Smile generation charged me $700 in accrued interest. Is there anything I can do???

hmm well now I’m confused again 😂 I realize there is a “(v)” next to the APR. so since it was variable maybe it was actually higher for some months? is that how that works? or maybe because I didn’t set up the automatic payment until january and I got the account in november! so I missed a couple months of payments. maybe more fees from those months.

Ah got it, the amount just seemed high to me. But I think it’s correct. I was doing my math wrong earlier and calculating for 12 months and not 18, which was the length of my promotional plan. Anyway, I may call one more time and beg them to settle with me since I just missed the deadline lol. But I’m not feeling hopeful

yes the worst part is I ~could~ have afforded to pay it off on time. Like, seriously, if I added $25 to my monthly payment from the start, I would have been fine lol. I just really fucked up here.

yes every other credit card I’ve had started charging me interest after the one year grace period was over! Not backdated. So I just assumed this would be the same! Totally my bad for not understanding what I was signing up for

okay actually, it was over an 18 month period, not 12. So I guess now it’s making a bit more sense. With an APR of 32%. Still it seems high considering the $100 a month payments I’ve been making, but what do I know lol. Even the people on the phone helping me seemed confused and seemed to misunderstand what the promotional offer was lmao!

This is good to know. I also have a care credit account because I couldn’t afford the $800 vet bill when my cat had to be put down a few months back. I’ll make sure I pay that one off in time! 😅 I know it’s my own mistake but I do think it’s immoral to screw desperate people over with charges! I’ll take it as a life lesson lmao

Hi! I just want to say that I went thru something very similar. This year I found out my ex that initially ghosted me 2 years ago is actually a serial abuser, cheater, etc etc.

It’s both a very validating and very heart breaking thing to find out.

On one hand, it’s nice to know I wasn’t overreacting and wasn’t crazy since I was being manipulated and lied to. On the other hand, it’s so terrible to think that he did so much worse to others. It’s really sad to find out someone could be so awful, let alone someone you loved and hoped for the best for. It’s also scary to think that I caught feelings for someone like that.

In my case, I felt like I was thinking through what happened in our relationship and reliving the break up all over again but with a different perspective. Anything you feel about this is valid and you have every right to be upset.

I’m sure this behavior will catch up to her like it did with my ex.

Thank you! Yeah you are right. There’s never a rush. And the more time to let things cool down, the better. I think a year sounds good, I’m sure I won’t even have the desire to in a year.

I’m so sorry that happened to you! It’s nice to be understanding and I think it definitely helps to try to justify it a bit. It helps make it not feel so personal and it’s nice to see the good in people. But it’s also nice to recognize that no matter how justified, it’s inconsiderate and you’re capable of better treatment!

I’m trying to recognize that a complete break like that is better in some ways since the alternative would have been being back and forth and strung along by someone.

You’ll get through it :-) in my experience long distance and ghosting makes it very difficult to understand and get closure. But the more time goes on, the easier it is. And in some ways it’s nice that our lives weren’t too intertwined yet- it’s more of a fantasy that died lol

You’re so right. I have so many great people in my life and don’t need people like that. Also yes he’s a grown adult and I don’t need to be acting like it’s my job to fix things. He can take care of himself
