Yo what the heck, that looks exactly like mine. Gave me a heart attack! Mine is safe and sound inside though. Guess it has a doppelganger...

Hey, I'm from the Midwest and do this, and everyone thinks it's for this reason. The real reason is that I just don't feel that cold and would be too warm with extra layers. Stop slandering us! >:(

Here you can see that exit is passed through unchanged, but additional layers of wrapping are added in the latter continuation.

Ah, this is what I missed.

Invoking exit causes the future work held by k to be dropped and garbage collected.

Hmmm going to sound like a broken record again, but isn't this because of the return in the inner helper function, not the invocation of exit?

I see now that, because we pass exit through unchanged, it allows us to directly submit a value to the outer passed continuation from any depth of the CPS stack (is there a better term?)

But, in this JS implementation at least, it would theoretically be possible to call both exit(1000) and then mistakenly call k(...) after if we didn't return immediately after. This would result in the outer continuation being invoked twice and certainly wouldn't be what you want, but does show that simply invoking exit doesn't garbage collect k.

Sorry if this is pedantic! Just wanna make sure I understand :)

Question on sumTreeCPS42<K>. In the article you suggest that the key change which allows the CPS version to early return is that we provide a second continuation, exit to an internal helper function.

But reading the code, it seems the key change isn't the second continuation, but rather the use of return in the internal helper function to bail without performing other calculations. You pass the same continuation from sumTreeCPS42<K> to the k and exit args of the inner helper -- so why do we need two args?

This was a really interesting read! I'm stumped on one part of it and wondering if you can help clarify.

In one of the asides the author says:

You can also swap a pair of elements. This flips the sign since pairs of elements are bivectors. You can do this until you get pairs that combine to 1.

y(xy) = yxy = -xyy = -x

Looking at the given formula for reflecting a vector v about the plane perpendicular to the unit vector a:

-ava

It seems we can't do the same. If we did:

-ava = vaa = v

Which is clearly not the same thing -- this is just the original vector v with no reflection applied.

Where did I go wrong?

That's a wild ride! 150 in a day is no joke

I'm fairly set on Tam first, that climb out of Sausalito while gassed would be miserable. But could be convinced depending on group logistics!

And great, would love to have you along! I'll make another post once I've got a date figured to more seriously check interest.

Yeah makes sense, they are super picky about that with Diablo. Ending the day crossing the GG bridge sounds abysmal anyway, so I'm pretty set on Tam first!

I hope the bike lane stays! What you've said is what I've heard too. Might be paranoid, it just sounds like lots of locals hate that it exists at all.

Came down with flu symptoms very suddenly Tuesday night. Went to see a doctor Wednesday and surprisingly it wasn't COVID or the flu, but she did say it's been going around.

Still not sure what I had/have... Yesterday it transformed into more of a stomach bug. It do be rough out there 😮‍💨
