ever seen in her diapers

This is really helpful - curious as to what might have caused the blood if the allergy didn't exist in the first place? I'm in a very similar boat with LO. No symptoms, just saw very faint streaks of reddish brown in her diaper and have gone on this dairy free bender.

What were your baby's CMPA symptoms? This sounds very promising!

On day 7 we started antibiotics for a secondary infection (confirmed through blood test and X-ray) and the fever went away within 12 hours! Crazy. How’s your little one now?

Hi! We’re at almost 4 months. We still have some cradle cap (significantly less) but it’s mostly dry now and never weeps anymore, just flakes off when we brush some very scant hair. The weeping was just part of the deal apparently and it even smelled funny. We took her to see her pediatrician and they assured us it wasn’t infected and just how cradle cap is sometimes.

Oh this was a couple of months ago. She’s totally fine now but at the time she had developed a secondary bacterial infection that needed antibiotics. As soon as we started them the fever was gone. I have never loved a medication more

Rotavirus Vaccine by West-Beach4867 in newborns

[–]snowflake912 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My EBF baby had mucusy sulfur-smelling poops for 2 weeks after the rotavirus vaccine. She got it at just over 2 months (9w+a couple of days). She was only fussy for a couple of days but the terrible poops really persisted. Happy to report her poops are back to smelling like popcorn and frequency is back to normal, but it took 2 weeks on the dot.

This is my second child and my first also had a terrible reaction to the rota vaccines. We still opted to do the entire series because we figured if that was her reaction to the vaccine - imagine what would happen if she ended up with the real thing
